Thanks to Wayne for the help to ID of this bird : maybe a Sparrowhawk
You can click on the photo to watch it with a bigger resolution.
I was doing photos of gulls fishing in a parc (parc des Chanteraines) near Paris (France) when suddenly I saw all the gulls flying away and only 2 courageous gulls decided to rush on a ... hawk ! Why? maybe because on a little isle on the lake they were few juveniles not able to fly.
Sorry weather was really bad (it was raining) so the sky is really overcast and sooo white. This is a medium crop of the original photo because I was far from the hawk.
So why did I select this photo : not for the sky nor the IQ but because it's the second times in few weeks that I can see an Hawk in or near Paris, and I could see a third (in Montesson) but I hadnt my camera. So as Aron said, a lot of hawks are now living near or in big city, really surprising.

Flickr, today was my last school day EVER- i only have to come back for the exams and the prom.
This is weird.
And made me kind of sad this day (but i hadnt much time to think about it, i had been learning all day long. now i don´t want anything more than sleep- good night and good luck, dear flickr-friend!
inspired by brooke shaden and rosiehardy.
By 7:30 this morning I still hadnt slept, but my reward was seeing
the beautiful moon setting in the sky.
The view from Monument Boulders near Llangollen on a clear Autumn Morning.
The ruins of a medieval Castle on the hill with a carpet of Autumn colours surrounding it. i never get tired of this view but i have to admit it does looks its best in Autumn.
I hadnt planned on ending up so high up the side of the hill, in fact i was about another 50 meters up the hill from panorama walk thanks to google maps taking me through a field on what was supposed to be a cycle route! amazing view though!!
so..im a genius, i went on a shoot without checking the weather so it turned on me and the sun vanished as we arrived, so i changed the original shoot plan and shot indoors, when i then realised i hadnt put the battery pack back in my camera. i also forgot my packet of polaroids so the whole shoot was resting on just one 24 shot colour film and a few holga frames left over.
and i must say, my favourate shots were the three i managed to squeeze out of the SX70 James Kendall very kindly lent me.

I use these to light our wood burning stove at night. I gather that aspen and poplar are the main woods used for match manufacture
the box of these matches says that they are "The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) 100%" I was intrigued by this and hadnt noticed it before!
Looking this up it means that they are made from wood from from forests that are managed responsibly and in a way that benefits the local community and the environment.
"The FSC's mission is to ensure that forests thrive for all, and they work to encourage businesses to make ethical and responsible choices"

Theres been aplenty of people who have inspired me to do this shot, i am trying to find the girl who has a wicked shot with a hand print on her face..where are you?! :)
I found her photo and shockingly i hadnt actually fave'd it..until now.
Correct the way we try to feel
I used acrylic paints to do this..reminder to anyone who wants to give it a go..close your bleedin eyes beforehand else you may find your
world changes colour..woopsies(luckily i was wearing my contact lens)
Acrylic paint makes a great colourful peel off face mask though! ;)
I'm going to go back to using my lil panasonic soon, i havn't forgotten you my love!

Here you go Dave :-)
Myself, Dave Dummet and Tim Barker met up earlier this evening for a shoot and Dave mentioned that he hadnt seen a shot of Bideford Bridge for a while now.
Well, here is one. This was actually taken back in December 2010 and has been sat on my hard drive since. Its nat that there is anything wrong with it, but in the same respect, i dont think its that special (compared to some other images i have of it) And, yes that is Snow on the roofs of the houses !
Seems a long was away from the weather at the moment that we are currently getting.
Was glancing through Ebay this morning when I saw one of my faved sellers seling new Sparkle Girls outfits that I hadnt seen, so I went to Walmart after work today to see if the had any and they did so I picked up these five hopefully they will have more that I like as much as these!!!
Had to get up at an insane 7:30 this morning, i was not pleased :p, captured a really nice shot of the sunrise but my 366 project is based around building on my creativity. On the way to school at a silly time in the morning i shot this through the car window. It had all frosted ove and hadnt been properly cleared, i liked the way the ice shimmered in the low early morning light :).
It may not be as nice to look at as my actual sunrise shot but i think its a lil bit more creative :p
Made it to the front page of explore :D, my first!

