This large variety garden hosta sports two colored foliage and wonderfully textural lines on the underside.

Green ‘Big’ Deal
For the First Time, Green Power Tops Coal Industry in US Energy Production in April. Renewable energy outworked coal in April—and will likely continue that way.
…the tipping point where green energy overtakes coal energy permanently may have already taken place in a surprising location: Texas. Wamsted writes that wind and solar in the state topped the production of coal for the entire first quarter of 2019. Almost three hundred renewable energy projects slated for Texas in the near future should boost its numbers in the coming years. (smithsonian,com)
This picture however is from California and that Wind Farm is the oldest wind farm in the United States and once produced half of the world’s wind-generated electricity.
I pulled over to shoot this picture by the road side as the low clouds rolled on the hills revealing the Wind Turbines.

"Green River Snow"

Sunset capture at the Green River Overlook in Canyonlands. This was a third attempt to capture sunset at this spot, thankfully a positive outcome. The thick clouds on the horizon broke just enough for the sun to break through, lighting up the mist in the valley with a warm glow. The recent snowfall added to the overall effect. Thanks to fellow photographers Dustin LeFevre, Steve Howa, and Chris Cramer for their company!

The editing mistake on this photo makes me cringe. I should have saved a copy of the photo before editing it, but I was doing this on the plane ride home and had a lot of photos to go through. Ugh.
Anyways, I was photographing a hatch-year Black-necked Stilt when this Green Heron walked right in from of me! I was kneeling on a sandbar, close to a large patch of reeds. I hadn't yet seen a Green Heron in 2015 (most pathetic year bird ever), so it was pretty exciting to watch. Green Herons are my favourite heron, mainly because of their reclusive nature, as well as the fact they they look hilarious when they walk. This day was the first day of "real birding", and by that I mean away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta. It was really fun, and I got lifers Sinaloa Crow, Yellow-winged Cacique, Rufous-bellied Chachalaca, and Golden-cheeked Woodpecker.

Last Sunday, I had the greatest pleasure to see two beautiful green woodpeckers searching for food on the grass.
When I came back with the camera, only one of them was still here. Thus I could take a picture !
This woodpecker is a female, recognizable by her black malar. (Thanks, Jon !)
The male has a red mark on the black malar.

A macro shot of this beautiful butterfly.
The Green Hairstreak holds its wings closed, except in flight, showing only the green underside with its faint white streak. The extent of this white marking is very variable; it is frequently reduced to a few white dots and may be almost absent. Males and females look similar and are most readily told apart by their behaviour: rival males may be seen in a spiralling flight close to shrubs, while the less conspicuous females are more often encountered while laying eggs.
Although this is a widespread species, it often occurs in small colonies and has undergone local losses in several regions.
Wing Span Range (male to female): 27-34mm
Caterpillar Foodplants
Common Rock-rose (Helianthemum nummularium) and Common Bird's-foot-trefoil (Lotus corniculatus) are used on calcareous grassland, while Gorse (Ulex europeaus), Broom (Cytisus scoparius), and Dyer's Greenweed (Genista tinctoria) are used on heathland and other habitats. Bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) is used almost exclusively on moorland and throughout Scotland. Other foodplants include shrubs such as Dogwood (Cornus sanguinea), Buckthorn (Rhamnus cathartica), Cross-leaved Heath (Erica tetralix) and Bramble (Rubus fruticosus).

Green-winged Orchid / anacamptis morio. Cribbs Meadow, Leicestershire. 18/05/20.
'CENTRE STAGE.'
The exceptionally dry Spring last year gave a poor showing of Green-winged Orchids in Cribb's Meadow. Most of the predominantly purple ones were burnt to a crisp and very stunted.
It could so easily have been a wasted journey, but for my discovery of 2 x pale pink colour variants growing close together in the arid meadow.
Instant elation and so uplifting because I had never seen pink variant G-WOs before :-)
The one shown in this image was in prime condition with all flowers on the spike open and undamaged. The flowers were such a delicate pale pink colour that it was hard to detect the even paler centres on their broad, 3-lobed lower petals. There were fewer spots than usual on the lower petals too. A few random darker pink 'splodges' would make a more accurate description!
I focussed on the centre flower when making the image.

NB: The other nearby variant was a slightly darker pink than this one. It had just peaked prime condition and developed a few brown spots. *See previous image.
