Tailed Jay Butterfly (Graphium agamemnon) at Butterfly Rainforest

Tailed jay (Graphium agamemnon), a type of swallowtail butterfly. It is also called (Wikipedia info) Green-spotted Triangle, Tailed Green Jay, or the Green Triangle.

 

I spent some time at the Butterfly Garden at the Science Museum of Western Virginia (Roanoke, Virginia) today. Many more butterflies to follow.

Graphium agamemnon. Very restless, usually settling on the mud for just a couple of seconds and giving little opportunity for focussing correctly, or even locating it in the viewfinder! But not shy - several times settled just a couple of feet away.

You might think that my place is a garden full of flowers, hell no, those butterflies I met live in unlikely places with no flower to be found. These butterflies I shot during my morning exercise round the cemetery,

This Graphium sarpedon was not the first butterfly I met, but it is interesting that this butterfly rarely show its outer wing. This is the first time I took photo of its outer wing. This butterfly feed on mineral instead of nectar. They usually found on damp/wet soil, sucking mineral.

Der Gestreifte Eichelhäher (Graphium agamemnon), auch als Tailed Jay bezeichnet ist ein Schmetterling der Indo-Australis (Australien). Die Erstbeschreibung erfolgte 1758 durch Linnaeus. Die Flügelspannweite beträgt 8 bis 10 cm. Graphium agamemnon gehört zur Familie der Papilionidae (Ritterfalter). Der Schmetterling hat eine schwarze Grundfärbung. Die Flügel sind mit hellgrünen Flecken. Die Vorderflügel des Schmetterlings sind schwarz. Zahlreiche hellgrüne Flecken und Streifen dominieren den Flügel.

Die Unterseite von Graphium agamemnon gleicht der Oberseite. Die Grundfarbe ist braun und die Hinterflügel sind schwarz und am Rand gewellt. Der Flügel besitzt einen angedeuteten Schwanzfortsatz. Zahlreiche hellgrüne Flecken und Streifen dominieren den Flügel.

Die Unterseite ist braun. Zwei Reihen schmutzig-grüner Flecken sind zu sehen. Nahe beim Körper ist ein grüner Streifen vorhanden. Daneben ist ein grauer Bereich mit einem schwarzen Fleck darin.

Der Körper (Hinterleib) des Schmetterlings ist schwarz-weiß gestreift. Brustbereich und Kopf sind ebenfalls schwarz-weiß gestreift. Die Unterseite aller Teile ist weiß.
