Professional Graphic Designer www.jairobackes.com
No I did not become a graphic designer or better photographer overnight, so I want to give credit where credit due. All these wonderful product pages are done by my super talented Web Designer Steve McKinnis, he takes my crappy photos and somehow make them look this awesome. I'm not sure becoming my marketing director was what he had in mind when he took on this project, but he's stuck now........ If you're ever in need of a professional web designer and realized your brother-in law's second cousin really does not have the skills needed to create an effective professional looking web site , look Steve up, he's amazingly talented, has reasonable rates and is easy to work with. He actually took the time to learn about my particular industry and needs and I could not be happier with the outcome. He’s a master at code; my web site came up in all the major search engines within days.

– anyway, what is a graphic designer but a cutter & paster?
I stumbled on a blogger, Silvia, she seems to have experience in this matter, – sure had to laugh out loud – I guess I score well over 40 out of 50, my husband agrees
50 reasons not to date a graphic designer:
1. They are very weird people.
2. There are billions of them in the world, like colors on the screen of your computer.
3. They will analyse conversations in layers.
4. You will spend the day assembling furniture from IKEA.
5. They drink and eat all kinds of weird shit just because they like the packaging.
6. They hate each other.
7. You’ll come out the last out of the movies because you have to see the full list of credits.
8. They can't change a light bulb without making a sketch.
9. They fuck up all the tables with their cutters.
10. They rather study the paisley pattern on your outfit than listen to what you have to say.
11. They will fill your house with magazines and whatever is out there that has drawings.
12. You never know if it is really an original or a copy.
13. They make collages with your photos.
14. They do not know how to add and subtract, they just understand letters.
15. They idolize people who nobody knows and speak of them as if they were his colleagues.
16. They take pictures almost daily and all are cut in weird shapes.
17. They ask your opinion about everything but they do whatever they want.
18. Everything is left justified, right or center unless they arrive late.
19. They hate Comic Sans with the same passion they love Helvetica.
20. They use iPhone for everything, because everyone has one.
21. You can not decorate the house without consulting them.
22. They steal street signs.
23. Always carry their hands painted with something.
24. They buy dolls unfinished for them to paint.
25. Everything becomes something other than what it really is: cards as tickets, cards as …
26. When arguing, you will be nicknamed like the OSX spinning wheel (not affectionately)
27. Do not know how to dress without consulting the Pantone book.
28. They hate Excel.
29. They read comics.
30. They want to save the world only with a poster.
31. You will spend the day brainstorming.
32. On vacation they will take you to countries that you do not know exist and have no beach.
33. Museums are their second home.
34. They know more positions than the Kamasutra.
35. They can’t go to a restaurant without secretly critiquing the menu design.
36. They listen to music you have never heard of.
37. They can´t cook a normal dish, they always have to experiment with new ingredients.
38. They read rare books: stories of children, Semiotics …
39. When you are going to tell you something, everyone has read it in their facebook and twitter.
40. They had own iPads before you knew they existed.
41. The orgasm they remember is when they heard that Adobe was acquiring Macromedia.
42. They have their own shops just for them and there are the most expensive in the city.
43. They want to spend all the money in the Apple Store.
44. You will never understand their gifts.
45. They see ordinary objects and laugh.
46. You wake up in the middle of the night hearim them screaming “When is the deadline?”
47. They see CMYK and RGB like Neo sees the Matrix.
48. They dream of the day nobody will make a single change to their designs.
49. They rather pay for a font than for a special birthday gift.
50. They are always sleepy because they work 24/7.

