Maybe there weren't enough customers among the approximately 4000 inhabitants of Güsten for this beautiful Gumball Machine. Now it is just an empty shell.

I'm a fan of inkdesigner's excellent tofu mother and child photos and I've always wanted to try the pose with my bears :)
Second Best "52 Weeks Project"
Since I have been joining the 52 Weeks Project on Flickr it has happened several times that I had to chose between two or more self portraits that week. A difficult choice. The solution is to create a set of all good alternatives. Life is full of choices and sometimes a week has too much opportunities. This is one of those alternatives, the second best. And sometimes just as good.
In 2020 I started to hunt for the tremendous street art work of Streetart Frankey...
Location: Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat, Amsterdam Centrum (NL)

Reason: In total I found 73 of his work since I started to search for the work of Streetart Frankey.
Streetart Frankey: Frankey Street Art is giving the city little often unremarkable surprises. Every week a photo with one of his recent works appears in the supplement to the newspaper Het Parool. A great opportunity to take a closer look at his work. Sometimes you have to search to find it and sometimes it is already gone.
Street Art Frankey (pseudonym of Frank de Ruwe) is a Dutch artist who wants to positively influence the street scene with relatively small and often inconspicuous works of art.
He grew up in Nijmegen, father was an inventor at Philips Netherlands. He studied at Delft University of Technology (Industrial design). In daily life director of and working for design collective Natwerk. In Amsterdam, many of his works in the street art category can be found on buildings, streets and bridges, often in addition to existing building elements. He himself about his work;
"I want to push boundaries. Art has no boundaries, that's why I like it so much."
In 2019, a special page has been dedicated to his art in Het Parool for a number of years; first he took care of that section himself, later he had to leave that work to others because of busy work. A little later his work Eberhard van der Laan appeared above the entrance of Paradiso.
One of the works that inspired him is the Boomzagertje in the Leidsebosje, a work by an as yet unknown artist.

This is the tobacco shop of Chester Field, the little neighbor to Miss Clementine's Green Grocer.
It sells tobacco products, newspapers and magazines and some office supplies. And there's a gumballmachine outside.
At the back, one of Chester Field's trusted suppliers; Ziggy Rett, is about to unload a boatload of new merchandise straight into the cellar of the shop.
“Manitou,” a Native American word for “ great spirit,” describes this beautiful mountain community. Eight naturally carbonated mineral spring fountains, located throughout this historic town, run free for all who wish to enjoy their healing benefits. The Ute, Cheyenne and other Native Americans considered this area sacred for its healing springs and clean mountain air.
The naturally occurring mineral springs have a rich history of giving and restoring health to people who traveled thousands of miles to be healed by the magical waters. Today, health and wellness continues to be a draw for residents and visitors who come to the area for its unparalleled quality of life and holistic, spiritually uplifting personality.
Two treats in one! The base of the gumball machine is made from two cupcakes stacked on top of each other and the top is filled with real gumballs.
Today is actually our second snow day here in SE Michigan; I meant to do this shot (or one like it) last year around this time, but my oldest had lost "Day". We discovered these little guys (the Bok Choy Boys) several years ago in a gumball machine (my daughters became collectors); the Boys each feature a different symbol on the back of their heads, the blue Boy a snowflake and the orange Boy making snow angels the sun, and a Kanji character on their foreheads to match their symbol. Over the summer we found Day; and, so, here you have: Snow Day, in celebration of our second in a row.
Still kinda hectic here. The appartment is more or less completely furnished/arranged but work and school are also some time-consuming bitches.
That's why photography falls a little bit behind. Nevertheless I somehow managed to take a few pics of my awesome appartment and that's one of 'em. Enjoy the weekend.

So, today I found a Disney Store Pocahontas doll (which I'm not sure why I bought, since I'm not a fan of large headed Disney dolls), a Cleo de Nile doll (missing her arms) and a Liv doll. I plan to transplant Cleo's head on the Liv body for a hybrid doll! Also found was a doll scale Olaf (!!!)
Other finds were a gumball machine toy, a chair, a Dalmation pup and a seriously cool neckpiece!
Make Mine a Dubble
Oh come on. If they didn't want us to do this, then they wouldn't make the cap so easy to twist off and the coin bank so hard to undo.
Now, let's turn the knob (or reach right in) and see which cliches come out...
- It's a bubble gum dispenser. Need I say more
- Finding a new angle for a well-worn cliche
- Cloning in an extra piece just because I felt like it...and Dubble Bubble should be exponential
- Nostalgic brands that stand the test of time (which is more than I can say for the flavour...these really only seem to be good for about 5 chews!)
Happy Cliche Saturday! There are some days when a simple smile and a comforting dose of the familiar goes a long way.
