a moment of a dog's life guarding his master's business

Guard Owl, sheltered in place, still vigilant, waiting for Spring weather.

And they said 'less than an inch'. I beg to differ. It's probably closer to 2 inches.

Carved into one of the stones on Bride Stones Moor, above the town of Todmorden, the inscription reads:-

HOME GUARD

1940-1945

The 21st (Calder Valley) Battalion, West Riding Home Guard had their headquarters in Sowerby Bridge. They were affiliated to the Duke of Wellingtons Regiment whose cap badge they wore. The Battalion was formed in May 1940 by the redesignation of the Local Defence Volunteer company. It was made up of men in reserved occupations, also those under or over the age to serve in the armed forces. They wore an army style khaki uniform and were equipped with a few rifles.

Now it’s not a million miles from Sowerby Bridge to Todmorden, just short of 11 in total, but still, I’ve no idea what one or more of them were doing up here adding their details to one of the Bridestones.

Thank you for your visit and your comments, they are greatly appreciated.

methinks this is meant to be a turtle and it is another one of the stone sculptures in the yard with the stony faced man (see the first comment box)

Due to budget cuts, that ex 'Hawkeye' AEW APS-125 radar dish modification on the C-130H Hercules, never made it in to production as the USCG terminated the program but here the USAF were evaluating the system which eventually passed onto the US Navy at Patuxent River for the Grumman Hawkeye 2000 program evaluation.

That time of the day when it's simply too hot to guard. So he had a little lie down at this gift stall in Petra :)

My first photo to reach 1000 views (July '07).

A lone guard in front of the huge picture of Mao at Tiananmen.

I like how the straight lines complement the guard's posture.

This is the fourth photo of him I have uploaded. The others are here, here and here.

What a odd job to stand there for hours at a time. Just like the guards at Buckingham Palace.

Reached position 46 on Explore for 18th January 2007.
