Ancient Stone, Endless Sky

The Milky Way stretches across the night above a deep gorge in Parc national des Hautes-Gorges-de-la-Rivière-Malbaie, Québec. Steep cliffs and a narrow valley, combined with minimal light pollution, create a rare vantage to witness the galaxy with extraordinary clarity.

Under just 2% moon illumination and a pristine Bortle 2 sky, billions of distant stars and dense star clouds appear vividly, their faint light traveling across the cosmos before reaching this remote northern wilderness. The ancient stone cliffs stand silent below, grounding the vast expanse above, while the Milky Way flows like a luminous river through the dark sky.

Here, the meeting of timeless geology and celestial wonder reminds us how small we are, yet intimately connected to the universe.

In a world where AI feeds our desire for instant gratification as soon as we have a thought or need, it is grounding and humbling to walk in a place that is impervious to the wishes of man. Created by time and the most natural of elements, water and earth, a beauty emerges that is wondrous in its impossibility. Man's interference is not welcome or wanted here. Here patience is respected. The Navajo understood the sacredness of this space, knowing that there are things larger and greater than themselves.

Petra is a name with a long history and great popularity in the world. The name Petra comes from Greek and means "rock". It was often used in ancient times as a nickname for women who were strong and independent.

The name Petra comes from Greek and means "rock". Therefore, stones that are associated with strength, steadfastness and grounding fit well with the name Petra.

Tell me, where does your name come from?

The row of four small cottages on Llanddwyn Island was built for the pilots who helped boats navigate into the ports along the Menai Strait. This narrow channel dividing Anglesey from the Welsh mainland posed a threat of grounding on sand banks to the boats calling mainly at the ports of Caernarfon, Y Felinheli and Bangor to collect the fine roofing slate produced in the hills of North Wales. As well as guiding commercial shipping, the pilots crewed the Llanddwyn lifeboat until its wathdrawal from service in 1903.

In music, an ostinato is a motif that persists through repetition within a single voice. Here, that voice is continuity.

The landscape is reduced to its most rhythmic elements: the white silence of snow and the dark punctuation of a moving line. The birds are no longer read as individuals, but as notes—spaced by cadence rather than intent.

Emerging from fog and dissolving back into white, the procession suggests a movement without beginning or resolution. It functions as a visual drone: steady, grounding, and unresolved, anchoring the stillness of the winter field.

Europe, Netherlands, Zuid Limburg, Maastricht, Plateau van Caestert, Sint Pietersberg, ENCI lime stone quarry - clinker factory (slightly cut from L, B &T)

The former cement and clinker factory of the ENCI quarry is shown here, together with its giant smokestack on the left.

Clinker, semi-finished cement, was produced by “heating limestone (calcium carbonate) with small quantities of other materials (such as clay) to 1450 °C in a kiln, in a process known as calcination”. Cement, the finished product, “is made by grounding the clinker with a small amount of gypsum into a powder to make 'Ordinary Portland Cement', the most commonly used type of cement (often referred to as OPC). Portland cement is a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar and most non-speciality grout. Portland cement may be grey or white.

The quarry, kiln and factory were closed in 2018 and are slated for demolition. After that the quarry and demolished part of the industrial complex will be redeveloped as a park. A small part of the quarry is already accessible via a spectacular access stairway, which was created in 2019.

The last months have been a bit challenging personally, and I honestly didn’t realize how much I needed mornings like these until I was standing out on the coast again.

Quiet spring light, smooth granite shaped by water, and the feeling of slowly reconnecting with both nature and creativity.

Thid first image from recent outings around the Oslofjord reflect a familiar theme in my work, flow, shapes, texture, and the small details carved over time. But this trip felt different somehow. More meaningful. More calming.

Creating again after a difficult period felt both grounding and fulfilling, and I’m looking forward to sharing more from these spring mornings in the weeks ahead.

