Dundas Square is Toronto's answer to Times Square with many advertising billboards. It is also site for outdoor concerts and festivals. It was a place for protests and demonstrations, until the authorities decided that in the name of Democracy, protests are only permitted for approved causes and for freedoms in countries far away. I was crossing the square, when the billboard above flooded the place with colour on otherwise grey drizzly day. The square was not always there. It opened in 2002 in effort to revitalize the area. To be honest, I should, but do not remember what was there before.

dissipate and my anticipation
disappears like urban myths
that once seemed honest, true and permanent
but now appear rarified as Scotch mist
I play the music it fills the air
the ivory keys invisibly stained with blood
the ebony hardened like the wounded stare
of civilisations misunderstood
when will we learn to be as one
is it so hard to find harmony
the rhythm of Mendelssohn's fragmented vision
resounds in my ears and soothing me
I pick up the notes with nimble fingers
disperse them into the universe
hoping that someone, somewhere will hear them
and heal our planet, not make it worse
transferring thoughts like transference of scores
of tiny notes that alone have only partial impact
I begin to play a different theme tune to my life

A hard man is good to find.
This is the second of my challenges taking place at my parcel, Noshinima's Neighborhood. After a month of brainstorming for ideas and working and creating, my new challenge to all of you is finally complete and ready for visitors. This is a new concept I am showcasing on my Flickr, where I challenge 50 great artists to do a photo shoot in the backdrop I created at my home sim.
For the second challenge, I created a large city park, filled with trees, flowers, a fountain and many recreational areas for people to relax and have fun in. I am challenging the names tagged in this post to do a shoot within my city park anywhere they like and however they like.
Rules and details:
1) I (Noshinima Midas) tag 50 names of great photographers on Second Life. Said photographers that choose to participate in the challenge can come over to my parcel, Noshinima's Neighborhood (link below) and do an image anywhere in my park. You will be allowed two hours to use any posestands or props that you would like to add and are allowed to bring any friends you want to join you in your shoot. You are also allowed to make the shoot as safe or as adult as you like. The only rule is that you do the shoot within the city park. Take your time to have a look around to see where in the park would make a great place for your image.
2) Upload the finished image onto Flickr and place the hashtag #NoshsHoodChallenge2 on either the title or the description.
3) From there, tag 10 of your friends names (no more, no less) of people that you would also like to see do this challenge that has not yet been tagged by me on this post. Link them to this post and explain the rules to them as well. They must also tag 10 of their friends that they would like to see do this challenge if they themselves choose to participate as well.

I still want to find the joy in the small and large things in life. I don't want to stop being myself, laughing, listening to music, drawing.....loving cats and coffee...it's the small things that lead to big happiness.
This current terror is holding me hostage. I'm forgetting simple things and I am having more middle of the night panic attacks. And, at the same time, I am still very privileged and I just have to remember that looking for relief in every day moments is a sign of that whereas others are just struggling to survive.
I feel like I don't have the right to be depressed but I still can't help it. It's a horrible place to be. And, I want to be hopeful and not helpless but I feel like all the magic and wonder has been extinguished from this world these days. I miss my old self, the old reality...before I saw things for what they really were and felt gravely disappointed in people.
Just an honest ramble. I still think art is important but I have to work to engage and not just completely disappear like a whisper in the night that you hear from a ghost.

This morning I rode my new e-bike to James Tellen Woodland Sculpture Garden in Black River. The ride was excellent and, once I arrived at the empty sculpture garden, found the lighting to be perfect. The mix of sunlight , greenery, and shadows was just what I had hoped for,

At first glance I thought I saw an apparition of Honest Ed Mirvish on the pedestrian walkway, but on closer inspection I realized the figure was not wearing a suit. In all my times seeing Ed Mirvish when he was alive, he was always wearing a suit. The dress code at all his restaurants was suit and ties for gentlemen after all. After 68 years in business, the iconic Toronto bargain warehouse will close its doors forever December 31st.

when i teach meditation, i describe the practice as honest yet gentle. it's an honest look at whatever arises--no turning away from unpleasant discoveries. yet the practice is also gentle--again and again, with tenderness, return to the present moment.
this honest-yet-gentle mantra applies to most of life: stay open, see clearly, be true; and in that process, treat yourself and others with kindness.
