Love it when my soles end up looking like this :)

Rituals have a way of grounding me. I start the day with a big glass of water and a squeeze of lemon. Cool in the hot months and warm in the winter. Breakfast comes later as I'm a very early riser. I like the sound of the filter coffee machine as it prepares my morning breakfast drink, served in my favourite mug!

After breakfast, I love the ritual of making my bed and marvel at the play of light and shadows shining through the slits in the blinds. I love to smooth the sheets and cotton blanket and see the dappled sunlight illuminate my polka-dot cover.

Making homemade bread used to be a twice weekly ritual, it helped me through difficult times as it brought a sense of normality and reassuring repetition to my life. These days, I bake bread when I'm in the mood!

Natural tough soles after 3 days barefoot!

Seen here grounded at Tenerife South airport April 2019 due to the on-going issues with the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

March 2019 saw the grounding worldwide of all Boeing 737 MAX 8 series aircraft after 2 separate crashes in five months - an Ethiopian Airlines on March 10th 2019 and Lion Air back in October 2018 sadly killing everybody on board both flights.

After the Ethiopian Airlines fatality back on March 10th 2019, this then saw airlines starting to ground their B737 MAX 8 fleets until eventually Boeing announced there would then be a worldwide grounding of all versions of the aircraft.

TUI Airways (G-TUMF) B737 MAX 8 aircraft seen here grounded at Tenerife South airport (TFS) had its last operational flight back on March 12th 2019 operating the service 'BY2202' from Manchester Airport.

Norwegian Airlines (EI-FYI) B737 MAX 8 aircraft seen here grounded at Tenerife South airport (TFS) had its last operational flight back on March 12th 2019 operating the service 'D8510' from Helsinki.

On Tuesday 16th April 2019, an FAA ( Federal Aviation Administration) panel has said that after a review of the an update by Boeing to the B737 MAX 8 aircraft software, it is now operationally suitable. It will be interesting to see what will now happen going forward.

Our Daily Challenge - theme: "Ground or grounding"

This school year, weekdays are spent caring for two of my beautiful GrandChildren. This is Miss Rosie. <3

Preserved steam locomotive, Class 7, 70013 Oliver Cromwell is making its way to the Great Central Way Railway Quorn station.

Grounding out happens quite often at this location looking the number of scrapes and grooves in the tarmac.

"On 3 March 2018, 70013 hauled its final main line charter from Ealing Broadway to York via the Midland Main Line prior to the expiry of its boiler certificate. It was last steamed at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway on 11 March 2018 before moving to the GCR for storage."

SN/NC: Portulaca Grandiflora, Portulacaceae Family

A beautiful pair of portulacas accompanying the pink, orange, yellow and wine colours -- also in the street as grounding plant carpet for the taller plants. But always nice, delicate, so beautiful -- and can still be used in salads (edible) and also medicinal (intestines problems). A truly beautiful low growing ground cover type plant is called the portulaca (Portulaca grandiflora), or sometimes known as the sun rose or moss rose. Portulaca plants are native to Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay. Portulaca flowers are easy to grow and enjoy.

Avro Vulcan B2

CN Set 12

G-VLCN / XH558

Avro Vulcan XH558 (military serial XH558, civil aircraft registration G-VLCN) The Spirit Of Great Britain is the only airworthy example of the 134 Avro Vulcan jet powered delta winged strategic nuclear bomber aircraft operated by the Royal Air Force during the Cold War.

Vulcan XH558 first flew in 1960, and was one of the few examples converted for a maritime reconnaissance role in 1973, and then again as an air-to-air refuelling tanker in 1982. After withdrawal in 1984 it continued with the RAF's Vulcan Display Flight, performing until 1992.[1] In 1993 it was sold to the Walton family who used it for ground based displays at their Bruntingthorpe Aerodrome in Leicestershire, until 1999. Through a combination of public donations and lottery funding, it was restored to airworthy condition by the Vulcan To The Sky Trust, who returned it to flight on 18 October 2007. The donations required to reach that point totaled £6.5m.

It recommenced its display career in 2008, funded by continuing donations to assist the £2m a year running costs. In the summers from 2008 to 2010 it was based at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, moving its winter base to RAF Lyneham, Wiltshire at the end of 2009. From 2011 it moved to a new year round base at the commercial Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield. The prospect of grounding & sale due to lack of funds was regularly averted, and XH558 flew long enough for fundamental engineering life-expectancy issues to become the main threat to continued operation. After being overcome once to gain an extra two years flight, on 15 May 2015 it was confirmed that 2015 would be XH558's last flying season, due to it having flown 10% longer than any other Vulcan.

Ever since the US Federal Aviation Administration lifted the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX in December 2020 after prolonged testing and recertification, numerous countries have also began lifting the restrictions allowing the aircraft to fly in commercial service with the necessary modifications in place.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority and the European Aviation Standards Authority both lifted the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX on 27th January 2021, with the affected aircraft having software updates to MCAS, pilots undergo further training and rewiring of avionics.