Being aware of the magic of colors is quite important

We tend to use the colors we need for the mood we are in

This red will boost you and give you power, so if you need to do stuff, wear this color or have a glimpse at this image during your day

Magic happens

You don't even have to believe it

And in addition it will give you a grounding to Mother Nature

Lol

There is always something else too, isn't there

If you are wearing black, then you might need a time out for yourself, being invisible

It works too

Shown here is the Maas edge of ENCI marl (lime stone) quarry and clinker (semi- finished cement) factory. The cement was shipped from here.

About clinker: Clinker, semi-finished cement, was produced by “heating limestone (calcium carbonate) with small quantities of other materials (such as clay) to 1450 °C in a kiln, in a process known as calcination”. Cement, the finished product, “is made by grounding the clinker with a small amount of gypsum and other additives into a powder to make 'Ordinary Portland Cement', the most commonly used type of cement (often referred to as OPC).

Portland cement is a basic ingredient of concrete, mortar and most non-speciality grout. Portland cement cany be grey or white.

The quarry, kiln and factory were closed in 2018 and are slated for demolition. After that the quarry and demolished part of the industrial complex will be redeveloped as a park. A small part of the quarry is already accessible via a spectacular access stairway, which was created in 2019.

The reason why the ENCI ceded its operations in Zuid Limburg had to do with environmental problems: the dehydration of the Jeker valley by pumping large amounts of groundwater from the quarry, the Pietersberg was too radically eaten away and also because of the stench and the dust of the factory. Its fuel consisted for a part of waste of the meat industry (grounded bones, cartilage and dried blood) and to the clinker, sludge from sewage treatment plants and material from household waste processing was added.

The end of quarrying and clinker production resulted from the decades-long struggle of residents and environmental campaigners against ENCI. Although ENCI's excavation permit expired on 31 December 2009, it was renewed for the last time and only until 2018.

This is number 10 of the ENCI album and 49 of Maastricht.

For decades Augustine searched for God where God cannot be found—outside himself in conquest, career, and ambition. Only when God casts him into sleep (Gen 2:21) does something immensely creative happen. Augustine awakes in God and beholds what only the inner eye can behold: the traces of God as luminous vastness. As we journey toward the God who causes us to seek, may we discover our own grounding silence and awake in God who has found us from all eternity.

There’s something so grounding about architecture that has watched the centuries pass. From the weathered stone of the towers to the calm waters of the pond, this view is a masterclass in elegance and history. ✨

Walking through these grounds feels like stepping into the pages of a classic novel. If these walls could talk, imagine the stories they’d tell. Perfect afternoon for a stroll and a little daydreaming. 📖🌿

Karsha Gompa clings to the mountain like a natural extension of the cliffside. These structures were built in high, inaccessible reaches for both protection and perspective. Historically, the elevation provided a defensive advantage, but spiritually, it offers an unobstructed view of the impermanence of the world below. From this height, the monks watch the seasons shift across the valley, grounding their daily rituals in the vast, unchanging rhythms of the earth.

This boat was blown up against the shore, grounding it, during a wind storm that lasted about 3 days in December. How it got there is a bit of a mystery. There was no motor (note the empty outboard bracket), and the sails were more or less furled. The boat was located less than 100m from a yacht club, so likely it is one of theirs, but all their boats are on the hard. I went back a week or so later and she was gone.

As I journey back home, I always glance across to my left at one of my favourite little vistas and think how lucky I am to see this everyday. I am always alone and feel it is quite a grounding experience.

During the month of February my travels will often bring me past as the sun is setting, which happen to make the scene even more special...

The Mig 15 and the American F-86 look very much alike but are wildly different in design, one of which being that the American fighter did not have a diverter in the nose of the aircraft, just a gaping maw sucking air into the hungry turbine in the rear of the jet. What's that? Why yes, someone was sucked into one of these, one Airman Third Class Fred E. Higinbotham was attempting to plug in the grounding cable somewhere near the nose wheel of a running plane when his hat was sucked off his head and into the intake. By instinct, he reached for the cap and quickly followed it in. Conflicting stories say that the airman was able to arrest himself six inches from disaster until the pilot shut down the engine, the investigators claim that the cable wrapped itself around his legs and held him just short. Either way, Airman Higinbotham was back to work the next day, which would have been On May 15, 1956.

