The Fungal Worship Grotto is the most spiritual place in Somewhereville but the only one that can lead you here is Mike Crodoser the resident expert on all things psylocilum. Be aware, only those with the purist kindest minds are granted access.

The old boat house, known as the Grotto, Wanstead Park. Built as a Victorian folly in the style of a ruined castle.

Grotto Falls is located in the Umpqua River watershed, deep in old-growth forest. It was named for the deeply undercut cliffs and the dark recess where the falls are located.

My daughter and I hiked up to the falls for the first time yesterday.

A small stream comes of Deception Creek and flows through the forest.

@ Fantasy Faire: Yuum Baalal Grotto ~ April 17 - May 4

Deep within the recesses of a desolate mountain rests the bones of an ancient creature whose residual life magic has turned a barren cavern into a lush, magical biome.

Welcome to my region at Fantasy Faire, Yuum Baalal Grotto! Here are just a few of my offerings this year~

YUUM BAALAL TEMPLE

This massive temple was constructed with custom LODs to be seen without much distortion at a distance. It was also made in many many pieces, so it can be dismantled for parts.

It is too large to link together so it comes as a linked set. The back and top are removable. Even the interior can be removed so you can just have the exterior shell.

In total it is 50 meters tall and 99 land impact.

YUUM BAALAL MASONRY

Right outside the temple is the landing area, which is comprised of the large circular dial and the steps leading up to it. The steps are in small segments and have a "clean" version and mossy version.

Land Impact:

Dial - 30 LI

Steps - 2 LI each

Rails - 3 LI for each set

YUUM BAALAL GROTTO EEP

They're somewhat simple this time around because it's more about the atmosphere and the cave BUT here they are! I've included both sky windlights, one for outside the cave and the other for the inside and also the water setting~

The other image shown is the deity that gives the cave its life, even after death. This is not for sale directly, but will be available at the Fantasy Faire auction later in the event!

The Blue Grotto in Zurrieq in Malta

One sculpture located inside the Moses Grotto at Boboli Gardens in Florence, Italy.

The Grotto is pretty sacred place on the University of Notre Dame campus. Even late into the evening, many people were still visiting. I didn't want to impose those seeking a quiet moment by setting up a tripod, so I just grabbed this handheld shot of the candles off from the side. It's a remarkable place of reflection, any time of day,..., or night.

The Yungang Grottoes (simplified Chinese: 云冈石窟; traditional Chinese: 雲崗石窟; pinyin: Yúngāng Shíkū; Wuzhoushan Grottoes in ancient time) are ancient Chinese Buddhist temple grottoes near the city of Datong in the province of Shanxi. They are excellent examples of rock-cut architecture and one of the three most famous ancient Buddhist sculptural sites of China. The others are Longmen and Mogao.

The site is located about 16 km west of the city of Datong, in the valley of the Shi Li river at the base of the Wuzhou Shan mountains. They are an outstanding example of the Chinese stone carvings from the 5th and 6th centuries. All together, the site is composed of 252 grottoes with more than 51,000 Buddha statues and statuettes. In 2001, the Yungang Grottoes were made a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Yungang Grottoes are considered by UNESCO to be a "masterpiece of early Chinese Buddhist cave art... [and] ...represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asia with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices."It is classified as a AAAAA scenic area by the China National Tourism Administration.

Powerscourt House and Gardens, Wicklow, Ireland grotto on a very foggy morning.

Lightpainting is like a drug to me, If I don't get my fix I start to show signs of withdrawal, grumpiness, generally irritable, scratching my arms, that type of thing. I was like that last night, thinking "where could I go? what could I shoot? what's the weather like? its raining, so I need to be inside. The Grotto? I haven't shot there yet and now I can, the wettest part of the journey will be the walk to the location"

So off I went.

I set up the BLS before I got there so it would be a case of in and out asap. Not that I have ever got caught there. Just a quick hit, It takes roughly an hour to get there and when I go to places like this, later is better.

luckily the rain stopped as I got out of the car and the fullish moon lit my walk, past the Temple of Apollo and the Pantheon. Tripod setup, 14mm on, iso, focus, countdown timer, trigger camera and off we go. Lit with the Back light Scanner provided by L.A.C.E, I have a few more ideas for this location but I grabbed the shots I wanted for now and packed up and headed home.

A cascade we passed on our hike up to Grotto Falls. On the hike back to the car, we had a black bear run across the trail about 30ft in front of us. Quit a rush. How to get to Grotto Fails from the NPS site: From the parkway in Gatlinburg, turn at traffic light #8 and follow Historic Nature Trail into Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Take Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail to stop #5 where there is a large parking area. Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is a narrow, winding, one-way road that is closed in winter. Buses, RVs, and large trucks are prohibited on the road.

