After (finally!) some consistent rainfall in the Blue Mountains, it was time to get back to waterfalls! Dawn was a white out at Echo Point as fog/cloud was opaque so it was off to the smaller waterfalls. One of the prettiest spots in all the mountains is the Pool of Siloam. With some reasonable flow in the water and foggy conditions made me glad to pick this spot again.

El río Sil nace en la cordillera Cantábrica, al pie de la Peña Orniz, a 1.980 msnm, en las cercanías del pueblo de La Cueta. Discurre por las comarcas leonesas de Babia, Laciana, El Bierzo y La Cabrera, y por las comarcas gallegas de Valdeorras, Quiroga, Tierra de Lemos, Tierra de Caldelas y Ourense. Atraviesa, entre otras, las localidades de Villablino, Ponferrada, El Barco de Valdeorras, Rúa, Quiroga y Ribas de Sil, además de la Reserva de la Biosfera del Valle de Laciana poco después de su nacimiento.

Se une con el río Miño en la Ribeira Sacra, en el lugar de Los Peares, en la frontera entre las provincias de Lugo y Orense. Pocos kilómetros antes forma los Cañones del Sil.
Generalmente, la jerarquía entre ríos se efectúa teniendo en cuenta en su confluencia al que tiene más caudal y más longitud. En este caso, como ocurre con el Esla y el Pisuerga con el Duero, el Sil no supera al Miño en longitud, unos 20 kilómetros menos, pero si en caudal (de ahí viene el dicho: el Sil lleva el agua y el Miño la fama).

Built in 1282 by Willem van Brederode. The first castle consisted of a bailey and a square keep which probably stood at the present day courtyard. Its function was to control the through road to the Kennemerland.
This castle was besieged and destroyed by the Kabeljauw troops under the command of Gijsbert van Nijenrode in 1351.
Between 1354 and 1426 Brederode Castle was completely restored on the existing foundations. Until its destruction in 1426 by the people of Haarlem.
It took until 1464 before the northern part, which had been less damaged, was again suitable for habitation. In 1491, the castle fell prey to plundering German soldiers and the castle fell into decay.
Around 1573, shortly after the siege of the city of Haarlem, Spanish troops set fire to the castle.
In the following period only the buildings on the bailey were habitable, but after 1600 these also fell into decay.
From 1600 till 1862, the castle ruins slowly disappeared under the dune sands. Only a few building traces stuck out of the sand.
From 1862 until 1903 the castle ruins were excavated and researched. Also between 1986 and 1988 the castle's construction history was researched.

Car tail lights trails on a dirt road through the Alabama Hill, under a starry night sky.
Miles Morgan does it better: Both Miles and I photographed this dirt road, exposing the streaking tail lights of our cars. Miles took a narrower view from the hill to the right, just above the road —allowing him to shoot from a higher position and capture more of an "S" curve composition to the road. Instead of shooting in the middle of the night like I did, he shot in the pre-dawn hour and used the setting moon in the sky rather than stars. I think you'll agree that his "blue hour" shot tops my starry night view! After admiring his great photograph, be sure to scroll down and read the story behind the image. It's worth the time. Miles is just as good with a pen as he is with a camera.
Exploring the Alabama Hills: I just returned from a week-long scouting trip in the Alabama Hills of Eastern California, where I will be conducting a starry "NightScape" workshop in April 2014 (we will also be doing a lot of daytime photography).

Honfleur is a commune in the Calvados department in Normandy en.normandie-tourisme.fr/normandy-tourism-109-2.html in northwestern France. It is located on the southern bank of the estuary of the Seine across from le Havre and very close to the exit of the Pont de Normandie. Its inhabitants are called Honfleurais. It is especially known for its old, beautiful picturesque port, characterized by its houses with slate-covered frontages, painted many times by artists, including in particular Gustave Courbet, Eugène Boudin, Claude Monet and Johan Jongkind, forming the école de Honfleur (Honfleur school) which contributed to the appearance of the Impressionist movement. The Sainte-Catherine church, which has a bell tower separate from the principal building, is the largest church made out of wood in France. The first written record of Honfleur is a reference by Richard III, Duke of Normandy, in 1027. By the middle of the 12th century, the city represented a significant transit point for goods from Rouen to England. Located on the estuary of one of the principal rivers of France with a safe harbour and relatively rich hinterland, Honfleur profited from its strategic position from the start of the Hundred Years' War. The town's defences were strengthened by Charles V in order to protect the estuary of the Seine from attacks from the English. This was supported by the nearby port of Harfleur. However, Honfleur was taken and occupied by the English in 1357 and from 1419 to 1450. When under French control, raiding parties often set out from the port to ransack the English coasts, including partially destroying the town of Sandwich, in Kent, England, in the 1450s. At the end of the Hundred Years' War, Honfleur benefited from the boom in maritime trade until the end of the 18th century. Trade was disturbed during the wars of religion in the 16th century. The port saw the departure of a number of explorers, in particular in 1503 of Binot Paulmierde Gonneville to the coasts of Brazil. In 1506, local man Jean Denis departed for Newfoundland island and the mouth of the Saint Lawrence. An expedition in 1608, organised by Samuel de Champlain, founded the city of Quebec in modern day Canada. After 1608, Honfleur thrived on trade with Canada, the West Indies, the African coasts and the Azores. As a result, the town became one of the five principal ports for the slave trade in France. During this time the rapid growth of the town saw the demolition of its fortifications on the orders of Colbert. The wars of the French revolution and the First Empire, and in particular the continental blockade, caused the ruin of Honfleur. It only partially recovered during the 19th century with the trading of wood from northern Europe. Trade was however limited by the silting up of the entrance to the port and development of the modern port at Le Havre. The port however still functions today. On August 25, 1944, Honfleur was liberated together by the British army - 19th Platoon of the 12th Devon's, 6th Air Landing Brigade, the Belgian army (Brigade Piron) on 25 August 1944.[1] and the Canadian army without any combat. en.normandie-tourisme.fr/articles/honfleur-278-2.html

