Health professionals and advocates ask

Mayor Bloomberg:

Request adequate assistance from

FEMA and the Department of Health and Human Services

to address urgent post-Sandy health concerns

Two and a half weeks after Hurricane Sandy struck, the

affected areas continue to have urgent, unmet medical

and public health needs. FEMA and HHS officials have

told volunteer doctors, nurses and health advocates that

the federal government’s hands are tied until the city

government requests more assistance from Albany,

which then requests assistance from Washington, D.C.

We ask that the city immediately request

resources from the state and federal governments to:

• Send assistance to Staten Island—to this date the city

has not requested FEMA’s presence there

• Provide life-saving medications and supplies such as

portable nebulizers, glucometers… etc.

• Provide financial and human resources to rebuild

existing community health care infrastructures

The participants of “National Diabetes Educator Program” (NDEP) 2016 batch organized a Diabetes Awareness Camp and a Free Diabetes Detection Drive at Calicut Beach, Kerala, on World Diabetes Day. 20 students organized a spectacular camp where they provided individualized counseling to patients with Diabetes with the help of colorful charts. They screened about 500 people with glucometer. A heart friendly food exhibition was arranged along with it.

Part of a Canada-wide launch of the One Touch glucometer.

I did not decorate myself for my morning walk because of the rains that now have become a pain in the butt.

I hate carrying an umbrella but I have to or my Rumi cap will get wet.

At #WarodaRoad I have a chicken pattice at Kim and Mary a nice East Indian bakery that belongs to my friend Cletus from Ranwar.

I am still wearing the Continuous Glucose Monitor Libre Pro.. My second week it reads my blood sugar but at the same time I use the Glucometer too.

I have to maintain a blood sugar reading log and my food intake log.

I am being treated by Dr Manoj Chadha of PD Hinduja hospital Mahim.

He is a famous endocrinologist a very humble person.. I was earlier about 3 years back being treated by PadmashriDr Shashank Joshi diabetologist at Lilavati Hospital.

Nothing like seeing a number, GASPING, and then realizing you forgot to take your 2 meds - 1 that produces insulin and 1 that lowers sugar - OOPS. FAIL. Bad Diabetic!!!

On a side note, these are my new favorite snack. Just half of the bar is VERY filling and only 6 carbs, 4 sugars and has 3.5 grams of protein! Even if you want the entire bar (which I can't eat - way too heavy), it is a good diabetic snack!