TUI fly Belgium became the first European carrier to operate the Boeing 737 MAX since the grounding was lifted on 17th February 2021, and their reintroduction has been steady with little incident.

TUI Airways began reintroducing the majority of its Boeing 737 MAX fleet during July 2021 as the UK began easing restrictions to international destinations, which has been constantly changing. The carrier has been concentrating their MAX's from their bigger bases such as Birmingham, London Gatwick and Manchester.

Currently, TUI Airways operates 46 Boeing 737s, which includes 31 Boeing 737-800s (one currently in storage) and 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8s. TUI Airways have 2 Boeing 737-800s, one Boeing 737 MAX 8 and 14 Boeing 737 MAX 10s on-order.

Tango Uniform Mike Tango is one of 15 Boeing 737 MAX 8s in service with TUI Airways, delivered new to TUIfly Nordic as SE-RNB on 28th December 2018 and later leased from SMBC in January 2019. She was placed into storage at Stockholm-Arlanda following the two fatal accidents involving the Boeing 737 MAX on 12th March 2019 to 3rd May 2021 where she was positioned to Brussels for re-entry into service and was duly re-registered for TUI Airways as G-TUMT on 4th June 2021 and finally re-entered service on 24th July 2021. She is powered by CFM LEAP-1B27 engines.

Grounded United aircraft

The past 3 years have not been kind to Boeing, the aircraft manufacturer coming under intense scrutiny following the Boeing 737 MAX groundings and quality control concerns and defects from their Boeing 787 manufacturing facility at Charleston, South Carolina which has lead the US aviation regulator, the Federal Aviation Authority to revoke Boeing's ability to self certify brand new Dreamliners, with it well over a year since the last new delivery.

There is certainly light at the end of the tunnel as the FAA is to approve Boeing's resumption of 787 deliveries following scrutiny of their proposed modification and inspection programme. Prior to resumption, a large portion of Boeing 787s have been built but placed into storage mainly at Victorville, California where Boeing has a maintenance facility, as well as in Charleston, South Carolina and Everett, Washington.

American Airlines in particular has been largely affected by the delayed deliveries as most of its long-haul expansion programme had been largely reliant on the Boeing 787, and the withdrawal of their ageing Boeing 777-200ER fleet put on hold. Following on from the FAA approval to restart deliveries in August 2022, American is expected to be the first carrier to receive their first example and are expected to take delivery of as much as 9 examples in 2022 alone.

Restarting deliveries will come as a sigh of relief for Boeing, albeit the company has had to payout large sums of compensation to airlines for late deliveries.

Currently, American Airlines operates 46 Boeing 787s, which includes 24 Boeing 787-8s and 22 Boeing 787-9s. American Airlines have 12 Boeing 787-8s and 20 Boeing 787-9s on-order.

November Eight Three One Alpha Alpha is one of 22 Boeing 787-9s operated by American Airlines, delivered new to the carrier on 5th October 2017 and she is powered by 2 General Electric GEnx-1B engines.

Gross National Happiness

The Bhutanese grounding in Buddhist ideals suggests that beneficial development of human society takes place when material and spiritual development occur side by side to complement and reinforce each other. The term "gross national happiness", a concept of a quantitative measurement of well-being and happiness, was coined in 1972 by Bhutan's fourth Dragon King, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who has opened Bhutan to the age of modernization. The four pillars of gross national happiness are the promotion of sustainable development, preservation and promotion of cultural values, conservation of the natural environment, and establishment of good governance.

In a 2007 study from University of Leicester, Bhutan ranked eighth out of 178 countries in Subjective Well-Being, a metric of happiness that has been used by many psychologists. In fact, it is the only country in the top 20 "happiest" countries that has a very low GDP.

The Mask Culture Of Bhutan

The performance of mask dance is a deeply spiritual affair in Bhutan. Dancers wear masks which may represent fearsome male or female protective deities, animals, skulls, saints and sages, and legendary personages like the manifestations of Guru Rinpoche or just plain human beings.

In Bhutan, mask dances are numerous and have different names according to their types. In few important dzongs, two festivals take place every year: Dromchhoe, which is dedicated to Mahakala (Yeshe Goenpo) and Mahakali (Palden Lhamo) - Bhutan’s two principle protective deities and a Tshechu, the best known and most popular, that is dedicated to Guru.

Both the religious and secular dances prevalent in Bhutan have originated from Buddhism. Beside entertaining people, the dance performances reaffirm the devotion and commitment of human beings to leading morally sound and honest lives. At supreme or ultimate level, it is a spiritual exercise and helps human beings to acquire spiritual merit which serves as the cause for liberation from the earthly woes and gain final enlightenment.

I chose this photo for grounding because even though my feet were planted, I tend to find my grounding in my breath. I feel calm and centered when I listen to and truly tune into my breath.

