Raiki, sitting on the deck rail in front of the now leafless burning bush.

Not a Sample Sale bargain, but a guy I ordered before all the deals showed up. I didn't like Raiki for the longest time. And then he supposedly sold out. So of course then I decided I needed him. And then he came back into stock. Yeah!

This Groove-billed Ani was found by an out-of-state birder at Encinitas Community Park (Encinitas, CA), on 19 November, 2017. This was a first San Diego County record. These unique, almost "prehistoric-looking" birds are in the Cuckoo family (Cuculidae). During the hour and a half that was spent watching this bird (on 24 Nov., 2017), it was seen catching a number of grasshoppers and/or katydids.

Entirely black bird with iridescent highlights, a long tail that seems loosely attached. Named for its thick, grooved bill with a curved top, but grooves often difficult to see. Widespread through Central and South America, north to southern Texas. Most similar to Smooth-billed Ani, which lacks the grooved bill. Most often found in small flocks. Prefers open shrubby habitats such as weedy lots or woodland edge.

My Eloise Pullip, now with a new wig and eychips. This wig makes her head looks really big, but it looks good on pictures (I think)

Kissy Puff Pancake Batter wishes you a Happy Easter.

Rare for South Florida and a lifer for me. This tropical ani can be found in South Texas and a few along the Gulf Coast. I posted a portrait to show the grooves on its bill.

Thanks so much for the visit!

What a cutie pie! At first I wasn't sure I liked her unique eyechips, but they've definately grown on me.

One glorious morning last week, at a nursery school in Stirling, I photographed a dance class for 3-5 year olds run by We Dance, Wee Groove. It was just about the cutest thing I've ever seen, and I was reminded of Louis Pasteur's remark: "When I approach a child, he inspires in me two sentiments; tenderness for what he is, and respect for what he may become."

This is a very unique landscape in the northern coast of Taiwan, it is located in Lao-mei, Shimen. In geographical terms, "Green Stone Groove" is actually "tidal creek" or "sea ditch". These neatly arranged stone groove, is the result of the Datun volcanic eruptions. The volcanic legacy coast reef, under the long-term wave erosion, soft texture part is eroded, leaving the hard part and forming a trench.