When luminous mind swells with such ripeness that it breaks open, there emerges from it the very flower of awareness itself. The flower of awareness “perceives” only the grounding union of all creation in such a way that the particularity of every form of life—all creation—is distinct to the extent that we are all one in the breathing depths of God.

Back to the Maastricht travelogue.

The monster on display here is a machine that stores clinker by means of its big & rotating conveyor belts. It was built by Koch (RHM) and is a part of the former Portland cement and clinker factory of the ENCI quarry.

It's shown here in its now decommissioned state. Once clinker (klinker) and portland were produced here.

We reached the final point of our route, and as soon as we get back into the cars, the long journey home will begin. The thought of this made me a little sad, despite all the photos and emotions we experienced. It was drizzling lightly, so I decided to take a walk and look around.

The wind howled like a distant, forgotten voice, carrying cool droplets of rain as I stood motionless on the edge of the cliff. Below stretched an endless turquoise lake, its surface rippling with tiny waves, while all around, mountains unfolded endlessly, their jagged peaks shrouded in mist. My boots, covered in a thick layer of dust speckled with amusing craters made by raindrops, pressed into the damp grass, grounding me in reality even as my thoughts unraveled like threads caught by the wind and drifted far beyond the horizon, dissolving into oblivion.

As the wind rushed past, tugging at my clothes and hair, I marveled at the intricately crafted masterpiece of nature unfolding before my eyes—a canvas so vast and complex that no lens could ever fully capture its essence. For a moment, I allowed myself to imagine understanding this grand design. And when I closed my eyes and opened them again, the mountains were still there, unchanged, indifferent to my presence. They had stood for millennia, enduring storms and the changing seasons, and they would continue to stand long after I was gone. The mountains were simply a reflection, a mirror held up to the bare soul. The vastness of the landscape mirrored the vastness of our inner worlds. There was a certain kind of freedom in standing alone, unbound by the expectations of others, free to confront the depths of one's own soul.

Stepping back from the edge, the ground beneath my feet felt solid and real once more. The wind continued to howl, but now it was a companion and ally, scattering some of the clouds and allowing the golden light of the setting sun to spill onto the earth. In stopping just to gaze, I had become lost not only in the beauty before me but also in the quiet solitude surrounding me. Now, I hurried to capture fragments of the fleeting spectacle, fully aware that no photograph could truly convey the emotions tied to this adventure.

The Gantocks are a small group of rocks lying off Dunoon in the Firth of Clyde. A 44 feet (13 metres) tall navigation beacon was constructed on the rocks in 1886 after several ships ran aground.

Despite the beacon, vessels continue to collide with the rocks.

The MV Akka was lost after grounding on the Gantocks on 9 April 1956. The PS Waverley grounded on 15 July 1977, with 715 passengers on board.

On the horizon are three islands: Little Cumbrae, Arran and Bute (left to right).

Looking back up Glen Etive to Glencoe on a wet day with very low cloudbase. Based on today's evidence this is the first single tracked road (the Skyfall Road) that most tourists encounter. I often find it quite amusing meeting them as they try to work out what to do: many not having done any research before coming to Scotland. I bet most drive wearing white trainers too.

You get convoys of people in car clubs of various types: Porsche, McLaren, Bentley, BMW M Series, etc, dashing down the road in totally unsuitable cars, grounding their sumps on the humps and dips, and trying to pass Breedon 18 wheel tipper trucks loaded with stone, without getting a scrape or fall off the road. And Mohos....mobile homes, and VW camper vans with those pop up roofs, which get stuck popped up.

The Glen Etive road is a dead end. And on a day like today there is not much to see apart from waterfalls, and nothing to do at the end either. By all means enjoy the first few miles, then give it up as a waste of time. None of your passengers will appreciate you pressing on to the end. And Skyfall Lodge isn't down this road. The real one is about 5 hours away.