NASA image acquired February 5, 2012

A record-breaking snowstorm struck Colorado in early February 2012, closing an interstate highway, grounding flights, and dropping more than a foot of snow on the Denver area. After moving out of northeastern Colorado, the storm left heavy snow across Nebraska.

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image on February 5, after skies had largely cleared over the region. Snow and mountain peaks create a mottled appearance in western Colorado. Elsewhere, the snow cover forms a wide, uneven track over parts of Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska.

This snowfall did not break all-time records in Colorado, but it did break records for the month of February. The National Weather Service explained that northeastern Colorado generally experiences storms of this magnitude in March or April, and the February storm showed some of the same characteristics of powerful spring storms, including a system from the Pacific Northwest converging with moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. The storm set a new record for the heaviest storm snowfall for February, depositing 15.9 inches (40.4 centimeters) in Denver, and 22.7 inches (57.7 centimeters) in Boulder.

Colorado ski resorts welcomed the precipitation after suffering from below-normal snow cover so far in the 2011–2012 ski season, but the new snow raised the risk of avalanches. As of February 6, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center reported “considerable” avalanche danger across much of the state.

Heavy snow was not limited to Colorado. The National Weather Service reported up to 18 inches (46 centimeters) of snow west of Omaha, Nebraska.

Valentine & Sons of Dundee were Scotland’s most successful commercial photographers. In the early 1900s, at the height of the postcard craze, they published cards showing scenes from a number of countries, including the U.K., Canada, Australia, South Africa and the United States of America.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Princess May was a steamship built in 1888 which was operated under a number of different names and owners. The ship is best known for having been involved in a grounding in 1910 which left the ship jutting completely out of the water, which became the subject of a famous shipwreck photograph.

This ship, although it served under other names, is best known as the Princess May. The Canadian Pacific had a fleet of ocean-going ships with names beginning with “Empress". It was decided that the planned fleet of coastal liners (which in 1901 did not yet exist) would have names beginning with “Princess.” Princess May was named after Mary of Teck, who was known as “May”. Later Princess ships were not named after actual princesses, however.

In 1901, the newly formed Canadian Pacific Railway Coast Service, operating in British Columbia under superintendent James W. Troup, wanted a steamship to meet the high demand for traffic on the route to southeastern Alaska, but did not want to wait for a year or more to build a new ship. Cass, by then operating under the name Hating (or Ha-Ting), was available. The Coast Service purchased Hating, and in May, 1901, under the command of Capt. A.O. Cooper, brought it across the Pacific to the west coast of Canada. Princess May was the first ship acquired by then-newly formed Canadian Pacific Railway Coast Service.

Beginning on 27 May 1901, Princess May was placed on the 800-mile (1,300 km) route from Vancouver, British Columbia along the British Columbia coast to Skagway, Alaska, running on alternate weeks with Islander. At this time, the demand for fast travel to Skagway was high, and steamships, including Princess May competed with each other to see which could first reach the port.

In 1906 the superstructure was rebuilt and the passenger accommodations were enlarged and improved. In 1907, May ran in alternate weeks with the newly completed Princess Royal. These ships served the many small mining, fishing and lumber settlements along the coast.

On 5 August 1910, Princess May, having departed from Skagway under the command of Captain MacLeod with 80 passengers, 68 crew, and a shipment of gold, was proceeding south down Lynn Canal in heavy fog. At a speed of about 10 knots (19 km/h), the ship ran aground on rocks near the north end of Sentinel Island, where there was a United States lighthouse station. It was high tide (the tidal range being about 16 feet at this point) and the momentum of the ship forced it well up onto the rocks, with the bow jutting upward at an angle of 23 degrees. This produced a number of photographs of the ship's predicament which were sold all over the west coast.

The engine rooms were flooded, and the ship could not move on its own. To remove Princess May from the rocks, the ship's owners hired Capt. W.H. Logan and the Seattle-based salvage tug Santa Cruz, as well as the William Jolliffe, one of the most powerful tugs on the British Columbia coast. Temporary shipways were built and rocks were blasted, and after several previous attempts failed, on 3 September 1910, the salvors were able to refloat the ship and tow it to port. This was the 32nd time that Captain Logan had successfully salvaged a ship. The cost of the salvage and the subsequent repair was $115,000.

In 1911, while undergoing repairs from the Sentinel Island stranding, Princess May was converted from coal to oil fuel. The ship was the first of the Princess fleet to be so converted. Oil-fueled boilers had many advantages. In 1919 the ship was sold to the Princess May (Steam ship) Company and transferred to the Caribbean. In the early 1930s the ship was deliberately sunk.

This TUI Airways B737 MAX 8 aircraft seen here grounded at Tenerife South airport (TFS) had its last operational flight back on March 12th 2019 operating the service 'BY2202' from Manchester Airport.

On Tuesday 16th April 2019, an FAA ( Federal Aviation Administration) panel has said that after a review of the an update by Boeing to the B737 MAX 8 aircraft software, it is now operationally suitable. It will be interesting to see what will now happen going forward.
