One of the challenges of getting older is that our parents get older too. Both of my parents are facing some pretty tough health issues at the moment. So I will be taking a few months off Flickr so I can fly home and spend some quality time with both and help out where I can.

See you all then!!

Mom has been gone a few years but she always grew peonys along the side yard. Recently, while in Kentucky they started blooming and this is one of them. I know she would be proud of her flowers!!!

So Mom, this one is for you!!! :-)

Yesterday there was six of these butterflies on the ivy, in the hedgerow of our garden.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by, your comments or criticism is very much appreciated, take care, stay safe and have a wonderful weekend !!

I've shot this scene before, but it was such a gorgeous first day of March (St David's Day), I did it again. Hillside close to Cardiff.

A nine frame panorama.

The 2017 has been a great and rich year for my photography and for my travels. Then, with one of my latest shots, I want to thank you all once more for following me and wish a Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to Everyone!!

See you soon, now is time to take a break and celebrate with my family.

Today the nature reserve has over 240 veteran trees – some of the oldest in the county – which have grown over several hundred years. These old trees support a huge range of wildlife as well as being historically and culturally significant in their own right. The trees grew in open spaces where they developed widely-spreading branches. They were often pollarded (branches harvested for small timber, cut at head height or above, out of the reach of grazing animals) and allowed to re-grow. Many of the trees on the reserve bear the signs of pollarding – particularly ancient beech, sweet chestnuts and oaks – and have spreading crowns typical of trees that have grown in open conditions.

Meet up with friend davidwall934 we did do social distancing, When we got there the woods were misty which added to the atmosphere of the place.

Many thanks for the visit everyone ! :)

It has always been my wish to photograph the secretive Sora head-on showing its laterally compressed body, which allows it to slip and weave easily through dense vegetation. However, seeing the Sora in the open is notoriously difficult.

I was justifiably excited when I spotted this Sora walking cautiously along the path. And when it turned and looked straight into the lens for a brief instant, the angle, light and position were just right, as seen in this picture. Luck!

I am glad that I was ready and took advantage of that opportunity.

Immortality

by Lindsay Laurie

Mortal are us human kind

seeking peace with baited breath.

Immortality imparts the mind

to believe there is no death.

Immortality is really history …

writings from the then times wealth.

Replayed in a similar mode

as history repeats itself.

Each tiny fraction of the puzzle,

is ancient generations text,

leads the way to consider

what right now is needed next …

Each year reaches new horizons,

the past has been addressed -

and we live our life believing,

our time is the very best.

Windsor, Ontario has a wonderful riverfront view of Detroit, Michigan. The two cities share the Detroit River, which serves as the international border between Canada and the United States. Two of my favourite subjects to photograph along the river are the Detroit skyline, and this old water pumping station on the Windsor side of the river. Built at the beginning of the 20th century, this old structure is an example architecturally of a much different time, compared to the buildings along Detroit’s riverfront.

Buildings of the business district "Red Hills". The construction took more than ten years; as a result, a business center, concert halls, a five-star hotel appeared here.

Moscow International House of Music (building on the right) is a modern center for the performing arts, which has no analogues in Russia. This is an independent production association that organizes performances by Russian and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, instrumental soloists, opera and ballet artists, theater, jazz, pop and folk groups.

The dome of the House of Music is crowned with an emblem in the form of a treble clef-vane 9.5 meters high; by Zurab Tsereteli. The most complicated roller mechanism allows such a heavy construction to rotate according to the principle of a weather vane. It is intended for concerts of classical and popular music; as well as major festivals and competitions. The hall is lined with Siberian larch; considered the best “acoustic” tree in the world.

It has been set ablaze and now things are close to getting out of control. Hard to put out the fire if you get there too late.

Smile on Saturday

The year has gone so fast (at least for me) and now as autumn sets in, I start to miss spring when all the blossoms are out and the freshness of a new season is so exhilarating. I came across this in all my photos and dedicate it to my favorite season gone too soon! Thanks for your faves and comments!

In memoriam: Scooby Of The Stallions Stable (25-09-2006 / 25-06-2016)

So, this shot has been sitting on my hard drive since I took it back in January 2017, I loved the fractured reflection and the sort of dark, surreal alternate reality it conveyed with golden glitter and distorted classic architecture. It's as if the building is saying, "Look at me" but it's not real, it's a distortion of reality taken from the surrounding buildings. Take away the reflection and it's dark building that struggles to convey power and strength, a false power and strength but alluring all the same. So it's with this in mind that it never got posted.

I decided to post it today because of some factors that seem to have come together. One is the obvious end of a four year nightmare and one has to do with me just missing a good walk in the city due to COVID. I've been looking through my archive folders at city pics that never were posted and thinking now is the time. Along this line, I was conversing with Leon, a new contact here on Flickr and was a bit surprised to find that he hadn't seen any architectural shots in my photostream. The reason goes back to not being able to get to NYC or any city for that matter since COVID started so not much architectural or travel photography in quite some time.

With this in mind it seems the time is right to post this shot.

Morning has broken like the first morning

Blackbird has spoken like the first bird

Praise for the singing

Praise for the morning

Praise for them springing fresh from the world

Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven

Like the first dew fall on the first grass

Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden

Sprung in completeness where His feet pass

Mine is the sunlight

Mine is the morning

Born of the one light Eden saw play

Praise with elation, praise every morning

God's recreation of the new day

Morning has broken like the first morning

Praise for the singing

Praise for the morning

Praise for them springing fresh from the world

My husband has enjoyed MacroMondays for as many years as I have. He asks the theme and then heads for his computer man cave or garage work space and brings me little tools.

This is a grouping of something called round stock in metric sizes with a twine wrap to keep them together. When in a tight circle they measure about 1 inch/ 2.54cm, but I couldn't quite figure out how to stand them to capture that tight circle. Someday...

Many thanks for looking and for commenting!

Note: the tree planters have arrived! More trees; back in a moment.

Winter has shown up in our area now with temperatures below zero, frozen lakes and beautiful sunshine. Compared tor the last months with rain, clouds and shades of grey this is a significant improvement. Dear winter, we love you. But please do not stay too long and give way to spring. Hücker Moor, Ostwestfalen, Germany

Over the howe, on the far hillside, the winter sun rises behind this stand of trees. If I catch it at just the right moment a cloud of birds rise up together from their nests. I caught just a couple of stragglers this morning.