Based on a poster deign by the Japanese graphic designer Ikko Tanaka.
Made from predominantly Kona cotton solids (black, natural, and surf are the only names I know for sure), with the backing fabric given to me as a gift by my sister.
I decided to add concentric arc quilting in the hair and face of the geisha to play with the otherwise stark linear geometry. I also added a hanging sleeve on the back (still to be hand stitched down) because I think of all the quilts I've made, this works best as a wall hanging.
I'm so happy with how this turned out! More construction and process details can be found on my blog.
Here is some of the work done by one of our graphic designers here in the Communications office. This work was done for our Conversations with a Living Legend series.
Dallas: Ben Crenshaw
A Conversation With a Living Legend® in Dallas, the original living legend event, celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2014. The Nov. 3 event surpassed its $1 million fundraising goal for the second consecutive year and for the fourth time in its history. Benefiting the Moon Shots Program, MD Anderson’s ambitious action plan to end cancer, the event honored professional golfer and two-time Masters Champion Ben Crenshaw. PETER SAVILLE: is an internationally renowned graphic designer and art director. He first made his mark as a graphic artist designing record sleeves for Manchester based Factory Records, which he co-founded in 1978 alongside Tony Wilson and Alan Erasmus. Born in Hope Hospital, Salford in 1955, Peter spent his formative years living in Hale. Amongst others, he designed the record sleeve artwork for many of the Factory artists, most notably for Joy Division and New Order, as well as being responsible for the poster design for the Hacienda (FAC 51). Saville's trademark yellow and black striped design has become the unofficial civic colours of Manchester. Peter received a CBE in the Queen’s 2020 New Year Honours list.
GREATER MANCUNIANS is a Manchester College student led landmark photography project (supported by Manchester City Council). It features those people born, bred, or who have made their home within the current Greater Manchester boundary and who have in some way culturally shaped the city and its surrounding boroughs.
The project will be published and exhibited in a major city centre exhibition in 2021/22.

The Old Music Library (Church St, Brighton, BN1 1VE) - a grand building and redevelopment project long shelved by the credit crisis - has found a new lease of life as an art gallery and venue, Prescription Art.
Part of a set of photographs documenting some parts of the varied Brighton White Night / Nuit Blanche. The celebration was held on the night of 24/25 October 2009, the date that the clocks "go back" an hour (a change from British Summer Time to Greenwich Mean Time - a daylight saving measure).
White Nights were originally a northern latitude midsummer all night drinking festivals in places like Saint Petersburg (where the summer nights are so short that it never really gets dark). More recently - probably originating in Berlin and Paris - and spreading throught Europe (and then subsequently cities world wide) - the idea has spread as an Autumn or Winter arts based festival.
In french the expression "nuit blanche" is used to describe a night without sleep - either through partying - or just because of insomnia.
He is an extremely talented photographer and graphic designer. This week @xartfuldodger is officially graduating from VCAD here in #Vancouver. I couldn't be more proud of him. His growth in GD in the past year and a half is unreal. I believe in him and can't wait for him to start his career may not be there along side you for your entire Portfolio Show but I will be there for a bit and I will be thinking you the entire time. I hope you get the opportunity to meet some potential employers and they fall in love with your work and personality! Love you. Never give up. #VCAD #graduation #grownup #graphicdesigner #graphicdesign #photographer #YVR #vancity #beards #menwithbeards #beardedmen #lumberjack

Long day at school again. We started editing more of our 384 portraits in Digital Image tonight. I'm liking that class :)
This isn't too creative of a shot, sorry. However, I thought all the colors and variety of pens were a good example of a graphic designer's bag =P There are multiple types of markers and sharpies in there too haha.
Various props used in the HP movies, like school books, handwritten letters and packaging for Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes. It must've been so fun designing these -- as a graphic designer I'd say this was one of my favorite parts of the exhibit!
Hello, hello:)
Together with Johannes Krtek, graphic designer and a friend of mine, I founded the publishing house «elle même» to work on (photo-)book projects that makes us (and hopefully other people) happy.
This book is the first of the series «même photo» and we hope that there are many more to come.
It was such a long way to go from making the selection of the photographs, the paper, the words … a few personal setbacks in between have slowed down the process, but now it is (almost) done.
We are still working on the website (elle-meme.at) but the book will be soon available online and in selected bookshops. I will keep you updated.
(If you want to get your copy asap, you can also drop me a line here or write to: ecrire@elle-meme.at)

«J’ai photographié ma familie, mes ami(e)s, le paysage autour.»
(‘I‘ve photographed my family, my friends and the surrounding landscape.’)
The book features 47 black-and-white photographs by Hugues Erre (*1950) taken in the 1970s to the 1990s mainly in the South of France, Paris and Berlin.
The title ‘Lieu commun’ refers to the simplicity of common life in shared places, the lived everyday, where we don’t expect anything extraordinary to happen .
Hugue Erre shows us such places in a radically sober and yet virtuous way; full of longing and with a certain feeling for the ephemeral; in a way that makes us want to be there ourselves.
In such a way that it makes us miss the moment that we actually never experienced.