I was in NYC 6 years ago and this is one of my favorite shots till date. I never really found the time to edit it as the image has a lot going on. You have too many buildings in this cityscape and they needed to be post processed one by one. It required me to keep on selecting each building, each side of the building and add a depth through dodge and burn selective grading so the buildings dont look cluttered or compressed due to the distance from which I was shooting. This is one of the reasons I hadnt touched it so far. Finally I had the chance to edit it and this is an output of the last 3 days.

Scanned.
I did quite a few different scan shoots today so I'll upload another one later or tomorrow or maybe not. We'll have to see!
I went out yesterday to get prints done and buy a frame and managed to set myself back on my recovery by a few days cos now my back hurts a little again! Annoyed about that but dont regret it cos at least I'm forcing myself out a little. Need to go out tomorrow too to take the prints to the gallery for the exhibition I might be in! I have 2 of my cousins helping carry the stuff though which is good. I've been very fortunate the last couple of weeks with how helpful my family have been - I definitely owe them all a hugee thank you!
You know they say everything in life happens for a reason? Well, if I hadnt gotten injured and had gone on my trip, I'd have been stuck in Turkey right now and wouldnt have made it to the exhibition entry dates and all that. So maybe thats why this happened. On the other hand, I'd be amongst thousands of people rioting in the streets of Kurdistan and between that and an exhibition, I'd always pick that so I dunno. Just thinking through my fingers
Week starting 26th January.
The third week of my random object photographs and this weeks is this little glass thing that I think is used to burn oils or spirits. Took me ages to get this shot right. I thought a mirror reflection was a good idea but couldnt get anywhere where the reflection was a plain colour, but in the end I decided to place the mirror on the floor and use my black dressing gown hung from a chair to get the plain black background. The burner hadnt been used so i just slightly burnt the ends of the string for a little added effect. There is not much editing on this image just a slight crop and small adjust of levels. I didnt even bother to clean the morror or edit out the specs of dust on it, thought it added to the effect, and I didnt want to go through all the trouble of getting the plain background for it to look like I just edited it all out.
The winter is very nice this year in Stockholm , it hadnt been snowing that much for decades! This street art is very famous, but the snow added something really new that i hadnt imagined walking in front of this sculpture days after days.
The funny thing is that somebody added to the guy these very colorfull gloves that convicted me to edit it as a selection of colors + bw while surexposing the snow.

Typical this Black-tailed Skimmer chose a scarce heath potter wasp as its lunch! I had only seen my first ever heath potter wasp there a few minutes earlier. Luckily I saw one later as well so this skimmer hadnt eaten the only one at that site :)
I'd nipped out to the village library ( books overdue) and shopped. Hadnt eaten since breakfast and it was after 1 but driving back down the main street, there was this. How could I resist! Parked the car and just went for it ..and all thoughts of food went right out of my head.....
If I hadnt seen him fly in I would have thought it was a duck in the bright sunshine. Very cool to watch this heron swim around the pond.
Someone had thrown some bread into the water for the ducks, this robin spotted a slice which the ducks hadnt spotted. It landed on the branch to the right but couldnt reach the bread. So it decided to land on the bread instead, amazing to see a bird eating and floating on a piece of bread.
A shame about the quality of the pic,but i had the wrong settings as this was in a dark shaded area.
Unfortunately for the robin the ducks soon spotted the bread, and it was gobbled up in seconds.
This is my friend Sam hes super into lord of the rings he even has this outfit its pretty awesome. And since I hadnt shot in a while I figured it would be fun to go out and do a shoot with it.