I like to look up to the sky through a treetop. You realize how huge the tree is, how small you are and how far is the sky. It grounds you. It helps to keep you down. We're just humans, we're not big. Only our actions can be as big as a tree and get as far as the sky. We're staying on the ground being small, that's the reality.

She was deliberately grounded here in shallow water to avoid sinking or breaking up in deeper water. A black and white photograph captures the raw power of ocean waves crashing onto a pebbled shore. The turbulent water and rising mist evoke stormy conditions, while the wet sand in the foreground adds texture and grounding to the scene. For this scene, I used a selection of pieces from :Fanatik Architecture: that never fail to inspire:

- St. KILDA – the foundation of solitude.

- WATERFALL – carving its way through silence.

- AZORES and LAGOON – for the lush harmony of untouched nature.

- ROCK BOULDERS – grounding the story in realism.

- And DRAMATIK LANDSCAPE WINDLIGHTS – because light shapes emotion.

A little world emerged here—rooted, wild, and a bit melancholic.

Thanks to Fanatik for the tools to make that feeling tangible.

I remember the moment I chose this look - not for the world, but for him… or perhaps for the possibility of him. The kind of man who doesn’t just notice - he sees. And when that moment comes, I never leave anything to chance.

This is where the Brenda Dress by LF Design becomes my quiet advantage - my unspoken introduction.

There’s something undeniably magnetic about its silhouette. The deep plunging neckline dares without apology, sculpting a line that feels both confident and irresistibly feminine. The tailored waist - cinched with that perfectly balanced belt - draws everything inward, creating a soft hourglass that moves as I move. And those elongated sleeves, kissed with sheer striping, add just enough intrigue… a play between concealment and revelation.

The cut is deliberate - a harmony of structure and fluidity. The hemline floats just high enough to tease, while the vertical striping elongates my form, making every step feel like a statement rather than a movement. It’s not just a dress - it’s posture, presence, intention.

And then there’s the HUD - my personal palette of moods. 🎨 With a full spectrum of colorways and tint capabilities, I don’t just wear the Brenda Dress… I curate it. Soft neutrals for quiet afternoons, bold contrasts for nights when I want to be remembered. The textures respond beautifully under light, enhancing every contour with subtle realism and depth. It gives me control - and that control is power.

To complete the look, I slipped into the Zena Boots. They don’t whisper - they declare. The thigh-high rise wraps my legs in a sleek, second-skin finish, grounding the softness of the dress with a bold, unapologetic edge. The stiletto heel lifts not just my height, but my confidence… changing the rhythm of how I walk, how I pause, how I turn.

Their HUD is just as expressive - offering multiple color options from classic black to daring reds, allowing me to shift the entire mood of the ensemble with a single click. Whether I want mystery or fire… they deliver.

Together, this look becomes something more than fashion. It becomes a feeling. The kind you wear when you’re not searching anymore - but you’re ready to be found. Because when the right man enters your life… you don’t try to impress him - you simply arrive as your most unforgettable self. ✨

The Brenda Dress is compatible with Maitreya, Legacy, Reborn, Kupra, LaraX, Niramyth, and Waifu mesh bodies, ensuring a flawless, sculpted fit across today’s most sought-after silhouettes. The Zena Boots are compatible with Legacy, Maitreya, Reborn, Kupra, and LaraX mesh bodies, designed with precision shaping that hugs the leg beautifully for that seamless thigh-high finish.

The secret to controlling your humans' minds is to have proper grounding. Note Jasper's hind foot firmly grounded. And one fore paw extended slightly over the edge of his Ottoman Empire. This acts as a super mind-controlling antenna system. We succumb every time.

Claregalway Friary, Co. Galway

This site has a complex history that dates back nearly a thousand years. Today, it's rare to see another human here except for funerals and the odd tourist van.

The vertical line at the left of the archway is a grounding bar that runs to the lightning rods at the top of the tower.

I step lightly across the wooden path, where petals fall like whispered promises, and in that quiet moment… I feel it - the soft, undeniable embrace of nature wrapping itself around my spirit 🌸

This is where I find her… my truest self.

