This morning I rode my new e-bike to James Tellen Woodland Sculpture Garden in Black River. The ride was excellent and, once I arrived at the empty sculpture garden, found the lighting to be perfect. The mix of sunlight , greenery, and shadows was just what I had hoped for,

The Kunsthaus Tacheles is a former department store which since 1990 houses a self-organized collective of artists on Oranienburger Straße (old Jewish quarter) in Berlin-Mitte. The word "Tacheles" comes from a Yiddish word for "plain, honest, straightforward talk".

We travelled through the Yorkshire Dales today, where we saw the two highest of the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We drove past Whernside, the highest - and to be honest - the least impressive. Then we saw in the distance from Kingsdale the second highest, which is Ingleborough (2,372 feet above sea level). This well-known landmark can be seen from many miles away.
I Have to be honest, i'm not too keen on this image - I think it's quite grey with a bit too much motion and not enough detail.

Koning Winter is nog steeds volop in het land. Op woensdag 17 januari viel er in de buurt van Brussel 10 à 15 centimeter sneeuw - niet echt aangenaam als je er moet doorrijden maar wel fraai... zeker als de sneeuw zou blijven liggen (inderdaad ja) en als de zon er zou doorkomen (en dat was inderdaad voorzien voor de dag na de sneeuwval door de verschillende weersites die ik controleer).
En aangezien ik in de voormiddag geen vergaderingen voorzien had en er thuiswerk op de planning stond, werd snel een extra halve dag verlof genomen. Een paar sneeuwfoto's met trein erop waren zo wat plichtwerk voor mij.
En zo trok ik op donderdag 18 januari naar Rebecq en wachtte op wat ging komen. Nou dat wachten was een beetje letterlijk te noemen want door treinvertragingen duurde het een pak langer dan voorzien voor ik beet had. Gelukkig had mijn broer Wouter net hetzelfde idee en dus ging met een babbel de tijd veel sneller voorbij.
Na een eerste Thalys... euh Eurostar (uitgevoerd met een PBA stel in een dienst Amsterdam - Parijs die met meer dan 30 minuten in de plus reed), volgde al snel deze PBKA met een relatief op tijd zijnde Eurostar van Dortmund Hbf naar de Franse lichtstad. Hiervoor werd deze fraaie Ruby gebruikt.
Een groot verschil met verleden week rond Herk de Stad. De enige constante was de kou ;-)

After the snowfall on Wednesday 17 January 2024, the weather forecast predicted sunny weather for Thursday.
So I planned to take some recup hours on the morning. The destination was soon clear: the surroundings of Rebecq. This is on the one hand not far from home and the view over the snowy landscape in direction of the valley of the Senne is splendid here.
I was not the only one with this planning and so my brother Wouter joined me after a couple of minutes (and to be honest this wasn't prearranged).
Together we waited for some trains - it took a bit longer than planned due to delays. But with two Eurostar services to Paris and a TGV and a Eurostar service from London to Brussels in a duration of +/- 30 minutes the outcome was more than satisfying.

At first glance I thought I saw an apparition of Honest Ed Mirvish on the pedestrian walkway, but on closer inspection I realized the figure was not wearing a suit. In all my times seeing Ed Mirvish when he was alive, he was always wearing a suit. The dress code at all his restaurants was suit and ties for gentlemen after all. After 68 years in business, the iconic Toronto bargain warehouse will close its doors forever December 31st.
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. The ones along the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts, so that they may not believe and be saved. And the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear the word, receive it with joy. But these have no root; they believe for a while, and in time of testing fall away. A (somewhat) typical dreary day on the southern coast of Iceland early on an autumn morning. That little piece of the planet produces some of the worst weather I’ve been in. Hell, I was even stuck at the Keflavik airport for several hours late one night because the plane that just landed before my flight departed had crashed on the runway in some nasty weather. So, I recon I’ve spent around 4 weeks photographing in Iceland over the past several years and only have three photos in my entire portfolio from that place. If I’m honest, I blame the lack of decent images on that terrible weather. But if I’m ACTUALLY honest, I just suck at playing cameras.

To be totally honest, to me, this is the best photo I have ever taken and still out of all the groups it is in, it has at very little reaction considering. Going through groups since the Flickr restrictions came into force, Im finding that the majority of photos are now just basic amateur snaps of holidays etc and the more competent photographers dont appear to be using groups anymore. I think Flickr is finished unless it puts things back as they were but anyway, its not going to survive. Im not prepared to spend 8 hours a day on this site trawling through photos or adding more friends that I cant keep up with so its groups or nothing for me! I Wont be left with any option but to leave.

I first met Mohammed Harib (lammtara) in 1999 when we studied together in the states. Back then he showed me a sketch of 4 characters from the UAE and said “I will make a cartoon when I am done”. I was happy for him but never thought it would become true. Today and after 6 years FREEJ was officially announced and his dream is now a reality. I salute him for his courage and determination as he proved to me and many people of this generation that dreams can come true, and we can be who we choose to become. It gave me great pleasure to have shared his dream and lend my voice for one of his characters (UM ALLAWI) when his demo was in production, but sadly due my engagement with school abroad, I won’t be able to further assist. Lammtara is a man of dreams, diving into many fields. A role model that all of us should follow. I look forward with anticipation for his animation next year on Dubai TV.
The heavens opened and most folk took shelter as it didn't look to be improving Stu and myself retired to the pub, just to get out of the rain, honest...........

You guessed, yet another insane and crazy day in the land of work. So, standard. I was actually hoping that it would be a quieter day today as the majority of the staff were away this morning, but things never quite go as planned and those who were there seemed determined on keeping things as chaotic as usual.
At least the days go by quickly, now if only I could find a way to make Friday show up faster. I'd have it made then!

Honest Ed's is a landmark discount store located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is named for its proprietor, Ed Mirvish, who opened the store in 1948. By 1968 the store was grossing $14 million annually. The exterior is covered with huge red and yellow signs advertising the name of the store, lit up like a theatre marquee. The store is slated to permanently close on December 31, 2016
