Winter has not really arrived in Ostwestfalen (East-Westphalia / Northwest Germany) yet. Green is still dominant in the countryside, the sky is mainly grey. This Sunday the sun had a short intermezzo with a nice sunset.
These are the western lake district fells and this is the view I open my curtains to in the mornings, obviously not always this beautiful or this visible but today is a good day.

…at least up on the mountains. This spot isn’t particularly high up (2426 m a.s.l.), but it seems to draw bad weather. I’ve been there a few times and I know the place only with varying amounts of fog and snow. On the ridge ahead is the border between Switzerland and Italy, and the mountain pass just across the lake was used by smugglers as late as the 1970s.
Another brisk day, woke up to 0°F after a surprising full 8 hours of sleep (I normally average 6 1/2). I have to admit that as much as I dislike the cold I have become aware of the wonderful silence that accompanies it. People and their animals stay inside so there is very limited noise pollution from vehicles running, dogs barking, birds chirping, and even leaves rustling in the trees. It is stillness and silence and peace.
Oh, the tea is "pomegranate burst" green tea from Good Earth, it is one of my favorites! Also, the journal has returned since that was my goal this week to include it in every shot. My daughter and I have been drawing together for 30 minutes each morning before she goes to school. I have very limited drawing skills and hope that I will improve with practice if not, that's ok, I just love spending the creative time with my girlie.

ZIBSKA has created a beautiful set for the Driftwood event (05 Aug - 05 Sept) called Ruina which comes with a coral collar, schools of fish, and hooks. A hud is included to change the color and sizes of the pieces to your satisfaction. As Cleo has arthrosis she has to take two pills every day. Cleo and I have reached an agreement: she allows me to put the pills directly into her mouth without shredding my fingers and in return she gets some treats. This generally works very well but it only works with me. When my sister had to give her the pills once several adhesive bandages were required afterwards.
The weather has been unsettled in Calgary these last few days, so Larry and I went with my sister on walk through the downtown skywalks, called the Plus 15 system. This art is in one of the buildings along our route. There's actually quite a bit of art throughout the system, and I've called Calgary's Plus 15, at 18 km's, the longest art gallery in the world...

If you look at other frames from along the coast here (including one from last night) I don't think I've ever captured so many vehicles on the South Island's main road in one shot. There is a van with a trailer behind the coal containers too.
Matilija Poppy has been called the "Queen of California Flowers". Unique and distinct, it is one of the most recognized and beloved of California’s native plants. The large white blooms are the size of a saucer. The petals look like wrinkled crepe paper, the center is a bright yellow disk. Some have likened the flower to the appearance of a fried egg. A solitary bloom is a very fine thing, but a large stand of Matilija in full bloom is a sight to behold! Hundreds of huge white flowers borne at eye-level on long straight stems, contrasted by attractive blue-green foliage… a real show stopper in late spring/early summer!

Krujë. In the background the fortress. Kruje has Ottoman style influences seen in the alley with the old bazaar. Krujas old bazaar is well preserved, and is a very photogenic place, attracting quite some tourists. Nowadays it houses mainly souvenir shops with traditional Albanian costumes, musical instruments, old books and memorabilia from the Communist days.

The 3 photos in this series were taken at 3 different times. It seems the eagle has taken to these firs, and likes to perch at the very top. In the second shot, the eagle has bent its left wing forward to preen it better, thereby exposing more of its white tail feathers than we normally get to see!
Love has twists and turns. It's worth It.

salt lake The lake lies at an elevation of 4,718 m, and has a surface area of 1,870 square kilometres. It is the highest salt lake in the world, and largest salt lake in the Tibet Autonomous Region. However, it is not the largest salt lake in the Tibetan Plateau. That title belongs to KokoNor མཚོ་སྔོན་ མཚོ་ཁྲི ་ཤོར་རྒྱལ་མོ་ (almost twice the size of Namtso). Namtso has five uninhabited islands of reasonable size, in addition to one or two rocky outcrops. The islands have been used for spiritual retreat by pilgrims who walk over the lake's frozen surface at the end of winter, carrying their food with them. They spend the summer there, unable to return to shore again until the water freezes the following winter. Winter has arrived in New Mexico. Recent snowstorms had dumped a fair amount of snow in the higher elevations, as evidenced by the snow cover down to the foothills of the Jemez mountains. The bulk of the Jemez is obscured by that big fog bank that kept hanging around. In my opinion, the best light happens when when a storm is on its way out and the clouds break up. If you look carefully, you can make out the water tower of the Cochiti pueblo and parts of the Cochiti reservoir dam.
The sun has dropped beneath the horizon as NS local B63-18 highballs back to Kankakee at Missal, IL. A couple of classic Geeps toil over the rolling hills with several sand loads for market.

It has been raining and raining all day . Nature needs the rain but this kind of weather makes me sleepy which isn't great if you have to stay away and work. It doesn't help the cats (except Charlie) are comatose too. Taking photos is close to impossible under these conditions but as we haven't had much rain this summer I thought I should document the event.
