The nationally renowned Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular, presented by Citizens Bank, returns to Roger Williams Park Zoo from October 4 through November 3.
Join your family and friends in this amazing experience: a night time display of 5,000 illuminated jack-o-lanterns all along our beautiful wetland trail. Well over 100 of the pumpkins are carved into veritable works of art, and presented in themed scenes with music.
It’s a one-of-a-kind experience that truly lives up to its name - spectacular!
This year’s Spectacular, titled “All the World’s a Stage,” features scenes from iconic and popular movies, Broadway hits and television series. Another section pays homage to man’s best friend with an array of carved pumpkins conveying the amazing variety of dog species. In addition, the night wouldn’t be complete without the annual Halloween scene and the kids section filled with childhood favorites. The climax, as always, is the incredible Laughing Tree display comprised of hundreds of pumpkins of every size and the distinctive “laughing” music.
Proceeds from the Spectacular will support the Zoo's education and conservation efforts as well as Zoo improvements.

NEW extended hours on Saturdays and Sunday, October 7: 6pm-midnight, last admission at 11 pm.

Rolling Sculpture Car Show, in downtown Ann Arbor this evening. When we got there, it started to pour, so we ate at the Parthenon, and about half an hour later, the sun was out and shining, and the raindrops on the cars were glistening in the light!
This reminded me of a pitted green olive with a red pimento center.

Featuring panoramic views of the lava flows, cinder cones, and desert landscape of the Fort Rock and Christmas Valley area of central Oregon, the Green Mountain Campground offers a remote camping experience perfect for photography, solitude and stargazing.
The site offers 6 first-come, first-served primitive campsites between the peaks of Green Mountain and East Green Mountain, just below an active fire lookout. Whether using it as a base camp for exploring nearby attractions like Crack in the Ground and the Four Craters Lava Field, or simply seeking an out-of-the-way site with stunning sunrises and sunsets, visitors willing to brave its washboarded dirt access road will not be disappointed.
Know Before You Go:
Access is via rugged dirt roads that may be impassable at times. Four-wheel drive vehicles are highly recommended. Facilities at the Green Mountain facilities include 6 designated campsites, a vault toilet, picnic tables, and fire grates. This is a primitive campground so please pack out all of your trash. The fire lookout atop Green Mountain is manned from June through October. The nearest services are in Christmas Valley, Oregon.
Directions: From the town of Christmas Valley, head east on the Christmas Valley Highway for approximately 2 miles. Turn north (left) onto Crack in the Ground Road and continue for about 5 miles, and turn left onto Lava Craters Road, following signs to Crack in the Ground. Follow the road past this site for about 4 miles, following the road for another 3 miles as it turns west and north and becomes the Green Mountain Road (BLM Road 6109-00).

The campground offers numerous vistas for viewing and photographing sunrises, sunsets, high desert storms, and night-skies.

The Victoria Memorial, officially the Victoria Memorial Hall, is a memorial building dedicated to Victoria, Queen of the United Kingdom and Empress of India, which is located in Kolkata, India - the capital of West Bengal and a former capital of British India. It currently serves as a museum and a tourist attraction. This memorial is surrounded by one of the biggest & greenest garden in the city.
The Kartik Pilgrimage 2018 featured the holy city of Vrindavan and the surrounding land of Vraj. Attracted by the love and guidance of Paramahamsa Vishwananda, around 250 international pilgrims made their way to experience the temples and saints that make this part of India so sacred. Starting with Diwali celebrations and ending with Kartik night, dancing and singing and praising the Lord was a constant theme throughout this unforgettable journey.

Mugling (moogle-ing) is a town on an important junction between roads connecting the major cities of Nepal. It has a reputation of sleaziness, prostitution... - and there the slander ends. The town, for most people, consists of the kilometre or so of shop fronts, coated in street trader activity, peppered with the numerous people trying to get to somewhere else. What goes on behind the street front I have no idea. Probably as calm and rural / mini-urban as anywhere else in Nepal. I will find out one day. This person was the daughter of the ferocious female owner of a small restaurant. Some Nepalis, it seems (generalisation) have a talent for barking orders, shouting harshly at people, and equally, receiving those barked orders with equanimity, as if they were a polite request. In this case the probably 10 year old girl cooking my noodles and delivering the tea all present.
This girl, daughter of said dragon (who no doubt has killer smile and laugh when work is over) was carefully preparing a tray of gifts for a Tihar puja, carefully counting out rice grains to fold into a leaf, carefully counting out (in English while I mirrored in Nepali) fine strands of cotton to form a janai which crosses one shoulder and goes round the torso, and there must be six strands. Anyhow, among an nation of predominantly brown eyes, pale green. She was from Mugling and had no idea why her eyes were so. I am continually astonished by the range of faces Nepal can present.
Another shot, not exactly spectacular, from the ornamentals in pots around the Quintard Mall, in Oxford, AL. This orange fruit must have ripened by now. We hope someone picked it and ate it.