Hoy en día, los desastres suceden constantemente, ¿estás anhelado más que nunca que venga el Señor a llevarte al reino de los cielos? ¿Pero sabes? Hay estándares para entrar en el reino de los cielos, y no todos los creyentes pueden entrar en él. Entonces, ¿qué tipo de personas poseen tal condición? La respuesta está en la Palabra de Dios.
Está escrito en la Biblia: “En verdad, en verdad os digo que todo el que comete pecado es esclavo del pecado; y el esclavo no queda en la casa para siempre; el hijo sí permanece para siempre” (Juan 8:34-35). “Sed santos, porque Yo soy santo” (1 Pedro 1:16).
Dios Todopoderoso dice: “Debes saber qué tipo de personas deseo; los impuros no tienen permitido entrar en el reino, ni mancillar el suelo santo. Aunque puedes haber realizado muchas obras y obrado durante muchos años, si al final sigues siendo deplorablemente inmundo, entonces ¡será intolerable para la ley del Cielo que desees entrar en Mi reino! Desde la fundación del mundo hasta hoy, nunca he ofrecido acceso fácil a Mi reino a cualquiera que se gana mi favor. Esta es una norma celestial ¡y nadie puede quebrantarla!”.

Concept:
“This is Wan Chai” is an observation of the theatrical stage that everyday life presents, as seen through the lens of magical realism. Images of Wan Chai’s iconic heritage are enriched by the performances of over 40 principal, soloist, coryphée and corps de ballet dancers from the Hong Kong Ballet as well as members of the public. Spanning a length of approximately 150 metres, the artwork reimagines and reinvents the station as a public space at the heart of the local community. In this way, the station is transformed into a living stage of choreographed street scenes that commuters play their part in as they pass through.
“This is Wan Chai” is part of the “Moving Cities” series. Moving Cities is part of an on-going global inventory of film and photographic work in which world cities are transcribed through dance.

Tung Wah Coffin Home
Situated on Sandy Bay Road, Tung Wah Coffin Home was established in 1899. It is believed that the predecessor of Tung Wah Coffin Home was a coffin home near the slaughter house in Kennedy Town, which was established in 1875 with funds from the Man Mo Temple in Sheung Wan. Its management was later handed over to Tung Wah Hospital. In 1899, Tung Wah Coffin Home was officially named when a plot of land in Sandy Bay was granted by the Government for rebuilding the coffin home.
Taking advantage of Hong Kong’s entrepot status, its geographic location at the doorway to mainland China, and the close connections of Tung Wah Hospital’s board members with overseas organisations and global business network, the coffin home was able to provide a repatriation service for those deceased abroad by providing a temporary depository at the coffin home, from where the deceased could then be returned to their birth place for burial. This service eventually allowed the coffin home became the centre of a global charity hub during the last century.
Tung Wah Coffin Home now consists two halls, 72 rooms, gateways, pavilion and gardens built in different periods. Its buildings reflect a variety of architectural styles, ranging from traditional Chinese vernacular architecture to modern Western-style elements, and others that are a hybrid of both. Tung Wah Coffin Home underwent a large scale restoration project between 2003 and 2004, with a view to restore the coffin home’s elements to their original architectural styles. The restoration project won the Award of Merit in the 2005 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards and the Award of Honor in the Heritage Preservation and Conservation Awards offered by the Antiquities and Monuments Office in the same year.
Tung Wah Coffin Home was declared a monument in 2020.

If one passes the garden at the rear of the Juhamnu Pavilion and walks down along the slope of the hill leading into the stairway, the person can find a square pond on the opposite side and a pavilion on the north bank of the pond. This is the Aeryeonjeong, which is composed of only 1 kan. Looking out of the windows of the pavilion, one can enjoy a wonderful view. It looks like just a framed picture, owing to the decorations attached to the upper part of the pillars. Of course, the mood of the picture depends on the season. In particular, the stone structure, through which water comes into the pond, is opposite excellent in beauty and technique of design.

Located in Hong Kong’s North District and right next to Shenzhen’s Yantian District, Sha Tau Kok was designated as part of the Frontier Closed Area in 1951. Since then, Sha Tau Kok has been accessible only to individuals with a closed area permit. Back in the days when Sha Tau Kok was closed to non-residents, visiting the border town also required a guarantee from a local resident. As it begins to open gradually, Sha Tau Kok has become a great choice for weekend getaways.
The first phase of the opening of Sha Tau Kok began in June 2022, followed by the second phase starting January 2024. Visitors can board a kaito ferry to explore Sha Tau Kok and enjoy the area’s beautiful scenery, unique attractions and local delicacies, either independently or through local tours. You can also take a ferry to nearby islands and areas, such as Lai Chi Wo, Kat O, Ap Chau and Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark.

•The daily quota of visitors with the Tourism Closed Area Permit is set at 2,300 individuals, and 700 group visitors on weekends and public holidays. There is no quota limit for groups on weekdays.
•Individual travellers must enter Sha Tau Kok by public transport, with the addition of ferry services to Sha Tau Kok from Lai Chi Wo/Ap Chau/Kat O. Private cars are NOT allowed.
•Area: Sha Tau Kok (excluding Chung Ying Street).
•Opening hours: Every day from 7am to 9pm.