In the filtered light beneath blooming trees, in the hush between breeze and breath, in the gentle rhythm of life unfolding all around me. And somehow… what I wear becomes part of that harmony - an extension of earth, sky, and soul, woven together in a language older than words 🌿

The Maika Outfit by adorsy becomes that language.

Its silhouette is a study in youthful sensuality - a cropped, sculpted upper form paired with elongated, fluid lines below. There is a delicate balance here… athletic yet soft, structured yet free. A modern athleisure aesthetic reimagined through a romantic, biophilic lens - where fashion does not compete with nature, but belongs to it 🍃

The jacket… oh, the jacket…

A quilted cropped piece that frames my form like a gentle embrace. Its diamond stitching recalls the heritage of equestrian and alpine fashion - garments once designed for warmth, now reborn as statements of movement and grace. The slight sheen of its fabric catches the sunlight like morning dew, while the HUD reveals a palette drawn straight from nature itself - soft pastels, blooming florals, grounded earth tones, and bold seasonal hues. Each color feels like stepping into a different moment of the day 🌼

The pants follow like a second skin…

High-waisted and impossibly smooth, they trace every curve with quiet confidence. Their floral compositions feel almost alive - as if petals and pigments were lifted directly from the meadow beneath my feet. The HUD offers a spectrum of prints and tones, allowing me to move from delicate spring blossoms to muted organic textures, each one grounding me deeper into this living canvas of earth and sky 🌷

And then… the boots.

Softly structured, slightly slouched, they anchor me - a tactile connection between body and ground. Their design whispers of early 2000s streetwear fused with modern mesh precision, while their HUD mirrors the outfit’s palette, letting me blend or contrast with intention. Whether in soft creams, blush tones, or deeper seasonal shades, they carry me forward… step by step, rooted yet free 🌾

There is something beautifully cyclical in all of this…

We draw from nature - her colors, her textures, her quiet poetry - and in return, we reflect her through fashion. A continuous dialogue. A circle of life expressed not just in breath, but in beauty, in movement, in presence 🌺

Historically, fashion has always returned to nature - from the floral motifs of the Rococo era to the organic lines of Art Nouveau, to today’s modern reinterpretations of botanical and environmental influence. The Maika set feels like a continuation of that lineage… a contemporary ode to the eternal muse that is the natural world 🌿

Compatible mesh bodies include:

LaraX, PetiteX, Legacy, Reborn, and Waifu - ensuring this expression of nature and form is accessible across beautifully diverse silhouettes ✨

A Kookaburra's cooling posture, often seen on hot, sunny days in Australia, involves specific, visible behaviors designed to release body heat, as they do not sweat.

Key elements of this posture include:

Spreading Wings: The bird holds its wings slightly away from its body, allowing air to circulate under the feathers to release trapped heat.

Open Beak (Gular Fluttering): Kookaburras open their beaks and may pant, using a technique called "gular fluttering" to dissipate heat through their throat.

Fluffed Feathers: They may raise or fluff their feathers to further release trapped heat.

Perching Low/Grounding: While normally high-perched predators, they may sit lower or on the ground in the shade to stay cool.

This behavior is a common response to extreme heat, allowing the bird to "sit and wait" for the temperature to drop /

She jumped—fast and clean—away from Adrienne’s place, slipping away before the reptilian watchers could reach her. The jump took her to her shelter.

Carved into solid rock deep within the Earth millions of years ago, the shelter had long served as her sanctuary. It had weathered the last great war with the reptilians, a conflict so brutal it nearly erased all life. In its aftermath, she and the few remaining survivors had fled underground, seeking refuge in places like this.

Her sanctuary was different, absolutely secure… a sealed cavern with no doors, no tunnels, no outside trace. Only accessible by jump.

This one was hers. The walls, once raw stone, bore the marks of habitation—smooth surfaces, warm lighting, a quiet comfort. She felt it immediately: the pulse of familiarity, the whisper of belonging. Though empty, the space was not untouched. Someone had been here. Recently.

