The Tailed Jay (Graphium agamemnon) is a predominantly green and black tropical butterfly that belongs to the swallowtail family. The butterfly is also called Green Spotted Triangle, Tailed Green Jay or the Green Triangle. It is a common, non-threatened species native to India, Sri Lanka through Southeast Asia and into Australia.

10th Aniversary 'Butterflies Go Free' - Montréal Botanical Gardens

Think this is a Tailed Jay butterfly, seen in the Glasshouse at Wisley.

A caterpillar of Tailed Jay, Graphium agamemnon, just molted and became a 5th instar.

This Graphium agamemnon is an active butterfly, so I guess this one is sleeping otherwise you won't see her stay still even when zipping nectar. I took dozen shots of her just in case.. and these are the best I can get.

10th Aniversary 'Butterflies Go Free' - Montréal Botanical Gardens

The Tailed Jay (also known as the Green Spotted Triangle) is a member of the Papiliondae family.

Im Schmetterlingsgarten in Grevenmacher: Graphium agamemnon, deutsche Bezeichnung: Grüner Kolibri, stammt aus Südostasien. Flügelspannweite: ca. 7 bis 9 cm. Flügelmusterung: spitz ausgezogene, eher dreieckige Vorderflügel mit leuchtend grüner Bänderung, auffällig Form der Hinterflügel. Besonderheit: die grüne Sprenkelung der Flügel hilft dem Falter, mit seinem Lebensraum Regenwald zu verschmelzen und somit gut getarnt leben zu können.

The Tailed Jay, Graphium agamemnon, looks like it is studded with emeralds. It rarely rests with wings open, though. I imaged this specimen in "Butterfly Magic," an exhibit at Tucson Botanical Gardens in Arizona. The species occurs naturally in India, Asia, and northern Australia.
