Dungeon Provincial Park is home to The Dungeon, which is a natural rock formation where over many, many years waves had carved out two sea caves next to each other. Eventually, the rock got eroded away so much that the 'roof' of the caves collapsed, exposing the beautiful archway that you see today.

The Marsden Grotto is the only pub I know built into a cliff. It's even got its own ballroom. This place is well worth a visit if you're in the area.

A popular performer, Grotto Geyser splashes 15 feet (5 m) from 1.5 hours to a day. The weirdly shaped cone may have resulted from siliceous sinter covering trees. Situated on the bank of the Firehole River, Riverside Geyser is one of the most picturesque and predictable geysers in the park.

During its 20-minute eruptions, a 75-foot (23 m) column of water arches gracefully over the river. Eruptions are about six hours apart. Watch for water flowing over the edge of the cone beginning 90-120 minutes before an eruption. Grotto Geyser has an average temperate of 200.1°F (93.4°C), an average pH of 9.1, and an average conductivity of 2300 uS/cm.

Yesterday's post introduced the beauty of old highly compressed ice and opens a series of photos of a stunning old cystalline iceberg off Rolige Brae Glacier, Rodefjord, Scoresby Sund, East Greenland. This is a beautiful ice grotto in the iceberg.

I have realised that the original Grotto scene may night work 100% of the time, so I have reviewed my design and have created a similar design that will fit along a straight line without having the issue of transparent barriers.

Marsden Grotto Hotel and Restaurant.

The Marsden Grotto, locally known as The Grotto, is a gastropub located on the coast at Marsden in South Shields, Tyne & Wear, England. It is partly dug into the cliff face and fronted with a more conventional building opening onto the beach. The pub is one of the very few "cave bars" in Europe, another being Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham.

The Longmen Grottoes (aka Longmen Caves) is a UNESCO–listed world heritage site which has thousands of statues of Buddha carved in caves excavated from its surrounding cliffs. Unfortunately, the site was subjected to significant vandalism and senseless destruction at several points in its history. Major artifacts were removed by Western collectors and souvenir hunters during the early 20th century and by the Japanese during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The heads of many statues were also destroyed during the Cultural Revolution.

The Chinese government has since recognized the cultural and tourist importance of the Longmen Grottoes and has been active engaged in the preservation and restoration of the site. For more information: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longmen_Grottoes

This old bridge stands over the Almond River in the west of Edinburgh. Now just foot traffic it would once have seen many horse and cart journeys. I was drawn to the last remaining vestige of Autumn in the tree on the right.

It's believed that Grotto Geyser's strange formation resulted when tree trunks, which surrounded the geyser, were slowly covered in sinter. Grotto's eruptions, which can last anywhere from a few minutes to more than a day, are unpredictable. So it was pretty lucky to see Grotto erupting during my walk down the path in the Old Faithful area. Another interesting thing about this geyser is that it's like two geysers in one, erupting on both the left and right side. Grotto geyser is actually a fountain-type geyser, but the formation above disguises the pool. This shot is a little soft because I photographed it handheld with the collapsed tripod still attached as I was approaching. Didn't want to miss it.

Set up after this, so more coming later. Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, July 2017

The Grotto is this very cool cave carved into the dolomite cliff faces of the area.

I would have loved to get down there and explore. Maybe another time.

Thanks for looking.

"Fossil Falls Grotto:" I had taken an image similar to this before, but the sky was fully clouded at the time and I knew I had to return when there would be at least a hint of blue sky. Thankfully, upon my return, the conditions cooperated. This is a small grotto near Fossil Creek Waterfall. I had to conquer my fear of spiders (at least temporarily), as there were quite a few long-legged ones and very thick, stringy webs hanging all around the crevices just behind me. Being in such a small space, I may have grazed a few webs between myself and my backpack sticking out, but I just tried to keep focused on shooting and the beautiful view outside the cave, instead of staring at my fears behind me. I hope you enjoy.

Grotto Geyser is in the north end of Yellowstone National Park's Upper Geyser Basin. It erupts at roughly 8 hour intervals.

Does anyone else see a face (and a hand) in the right side of the crater?

This was our first real trip with digital cameras, almost 10 years ago. I am adding additional photos to this album as time allows.

The absolute depths of Winter in Iceland.

This normally pounding was waterfall at Kirkjufell now reduced to a mere 'shower' encased within what appears to be a naturally formed Ice Cave or Grotto, there were actually 2 of these that has formed around the 2 main spouts of the falls, (the bigger panoramic image can been further back in my stream here - www.flickr.com/photos/pete37038/49487921378/in/dateposted/ ). This is from a different perpective and just concentrating on the detail in one of the 'archways'

Whilst some people would no doubt see this archway as a dream 'selfie location' for Instagram, this was as close as it was safe to go, and it was shot at 190mm from a safe position on the banking, there was literally no way of telling how thick the ice was underneath the snowfall, and I had absolutely no intention of findiing out !