She scanned the room. Notes and maps littered the table. A laptop sat open, humming softly. Adrienne’s, no doubt. Nearby: a backpack, a pistol, a half-drunk glass of wine. On the screen, a map of the Four Corners region blinked—evidence of a search. Maybe they had located the reptilian nest?

Her heart thudded. They’d been here. Her other self. Adrienne. Proof of survival. A rush of relief flooded her.

But where were they now?

No VDD signals. No trace. If they’d jumped while she was in this timeline, she would’ve picked up the activity on her VDD.

She poured herself a glass of wine, the ritual grounding her. Then she curled into the sofa, Adrienne’s notes in hand—dense, handwritten, cryptic.

Other pages catalogued missing persons, UFO sightings, paranormal anomalies. The region was alive with mystery.

The top page bore map coordinates, underlined and marked with a single word: “mound.” She smiled, A clue, she thought.

Adrienne's handwriting was maddening—modern script, erratic and stylized. She squinted, reread, deciphered. Slowly, the words began to cohere. But fatigue crept in, and the wine dulled her focus. Lines blurred. Sentences looped. She read the same passage three times before surrendering.

Sleep took her gently, like a tide pulling her into the deep.

An endless freight train – that’s the soundtrack of life in a small coastal town.

All this water crashing into each other and onto the shore makes a whole lot of noise. I’m not sure about other oceans, but the Pacific is very loud! When you try to talk to somebody on the beach, it can be difficult to hear each other.

Tidda and I typically step outside shortly after 5 am for a quick walk. I love that early time when the street is empty and I hear nothing but ocean waves and the swallows chirping in their pursuit of insects.

There are days when I step outside and am stunned because the freight train has turned into a jet plane about to take off! Other days I’m equally shocked because I can hardly hear the ocean at all!

Being able to listen anytime to the pulse of nature in its different moods is incredibly grounding. And reassuring.

The Peter Iredale, a four-masted steel barque, was built in 1890 in England and became a famous shipwreck on the Oregon coast after running aground near Fort Stevens in 1906. The ship, owned by the British shipping firm Iredale & Porter, was carrying ballast from Salina Cruz, Mexico to Portland, Oregon when it encountered strong winds and currents at the mouth of the Columbia River, leading to its grounding on Clatsop Sands (now Clatsop Spit). Despite the ship's grounding, no lives were lost

A close up of the steam tug that you can see in yesterday's picture. This is what Wikipedia has to say about her:

Lyttelton, built in 1907 as Canterbury is a historic steam tug in Lyttelton, New Zealand. She was ordered by the Lyttelton Harbour Board in 1906 as a replacement for the earlier iron paddle tug Lyttelton, built in 1878.

Built by the Ferguson Brothers firm in Port Glasgow, Scotland, she was able to reach a maximum speed of 12.414 knots (22.991 km/h; 14.286 mph) during her sea trials. She left Port Glasgow on 2 July 1907 with a crew of 15 for a 69-day voyage through the Suez Canal to reach New Zealand, arriving on 10 September. After a brief period of painting and preparation for service, on 18 September she was handed over to the harbour board, serving not just as the harbor's tug but also as its pilot boat and as a fireboat. She was berthed at No.2 wharf, where she has been based most of her life. In August 1911, with the soon to be arrival of the suction dredge Canterbury, the Lyttelton Harbour Board approved for the change of the vessel's name to her current Lyttelton, with the change being formalized in October 1911.

In 1913, she drew crowds bringing in the battlecruiser HMS New Zealand into harbour; and in 1920 assisting the battlecruiser HMS Renown, carrying Edward, Prince of Wales, into the harbour.

In 1939, the tug was relegated to secondary roles following the arrival of the larger tug Lyttelton II. On 29 December 1940 the ferry Rangatira ran aground at in dense fog. Shortly after her grounding, Lyttelton and the Union Company cargo vessel Waimarino, neither of which had radar, located Rangatira aground in Pigeon Bay. After Waimarino unloaded the 750 passengers of Rangatira, Lyttelton along with the assistance of another Union Company vessel, Karitane, helped the ferry float free at high tide.

