Loving how they had these sharks coming out of the walls

Well, I can't believe it is finally here! Tomorrow we leave for WDW and Photo Magic 2013. I look forward to seeing some old friends, meeting some news ones, and lot's of great photo opportunities.

Speaking of photos, these pumpkin characters are some of my favorite subjects during Halloween. Combined with the special lighting from MNSSHP, it's a must take photo for me. I'm sure I will come back with a few more of these guys after the trip.

See you when we get back from WDW in a week!

Disneyland HalloweenTime 2009...the new fireworks show is truly spooktacular! A very different visual this year made for a more difficult shoot, but it was an amazing show. An ominous Oogie Boogie peers through the smoke.

Halloween Time begins tomorrow at Disneyland!

This is a re-edit and re-post of a photo that hit explore a few years ago. I've learned a lot about post processing in those few years and I also learned just how far I can push the camera which captured this photo. It's been in my camera bag since 2006!

Here is the original

I also have made this photo available in print on the blog

Is it me or does this little guy seem alive :D

Ghost Galaxy is the HalloweenTime makeover of SPace Mountain at Disneyland. Imagineers have completely re=themed the attraction to feature a haunting by a evil space-ghost that terrorizes riders throughout the journey.

This is the launch sequence, just before entering the pitch-blackness of the ride and meeting the Ghost for the first time...eerie green lighting sets this scene apart from the normal launch sequence.

Ryan Pastorino has written a nice article for Disney Photography Blog about Ghost Galaxy featuring some of our photos we recently captured of the spooky HalloweenTime makeover.

Catch it here:

It's so weird to think about it (especially since it's still 90 degrees outside), but the first Halloween party at the Magic Kingdom is on Tuesday! Thanks for looking!

Full view - it's really hard to get a good picture showing this entire area due to being so narrow in this hallway.

During a little meetup with Matt and Mark Straite, who were at Disneyland to get some closing-time photos, we shot Haunted Mansion Holiday...Matt posted his photo today.

He was using a fisheye, and I went vertical with a closer crop...

Night photography at Disney Parks can be challenging, particularly when there are crowds or when security CMs are sweeping people out at closing time. Time is a factor, (especially for us poor Canon shooters who often require bracketed exposures) A bracket can run a couple of minutes, which doesn't seem like much time, until the security CM tells you to move along, for which you reply, "OK..my camera is running a long exposure, it will be done in 30 seconds..."

Awkwardly you stand there behind your tripod wondering why the 30 second exposure seems to be taking 5 minutes as the security CM keeps edging closer and closer....

Surprisingly, some of the security CMs know what you are up to and may reply, "Running a bracket for some HDR photography?"

"Yes I am!" You respond hoping to gain some time for one more exposure....sometimes you do, sometimes you don't...and sometimes you get a guy that talks shop with you and tells the other CMs you are OK and they let you take your time...sometimes...OK maybe once....

Which is why time is of the essence because there are more things to consider when shooting a night scene at Disney then just composition and exposure. You should really look at the scene and consider what might require some extra attention.

This scene for example, features a Xmas countdown clock with rapidly moving hands...in your long exposures the hands will disappear! There are other night scenes at Disneyland with moving element's, such as Astro Orbiter, Small World, Monorails, and various ride vehicles...

If you wish to include the moving element's in your shot as something more than a blur, it will require that you compensate for the moving elements with a separate exposure at a faster shutter speed, which may also mean that you will have to compensate for low light by raising your ISO. This separate image can be masked-into your basic scene later in post processing as I have done here with the hands of the clock...be prepared to deal with some extra noise reduction on your high ISO add-ins...

Really loved seeing all the great Halloween decorations at Disneyland...including the Ray Bradbury tree. Named after his book "The Halloween Tree", this wonderful tree was added to Disneyland in 2007.

Hope your Halloween is overflowing with treats! Thanks for looking!

So I did get this little guy - he was 20% off so he couldn't stay there alone :D

I have been so busy the past couple of weeks, I realized I haven't posted a Halloween-themed shot.

Happy last Witchy Wednesday of October - it's almost Halloween!!

After shopping a local boutique we stopped to see grandma and she had all her darling decorations out. This little vignette is a pumpkin that my mom had since I was little and it's wearing my dads hat decorated for Fall when he wore it last time at the Fall Festival at his church and then the bucket that was used for his funeral - A very special vignette. <3

I captured this same scene at the WDW Haunted Mansion in August (www.flickr.com/photos/eddisonesteban/14885420978/) and I have to say that the Disneyland version is much, much darker! This capture has the Haunted Mansion Holiday overlay in it.