I put a simmilar view up a couple of weeks ago to this in colour. I processed this at the same time but hadnt posted it. Think I prefer it actually
I cant believe I hadnt uploaded this image before now.
I shot this May 30th in the hight of my Epson R-D1 shooting phase. Ive gone trhough a lot of cameras this year let alone film. I just with I had grabbed this on slide film, because its a jpg image not RAW, and I think its a little flat.
I sot it on the corner of Virginia and 5th in downtown Seattle, which is a no flash corner at the start of the summer in the early evenings.
I had the R-D1 and my stock 15mm which becomes a 21mm. I was walking by and out of the corner of my eye I saw this very tall young girl, bound accross the street, what a glide! I back handed the camera, and felt the shutter go, this happened. That 15mm is is the only anti-focus lens for rangefinder, that and maybe the 12mm. It was probably wide open because there is considerable vignetting.
Ive been showcasing this image along with a few others over the summer and have had a lot of interest in my work recently.
I think this is one of my most exciting and favorite street images.
I hope you like it too.
Last Thursday I decided to stop at exchange place to get some shots before heading into the city, this is one I got, quite a moody sky that morning, just as I took this the winds started picking up and we ended up with a really windy day gusts up to 60 Miles an hour I belive.
After this I took the NY Waterway ferry across to Manhattan something I hadnt done before was a nice commute above water rather than below it as normal in the PATH train
Just got back from vacation. I had built in alwhile. And I hadnt done Weird War in quite awhile. So I went ahead and did it.
THE PRINTS ARE ALMOST HERE!!!

3 I couldnt bond with Bonnie!! But I couldnt just sell her because I had overspent on her blank face, no one wanted her for that price. I am not one to undersell myself quickly. I also thought I wouldnt bring another boy in for Teddy, but I accidently put the hoodie on the Bonnie and saw a very young boy. I remmeber seeing a boy in the sculpt when I first got the plate but hadnt given much thought after that.
the bride said she hadnt been nervous at all - but those two minutes they had to wait infront of the church door, it suddenly hit her :)
no land.. but its nice to know my flashes can still put up with midday sun.
sorry I didn't realise i hadnt put lighting settings up here. 1 flash camera left behind bench, and 2 flashes camera right, at different levels, the sun was that strong.
Another part of Saturday night's session - I really wanted to catch C/2016 R2 but couldn't find it at first so took a few subs of M45 before trying again. This is initially 8 x 5 min sub-exposures but I was able to find 5 x 5 minute subs from a session in Nov 2014 from the same camera and scope and add them in.
The old subs had a diffraction spike from a hair from a cleaning brush stuck on the focal reducer! - Ive left them in.
I hadnt got my guiding sorted at the start of the evening and lost 2 subs to DEC drive backlash - got that sorted by hitting the "compensate" button in PHD2 and only guiding Southwards as DEC tended to push Northwards.

