Built as a holiday villa in the 1930s for the then Italian Governor of Rhodes, Cesare Maria De Vecchi, it was abandoned in the 1940s but then renovated in the 1950s by KIng Pavlos. A 3 shot HDR of Banton Loch, near Kilsyth.

Per Wikipedia:

"Tudor Place is a Federal-style mansion in Washington, D.C. that was originally the home of Thomas Peter and his wife, Martha Parke Custis Peter, a granddaughter of Martha Washington.

Step-grandfather George Washington left her the $8,000 in his will that was used to purchase the property in 1805.

The property, comprising one city block on the crest of Georgetown Heights, had an excellent view of the Potomac River.

Tudor Place was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960. It is located at 1644 31st Street (NW) and is open to the public."

Dynamic Light for Mac

A long-tailed macaque having his tail pruned by a companion. This picture was taken during a boat trip along the Kinabatangan River in Sabah, Borneo.

An experiment with HDR.

Basically the same shot as two uploads previously, albeit cropped a bit, but also 'processed' through Photomatix software to give an HDR effect.

Not 'true' HDR though, as for that you need to take at least three identical photos using different exposures (tripod really essential even in broad daylight) and process them.

I've taken a major short-cut here and used just the 'RAW' file from my camera, created two other images from it in Photoshop (one over-exposed, the other under-exposed) and then merged them in Photomatix.

Quite a lot of faffing about, but looking at other contributors on Flickr who have mastered the art of HDR the results can be truly fantastic with the right image.

I'm not suggesting that this shot of BKE832T is the right image, but it was something to practice on!

HDR stands for High Dynamic Range imaging which was developed in the 1930s/1940s - the well known, detailed, photographs of nuclear explosions that appeared on the covers of Life magazine in the 1940s were among the first HDR images.

At its subtlest level HDR can bring out detail in what would otherwise be over-exposed and under-exposed areas of the same photograph, at its wildest level the colours become so bold as to create very weird images indeed.

The trick I think is in finding the balance between the two. I've a long way to go!