The gardens were created in the late 19th century and lay buried for many years before being rediscovered in 2000, since when they've been largely restored.

"Explore the mythic cave-like Mineral Pool, the cascading two-story waterwall and palatial waterfall. Refresh yourself under the invigorating cool-splash cascade, release tension in the whirlpool or simply curl up grotto-side with a book."

It was lovely...

The Grotto is a nice half-way oasis on the Seven Hollows Trail at Petit Jean State Park.

This trail is about 4.5 miles in length and forms a loop so you don't have to backtrack. Hiking during the wet season is the best time to experience nice streams along the way, as well as a nice waterfall at the grotto. I've hiked this trail several hundred times over the past 30+ years.

Datong Yungang Grottoes

The three main sites in China that are famous for their stone sculpture are Gansu Province Dunhuang, Luoyang Longmen and Datong Yungang. Among these, the Yungang grottoes are considered the first among equals, for their tremendous size, their ancient history and their relatively complete state of presenvation. In 1961, the State Council of China declared this a National Key Cultural Relics Protected Unit and in 2001 the stie was listed as a World Cultual Heritage Site.

With their 252 caves and 51,000 status, the Yungang cave art represent the successful fusion of Buddhist religious symbolic art from south and central Asian with Chinese cultural traditions, starting in the 5th century CE under Imperial auspices. The power and endurance of Buddhist belief in China are vividly illustrated by the Yungang gottoes.

The caves can be divided into 3 phases: cave 20 is one of the five earliest caves of monk Tan Yao, house of the sitting statue of Sakyamuni, which is 13.7 meters high, with a full and round face, majestic smile, slim up and a high nose, ears that extend almost to the shoulders, radiant eyes, and broad shoulders. It is the representative of the Buddha sculptures of the Yungang Grottoes.

Judas's bag of gold...whoops....bag of silver! Thanks for the tip! Details are important.

Grotto Bridge is dated 1757 and is part of the Craigiehall Estate (used presently as Scottish Army HQ) and is upriver from the Cramond Brig, perhaps a 10-15 minute walk or you could park in Cammo Road and walk down. See the map location to make sense of this. You can walk further up the river over the bridge and it will take you to Turnhouse the old Edinburgh Airport with a nice view down the railway to the Forth Bridge and lots of planes to watch or photograph. Wiki about Craigiehall ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Craigiehall )

I chose a Single RAW file ran through Photomatix to enhance the image - I know people will have mixed views on 'altering' photographs as I once did myself. But our eyes see a much wider range of light than a single shot can take... you could do a set of the same photographs with different settings and combine them (bracketing feature on most DSLR's). Or change using Lightroom, I've only used Photomatix to date and am happy with the results. Once I have more time I will try Lightroom too...

Thanks for looking and your positive comments.

Detail of Grotto construction

Excerpt from saintmichaelsparish.net:

GROTTO AND PRAYER GARDEN IN HONOUR OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA: This was one of the great projects Father Sunny had in mind when he took charge of our parish. He had already built two Grottos in his former parish churches in Hagersville and Walpole. It cost us over $35,000 and within four months we were able to collect the amount needed for it from our generous parishioners! Irene Marr donated $4,750 towards the cost of the statues in memory of her husband Gordon Marr and Seraphine Dowd donated $3,500 towards the granite stone in memory of her husband Dick Dowd. Several families donated cement benches in memory of their loved ones. Bishop Bergie paid for one bench in honour of Our Lady of Fatima. A bronze plaque with names of all who donated was also installed. Many parishioners made donations towards it and their names are on the bronze plaque. In less than a year the Grotto was completed. The construction work was done by Paul O’Dwyer construction Co., Jarvis, who built two other grottos in Hagersville/Walpole. The blessing of the Grotto took place on June 15, 2014 after the 10:30am mass with hundreds of parishioners in attendance. Bishop Anthony Tonnos, bishop Emeritus of Hamilton diocese, was the main celebrant. In connection with the celebration, Seraphine Dowd donated a gold plated Chalice for the church and her son Steve How donated a Ciborium for the church. May crowning and the first parish picnic with barbecue luncheon also took place after the Mass and blessing.

Rachel Meneguzzi, a university student from the University of Guelph did the eyes of the statue and the Grotto was designed by Tom O’Dwyer from Hagersville parish. Now the crowning of Mary in May is done at the Grotto every year. At the annual parish family picnic, all of us gather at the Grotto and offer special prayers of healing to Our Lady of Fatima.
