It was very important to me that my real-life Friends could pick up and use this object. But using so many bricks, it's pretty heavy. So, why doesn't the handle snap off when people lift the comb? Opening up the handle... you can see that there's a stack of plates in there. This runs from the body of the comb, down to the tip of the handle, with a snug fit. (Also see following pic.) I am pleased to report that there have been no "accidents" yet! At BrickFair Virginia, even children played with this during public hours.

Cheapy version of the butterfly comb that Rose wears in Titanic. It pretty much eats my head. One day I'll own the actual replica.... one day...
Hair is a loose rope braid put up into a bun and secured with spin pins. The comb is purely decorative. Sorry my hair looks dirty, it needs a wash and is lightly oiled with Argan oil.
Gion Corner was established at Yasaka Kaikan Hall in 1962. Its one-hour show is popular with international tourists for its quick introduction to seven different traditional art forms: chadō (the Japanese tea ceremony), kado (flower arrangement), koto (Japanese Harp) music, gagaku (ancient court music), kyogen (traditionally comic drama), kyomai (Kyoto style geisha/maiko dance) geisha-style women dances, and bunraku puppet drama. On the first floor, there is a Maiko Gallery exhibiting interesting items associated with maiko.
First Row:
1: January - Auspicioius Motifs (this shows plums and bamboo but maiko change the design each year)
2: Feburary - Plum Blossoms
3: March - Daffodils
4: April - Cherry Blossoms
5: May - Wisteria
6: June - Willow
7: July - Uchiwa (Round Fans)
Second Row:
8: August - Pampas Grass
9: September - Bell Flowers
10: October - Chrysanthemums
11: November: Changing Maple Leaves
12: December: New Year's Mochi (Rice Cakes) with Lucky Items and Maneki (Sign Boards That Kabuki Actors Have Their Names Written On Outside of the Theatre)
Miyako Odori: Special Cherry Blossoms and Butterflies
I just started to dye silk. I thought it would be really hard and tedious but it turned out to be pretty fun.
I dyed this beautiful blue in this kanzashi and a navy blue that I'm using in another kanzashi set. I can't wait to get more colors.
I just put this kanzashi up in my etsy shop. I hope it finds a good home.
Hooray for dark purple! Color variation is quite evident here. I almost edited it out in Photoshop, but.. this is the reality. A small gap near the handle could have been avoided (see other pics), but was allowed in favor of strength. I wanted this model to be tough enough for my "real-life Friends" to play with. So, a hidden stack of plates runs from the first round tine, through the entire length of the handle. Now it can be happily swung around at BrickFair!
An unknown American soldier in Summer Service Uniform mocking Hitler’s moustache with a hair comb. Depicted in his uniform, a Combat Infantryman Badge, a Good Conduct Medal and an unknown medal. The Good Conduct Medal is one of the oldest military awards in the United States Armed Forces. Although the U.S. Navy's variant of the Good Conduct Medal was established in 1869, the Army version wasn’t scheduled until 1941, and the Air Force on, until 1963. The medal is awarded to any active-duty enlisted member of the United States military who completes three consecutive years of "honorable and faithful service, which means having any non-judicial punishment, disciplinary infractions, or court martial offenses. During wartime, the Good Conduct Medal may be awarded for one year of faithful service, or even awarded posthumously.

Oh My Goodness! I want ALL of these gorgeous pieces of jewelry for my very own!
Check out this amazing antique print of 35 premier examples of European master-craftsman made wearable art objects for the Victorian woman of fashion! It's is one of the most beautifully detailed engravings I've ever seen!
You'll moan with delight when you see this gorgeous antique illustration from Germany in person!
The beautiful details in this gorgeous, sharp as a tack artisan-crafted study of Victorian Jewelry from before the turn of the 20th century in this fine illustration are simply amazing.
They don't make things like this anymore. Printing of this quality and detail is a long lost art-form too I'm afraid.
"1887 Artisan Crafted Decorative Jewelry" is in glorious condition captured in classic basic black (of course.)
This Fabulous German illustration is Perfect.
Smooth and flat with crisp edges and corners and almost no tanning at all... remarkable condition for 122 year old paper!
Your 1887 antique illustration measures a big 12" x 9 1/2" with a clean center fold as issued, blank on the reverse.
What I find most funny about this is element is that there isn't even space for hair to fit between the tines. LOL!

I was imagining an early 1960s bridesmaid when creating this pretty pink hair comb. Have these lovelies made for your best gals or pair one with a sweet sundress to celebrate an ordinary day!

(Also see last pic.) A few more bricks removed... This close-up view shows where the plate core inside the handle merges with the plates inside the comb. When designing, I had to leave off a pair of 2x2 brackets, to allow the core to emerge. This is what causes a tiny rectangular gap on the final object. But I think it's worth it for the extra strength.
I was really struggling with the Macro Monday theme "Ethereal".
Dreamy, soft focus, elf-like pictures are just not me, although I expect to see some here that I really like.
If ethereal beauty means extremely delicate and refined, I think of the jewelry of René Lalique.
This hairpin (1902-03) is made of horn, gold and diamonds and is part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Although the object is not large, the foto is a close-up, not a macro. Trying to get any closer attracted the attention of two security guards. LOL, not true, the object is behind glass.
