A global network of centres of excellence in marine technology was officially launched on Monday (4 December) at the headquarters of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
The Directors of five regional Maritime Technology Cooperation Centres (MTCCs) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the global maritime technology centre network.
The network of MTCCS - in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Pacific - is the mainstay of the GMN maritime technology project, run by IMO and funded by the European Union.
In the era of globalization, communication has become the most significant factor. In a densely populated country like Bangladesh, tele communication can play vital role to boost the economy and social level of people.
It is a common scene in Bangladesh that lower income people own a cell phone with the handset of Transnational Corporation, which sells for a minimum $50. The number of mobile phone subscribers in Bangladesh reached 70.340 million till January this year against 53.83 million of the corresponding period of previous year. Whether it is in the cities or the rural areas, and especially among university students, the cell phone has become a priority. It is generally accepted that those in the higher income bracket will be habituated to the global consumer culture. However, when the poor displays similar propensity for expensive goods and services with their level of income, it indicates that the social system is taking a new form.

Info (SP): En mayo de 2024 se estrenaron los primeros vehiculos Sunsundegui en la historia de la empresa Global. Estas seis unidades se adquirieron a modo de prueba y de refuerzo puesto que las unidades CS-40 Magnus y Magnus II empiezan a sufrir su edad y sus millones de kilometros
Info (EN): In May 2024 Global launched their first ever Sunsundegui-bodied vehicles. These six buses were purchased to test the coach builder and due to the CS-40 Magnus and Magnus II buses starting to show the aches and pains of their age and millions of kilometres travelled.
Twenty six young people from across the UK are getting the chance to report on key global issues to their peers for the next six months thanks to funding from UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID).
The team, known as ‘Write Here, Right Now’, are aged between 13 and 19 and finished their initial training with experienced media professionals last week. Armed with new skills and a new social networking platform, the team are geared up to raise awareness and encourage young people to speak up for their world on international development issues at: www.writehererightnow.org.