The sky looks like a scene out of the appocalypse, hence the title.
I used a polariser to darken the blue sky with the intention of converting to BW and while im really pleased with the sky the grass and bales hadnt come out exactly as i had hoped.
I have a couple of images from this evening, but this is by far my favourite.
I asssume this was a trade in but before this I hadnt seen it so must have come in very recently. 2 door Escorts are very rare so it did make my day seeing it. Showing 16K at its last MOT but its 116K, looked rather solid though! 3 owners from new, until 11 months ago it had a personalised plate on it.
Realised that i hadnt added a photo of the big daddy into my county top set..so here's one from a few years ago.
“Lunar rainbows or spray-bows also abound in the glorious affluence of dashing, rejoicing, hurrahing, enthusiastic spring floods, their colors are distinct as those of the sun and regularly and obviously banded, though less vivid. Fine specimens may befound any night at the foot of the Upper Yosemite Fall, glowing gloriously amid the gloomy shadows and thundering waters, whenever there is plenty of moonlight and spray. Even the secondary bow is at times distinctly visible. “ (John Muir, The Yosemite, 1912)
Originally I was up higher on the trail at my favorite spot but got there a little too late to see if a rainbow formed from the sunlight, although ideal to watch the full moon rise over mt starr king at sunset. The conditions were too perfect for night photography so I got delayed until I realized the moon was approaching the highest point it would be in the sky. At this point there was no sign of a bow and I began to think a ridge would prevent the moon light from reaching the base, this was only amplified by the fact that I was one day off from the full moon so the angle was even more than what I was thinking. This left a very difficult decision; stay and miss it entirely, leave and miss everything or stay and watch the chance for a show, leave and catch the chance for moonbow as you approach the falls. Since the moon was approaching the halfway point I figured I would be able to spot the bow at some point on my descent since at the top you're looking more towards the NE at the falls then down below its more to the N. I only had the night so I was pretty determined to capture the phenomena....heck I can always hike back up :|
I packed up and headed through the now incredibly large cloud of mist, just after sunset its really neat to see the mist cloud expand but not so much fun being in it. As I approached the first view of the falls I turned and saw a faint unmistakable bow beginning at the base which became more intense and rose higher in the sky as I furiously began shooting the falls/moonbow. Shocked this actually turned out as well as it did considering how much mist was falling, enough to create a double moonbow. 30 seconds was a stretch considering the constant stream of mist but my umbrella put up a good defense. Also you can somewhat determine how much mist is going to be impacting you by watching the flow of the falls and by not shooting when you hear wind. So after doing battle it was a bit after 1 and I hadnt slept in nearly 2 days so I appropriately passed out shortly there after...woke up wet and cold with a big smile on my face.
We are up in Donegal for a few days. Seemed good to be so far West for the partial eclipse this morning - we were to get to see 46% of the sun disc being obscured. So a bit more than we would have seen at home and a lot more than folk in England or Scotland could expect to see.
but weather in Donegal can be a barrier to most activities. ..and so was the case today. There was no sun to see and without a compass I would not have been able to say even in what general direction it was!
continuous rain most of the morning. It was quite dull for 11am but if I hadnt known about the eclipse, I would have assumed that the dullness was caused by the cloud alone.
anyway this is what Teelin bay and harbour looked like around peak eclipse, with camera pointing roughly in the predicted direction of the sun.
The Stranglers - Always The Sun
I always imagine when I begin my annual two week holiday at the end of October that I will kiss the cats, tickle the missus’ ears, hoist the camera bag over one shoulder and disappear into the woods, to emerge a fortnight later, loaded with images, ticks and bits of broken twigs in my not considerable hair. Sadly this is never how it works out and various factors including weather, jobs around the home, weather and more seriuously a very personal family matter put paid to those ambitions. I am not complaining by any means, this is the whole reason why I book this time off as I know very well that life gets in the way.
Last week I headed to Wales to meet up with family and had a lovely time, tinged with sadness. I managed to get a short trip over to Porthcawl in but the waves there were not a patch on previous visits and I left feeling quite down. By the start of the second week I had barely stepped into a wood and the frustration was building. The weather reports for the coming week were not looking good either with high winds being the biggest problem. It looked like this autumn was going to be a bust photographically speaking. But fear not dear reader as things are about to pick up!
On Sunday I decided to head to Savernake. Clear blue skies and bright sunny conditions were forecast so I decdied to treat the trip as a scout only, wandering around a section of the forest I had previously not visited. Upon arrival I was greeted by an over excuberant golden retriever called Billy who had the biggest smile on his face as he erupted from his owners car and nearly bowled me over in his excitement to see a person. A brief chat with his owner and a ruffling of ears later I was headed inot the forest armed with my camera and a large amount of long golden hair over my legs! I hoped my missus’ wouldnt get the wrong idea!
My trusty tripod had also decided at this point to lose a screw and had gained a very wobbly leg so I left that in the car, relying on high ISO to get me mny shots this morning. The walk was pleasant enough and I found some lovely scenes to revist but the colours were not quite there yet in the forest and the light very quickly became harsh and too contrasty to do anything with. Still, it had whetted my appetite for further wanders into the autumn woodlands.
