The long, deep groove of the valley of River Cairasca crawls into the deep canyon of River Diveria and into the valley of river Toce.
Il profondo solco della valle Cairasca striscia verso il canyon del Rio Divera e la piana del Toce.
Un vuelo en globo por El Aljarafe sevillano, por la Vega del Guadiamar y la campiña, ambas situadas entre los municipios de Sanlúcar la Mayor, Aznalcóllar, Escacena y Paterna del Campo, estos dos ultimos pertenecientes a la provincia de Huelva, justo en el limite con Sevilla.

The groove-billed ani (crotophaga sulcirostris) is a tropical bird in the cuckoo family with a long tail and a large, curved beak. It is a resident species throughout most of its range, from southern Texas, central Mexico and The Bahamas, through Central America, to northern Colombia and Venezuela, and coastal Ecuador and Peru. The groove-billed ani lives in small groups of one to five breeding pairs. They defend a single territory and lay their eggs in one communal nest. All group members incubate the eggs and care for the young.

A rarity north of the border. I had only seen anis in Venezuela in 1995 before this one. Although it looks superficially like a corvid, it belongs to the cuckoo family.

The Groove-billed Ani is one of those birds that usually gets birders pretty excited here in Texas so when we saw this one with several of its friends on the first morning of our Costa Rica trip this month it did draw quite a bit of attention. They were so abundant, however, that by the end of the day we were drawing about as much attention as our grackles do here at home. Even if they are quite common I think they are really interesting birds and rarely pass up an opportunity to take a few photos of them.
