Hermit thrush ( Catharus guttatus ) 4-22-2020 Maple Grove Forest Preserve , Downers Grove, Illinois.
Very rare visitor here in WV. They do migrate through parts (though I've never seen one around here), but December seems a little early . . . Taken Christmas Day.

Thanks for Viewing.
Walking in the woods this afternoon we came upon a group of about 10 Hermit Thrush. It was hard to get an exact count because they were in constant motion chasing each other through the woods and across the path. I have always thought of thrushes as rather sedate and was very surprised to see them so active. Possibly they were a group of juveniles.
Hermit Thrush - Mooresville, North Carolina
This guy shows up to my feeders every winter. He showed up this week just in time for a big snow storm.
This is a better photography of the this species than the one I had previously posted. The previous post was Bird Species (# 137) that I photographed and placed on my Flickr Photostream. Overall goal is 1000.

We have a huge rain storm (actually several storms) on the way, and I know that the local birds in the mountains here usually lose interest in my "bird baths" after there is an abundant supply of "natural" water. So I did a photoshoot this morning at the basin of water that has been so popular with my local bird neighbors. The Hermit Thrush is my favorite! The Golden-crowned Sparrows are always special to see, also, and then there are the "usual suspects" aplenty!

This little guy was hunkered down in the rain yesterday. He was super cooperative as I walked around him looking for a decent shot.
This is the first hermit warbler I've photographed that doesn't appear to be a hermit/Townsend's hybrid.
Along a forest road southeast of Olympic NP.
Hermit Thrush is more often heard than seen (it has a beautiful flute-like song) but this individual was in full view and clearly showed the diagnostic rufous tail. It was on a trail near the Englishman River Estuary close to the city of Parksville on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
The long-billed hermit hummingbird (Phaethornis longirostris)is found from Mexico all the way to Peru. Found this one in the Boca Tapada area of Costa Rica, just a few kilometers from the Nicaragua border.
We came across a very obliging Hermit Warbler yesterday. A lot of great photo ops. We watched him catch the caterpillars underside the leaves and gobble them down. I'l add those shots in a later post. I was very pleased with the shots from yesterday.
So many hermit crabs around these rocks, I was careful not to step on them. This was such a long exposure I had to take it several times because he kept moving. Not to mention I was bracketing 3 exposures...
Migration is in full swing and this is one of the returning birds that I saw a few days ago.
Thank you for your views and comments, they're much appreciated! Have a great day and week!