When I returned home, checking for any lingering golden hairs before going inside I took a look at the weather reports for the rest of the week. I noticed on Wednesday there was a small chance for mist at a woodland I frequent on Dartmoor and decided to try it. My body on the other hand was conspiring against me and the night before I had a rough night with a badly swollen left knee. I got up early but fell asleep again on the sofa and awoke too late to head down to Dartmoor. Drat! Instead I swallowed down a couple of Ibuprofen, pulled up my big boy pants and limped over to Fonthill lake in Wiltshire, a regular haunt for me. Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised to see autumn was in full flow here with stunning colours in the woods surrounding the lake. I hastily worked my way along one side of the lake that has public access, shooting across to the other side and capturing some qwuite glorious autumnal colours.
I also managed to capture my favourite image of the year when I stumbled upon this tree that had fallen into the lake. The lake levels had dropped revealing the bones of the tree poking from the black waters. I managed somehow to get down to a low level with the composition that allowed me to include the colours from the opposite bank reflecting on the waters. My knee was screaming blue murder at me but the pain was worth it for this image!
I spent a very happy couple of hours hobbling round the lake and returned home a happy bunny. But things were going to get even better the next day!
Dave had been over to a wood we had visited back in January and had excitedley rung me to tell me how insane the colours were looking there right now. It looked from the weather reports that I only had the next day as a window of oppurtunity to head there myself so packed the gear and recharded the batteries ready for another early rise the next day.
After filling the car up with fuel the following morning for the near two hour drive to the wood I noticed their was some lovely colour in the sky and after a brief and very vocal argument with myself that was surely being observed on the cameras by the staff member at the station I decided to divert over to Lonely Joe and see If I could capture a shot in the short space of time I had negotiated with myself!
I eventually arrived just after 8am at the wood and knew my time here wouldnt be long as high winds were moving in at 9……it took me ten minutes just to leave the car park as I found at least three compositions within 20 yards of the car! My gast was well and truly flabbered by the extraordinary colours I was witnessing around me. Golden yellow birch leaves intermingled with the dark green needles of the Scots pines. Beech leaves that varied from a pale green to a vibrant orange and bracken that varied from a dark rust to a pale yellow. It was simply breathtaking!
I spent a good two hours in these incredible woods and if the wind hadnt arrived to spoil the fun I expect I would have spent the entire day in there. Compositions were tricky to come by as the woods are quite tightly packed and messy with lots of gaps revealing the sky, but thats the kind of challenge I enjoy! It amazes me why these woods dont appear online more as I rarely if ever see anything from here on the IG. It feels completely different to all the other woodlands in my area with a unique vibe.
I left feeling very happy but wondering how I was going to get the hair off my legs from the red retriever I had met!
Thanks for reading.
Toodles!
Rosie the 10 year-old German Shepherd hadnt seen the edge of the ice as she ran across part of Epping Forest in east London. Realising her error, she tried to stop as the water approached, but she skidded into the icy water of Connaught Water in Rangers Road, Chingford, London E4.
Fire crews from across London rushed to the scene after being alerted by a 999 call just after 2.30pm.
Fire teams arrived to find Rosie hanging on for dear life to the edge of the ice, about 10 metres from the bank of the lake. Her distraught owner being comforted by friends and a local vet who happened to be at the scene.
Scores of people looked on as Rosie battled to free herself from the deathly waters, but it became obvious she was tiring, and struggled at some points to stay afloat, clinging to the sheet of ice from which she skidded for dear life.
As firefighters arrived, dressed in water suits and lifejackets they tried to encourage the German Shepherd onto the ice by tying a tree branch to a rope and throwing it towards her life a lifebelt, but she was too weak to respond. As every minute passed Rosies hopes of survival let alone rescue diminished.
Fire crews used a boat to inch across the sheet ice before managing to grab Rosie from the water, amid huge cheers from those on the bank, before the firefighters - and thier boat was pulled to safety by colleagues. Rosie was handed over to her grateful owner to cover the dog in blankets, before being taken off to visit a nearby vet.
Onlookers clapped firefighters as they made up thier equipment and quietly left the scene.
It was the second diog rescue of the day for these specialist crews - earlier in the day they had made a similar rescue from a lake in Springfield Park, in Clapton, east London.

February 24, 2007. The weatherman predicted rain, thunderstorms, there was a possible tornado (since last week was warm and a cold front moved in). It rained a bit Friday night, and I *had* to go hiking. My friend, who was supposed to come with me fell ill and couldnt make it. I was on my own. I hadnt decided where to go at that point, just wanted to head out to Whiterock mountain area, where there are numerous falls.
Yesterday was pure ADRENALINE. The good kind. And I got to see waterfalls, fog, rain, all the three that I love! The best part is, everybody decided to stay indoors and mostly it was Mother Nature and me! Whiterock area is remote, you cant expect crowd, but a state highway like this was also deserted.
As I have seen before, the visibility was 10 feet, this avenue of trees were just amazing in the fog (they were actually foggier, the camera cleared some while focusing). I stopped on the road and clicked. It was raining, so this shot was taken right after a wiper cycle. You can see a drop has actually beat me before I could take this shot!
Have a great Sunday!

This was my lunch yesterday....I love Miyako's and the staff are so friendly, I hadnt been there in months but many of the waiters and one of the Habachi chef's remembered me. They are always making things for me and who ever is with me to try...and its always GOOD!!!