Following the beginning of World War II, in 1942 the tug was requisitioned for service by the Royal New Zealand Navy, being armed with Bren guns and depth charges, and given the prefix HMNZS Lyttelton of a commissioned warship. By 1944, she returned to port service as Lyttelton.

In 1971, following the introduction of the new tug Canterbury, it was decided to retire Lyttelton. Following this, she was leased for the sum of $2 a year to the "Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society", being preserved as a museum ship. In 1989 the tug was gifted to the society by the Lyttelton Harbour Board. She is still in operation, being maintained and operated by the society.

Lyttelton is one of three operating steam-powered ships in New Zealand, alongside the tug William C Daldy in Auckland and TSS Earnslaw on Lake Wakatipu.

The severe weather [Atmospheric River] that struck Vancouver, British Columbia last weekend took out all rail service to the busy Port of Vancouver, shutting a key supply chain node for containerized cargo for the Canadian market.

[The sorm] also tore loose [an empty wood chip] barge in English Bay, briefly prompting concerns of a bridge strike, eventually [running] aground at Sunset Beach, just a short distance from the Burrard Street Bridge in Vancouver's stylish West End district.[...].

The barge has become something of a local fixture - a relatively harmless, pollution-free and (to some) charming addition to the waterfront. [...].

[...] At the time of the grounding, the tide was at a high of nearly 15 feet above MLLW [Mean Lower Low Water]. Sunday's high tide will be the next opportunity for a refloat attempt [...].

Transport Canada is monitoring the grounding situation.

A quiet morning in late autumn, deep in the peaceful forests near my home. The soft light creates a magical atmosphere, with moss-covered ground and trees adding to the sense of calm. Walking here feels grounding, and afterward, I return home with a wonderful feeling, ready to enjoy a hearty breakfast with my family. Moments like these are what make autumn such a beautiful season.

This breathtaking landscape captures the raw majesty of Sedona’s iconic red rock formations, bathed in the warm, brilliant glow of the golden hour. The towering sandstone monolith, likely part of the renowned Schnebly Hill Formation, rises dramatically with its heavily eroded spires, jagged ridges, and distinct horizontal strata. The low-angle sunlight ignites the upper half of the cliffs in a fiery orange and crimson hue, while the lower sections slip into soft, cool shadows, emphasizing the immense scale and rugged texture of the ancient geological structures.

In striking contrast to the burning red rock face, a lush, dense carpet of green chaparral, pinyon pines, and junipers blankets the valley floor and clings to the lower slopes, grounding the arid scene with vibrant desert life. Above, a completely cloudless, pristine sky gradients from a soft pale blue near the horizon to a deeper azure, providing a tranquil and cool backdrop that beautifully accentuates the intense warmth of the illuminated peaks. This harmonious interplay of fiery stone, verdant foliage, and serene sky perfectly encapsulates the peaceful yet powerful essence of the Arizona high desert.

Even the smallest lives carry quiet determination.

Perched on a weathered post, this Black capped Chickadee paused only long enough to secure its prize before darting back into the branches. In winter, nothing is wasted. Every seed matters. Every movement is intentional.

There is something grounding about watching these tiny birds work through the cold without hesitation. No drama. No complaint. Just steady persistence against the season.

Captured during a birding outing in Ohio, this moment felt like a reminder that resilience often comes in the smallest forms.

I found a charming YouTube tutorial about how to make this beautiful large Swedish Snow Flower. It took me about two weeks to finish. Anything handmade is always so much better! I had been shopping online for a new decoration but was disappointed with all the soulless products on offer, so made one instead.

In these dark and stormy times (and I'm not just talking about the weather now), constructing it was a very grounding activity. I recommend it. Creating something with your hands alleviates that helpless feeling, to a degree. It's so simple, yet the result is fantastic and beautiful!

Here is the YouTube tutorial (it's in German):
