DCist Photo of the Day for May 2, 2013
Signs inside Crown Fried Chicken located at 716 H Street, N.E., in the Near Northeast neighborhood (H Street corridor) of Washington, D.C.
My better half wanted some fried chicken; myself, being a country boy from eastern North Carolina, wanted some collard greens. I asked one of the many people loitering outside Crown if they knew the best place to get collard greens. FUN FACT: collard greens is apparently slang for weed, or is it crack? The woman I had asked began telling everyone within earshot that I was a cop and to stay away from me. The cashier at Crown told me I should have said greens, sans collard. Good times on H Street NE!
On a related note, I wonder if Crown offers an eight ball piece dinner?

The kitchen of the farmhouse I grew up in was painted that same mint green color.

Frankfurt (Frankfurt am Main) is the most populous city in the German state of Hesse. The city is the heart of the larger Rhine-Main metropolitan region, which has a population of more than 5.8 million and is Germany's second-largest metropolitan region. In addition, the station district of Frankfurt is home to this gumball machine.
I am teaching in Whitman, MA on Sept 23 and 24. We are going to make trophies from ordinary "junk". This assemblage contains a dollar store gumball machine, an old teapot, a picture holder, broken jewelry, a watch band, shells, pipette tips, glass beads, game pieces, and googly eyes.
Yes, the gumball machine still works!
These were sitting next to the door of the Village Shell gas station in Mansfield, Illinois.
Check out the rest of the set: Village Shell
there is much on this shelf, but mostly homies series 1 through 10, lego figures and smorkin mongers and some qees etc etc
Two treats in one! The base of the gumball machine is made from two cupcakes stacked on top of each other and the top is filled with real gumballs.
Who doesn't love 50% off valentine's day candy?
This was the night I spent out to dinner & hanging out with Alicia, and by the time I got home, it was late and I was at a total loss for something to take a picture of. Luckily, dark chocolate peanut m&m's were there for me.

sixties-era vending machine display of critters. The back of the card claims that they're made in the U.S.A., but I have my doubts.

After years of freelance work to "pay the bills", I've decided to go back to university. That's right! I'm going for a MPS in Art Therapy. I'm shooting for Pratt Institute. For more information on the program: www.pratt.edu/creative_arts_therapy
My concentration will be on children. More specifically, those most in need. Those who've suffered the most terribly ---> in other words, the socio & economically disadvantaged, those sexually, emotionally and/or physically abused, the neglected & the abandoned children, as well as children diagnosed with Autism.
BUT, since the economy's in such a pickle, cash is short & transitioning into the world of non-profit (from an art's background) has proved more difficult than anticipated, I applied to AmeriCorps. Some benefits include: a living stipend, a relocation allowance, an end-of-year Education Award, health insurance & more.
Wishing to work specifically with First People's, I applied & have been accepted to work in the national offices of the National Society for American Indian Elderly (NSAIE), in phoenix, AZ. Among other things, I'll be working on an Elder Heritage Preservation Project. Time Period: July '09 - Julyt '10. Now, if I could just get this room rented out in the loft! For more information on NSAIE, visit them here: www.nsaie.org/ . For more information on AmeriCorps, check them out here: www.nsaie.org/americorps.htm
Let me know what you think --->
Upon completion of the AmeriCorps program, my intentions are to return to NYC to get started on earning that Master's in Art Therapy. In the meantime, I MUST FIRST take 19 additional undergraduate courses which will qualify my eligibility to apply. I WILL get in!
I firmly believe that together we CAN make a difference.
Thanks, in advance!

Tricky to pronounce Swedish word of the day if you don't speak the local lingo. Tuggummiautomat. Gumball machine. Even trickier with your mouth filled with bubble gum of course. I made a pit stop at my barber's place today. The saloon is called Olympiasalongen and can be found at Åbyplan in Västerhaninge. The barber is Mikael Lindström, who took over the saloon after his dad retired many years ago now. I have cut my hair here since the mid 1980s. Mikael have remodelled the place to look like a 1950s barber shop, and there's always something new (or vintage), to check out, and today it was this gumball machine.
