In the beginning, I was only trying to enlarge the original Gingerbread House from Lego, but step by step it evolved into something more original and creative!
One side shows what the House will look like when complete, the other shows the actual construction, directed by two creative pastry chefs!
Breakfast Gingerbread (adapted from Sunset Magazine, some years ago)
6 T unsalted butter, softened
½ c brown sugar
¼ c peeled, grated fresh ginger
2 T molasses
1 large egg
1 t vanilla extract
1½ cups unbleached flour
2 t freshly grated orange zest
1 t baking powder
1 t ground cinnamon
½ t salt
½ t ground allspice
¼ t baking soda
½ c dried cranberries
½ c chopped walnuts
1¼ cups buttermilk
Yield: 10 servings. 279 calories; 12 g fat, 5 g protein, ?? g carb, 3 g fiber, 42 mg chol.,
Preheat oven to 350° F
Beat butter in a large bowl with a mixer at high speed for 30 seconds. Add the sugar, fresh ginger, and molasses and beat 1 minute. Add the egg and vanilla; beat until combined.
Whisk together the flour and the next 6 ingredients. Stir in the cranberries and walnuts. Add the flour mixture and buttermilk alternately to the butter mixture (beginning and ending with the flour mixture). Stir until just combined.
Pour the batter into a 9x5 prepared loaf pan. Bake for 75 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then remove to a wire rack.

gingerbread people come out when winter hits.
I made this as part of a Christmas garland for a swap. I adjusted this pattern

Very quick and simple designs but they did the job !
The "cupcakes" were in fact little boiled fruit cakes covered in marzipan and fondant icing.
this had 9 battery packs for the lights, for the marquees had 4 , store lights 2, under the ciling in the box office area had 2 and the mini spot lights had 1.
When I was young, my mother started a tradition of building a gingerbread house every year. After we moved out of the house, the tradition was lost for several years, until this year when our kids got the opportunity to reestablish it.

Someone in my office brought in gingerbread cookies. The icing stuck them all together. It was like a giant cookie orgy! What isn't to love about that?

Constructed by a retired military man, not a professional baker, or architect. Steve saw a gingerbread house one day and thought, "I could make one of those." Now look what he can whip up. Castle has lighted hard tack windows. Turrets were baked over a pipe. Gingrbread dough was rolled up in log type strips, then stacked. See the side view on the details link.
Festival started auction at $1250 and people still bidding higher at the 8pm bell.
My Grandson & I baked some Gingerbread Men yesterday, this is one of the little fellows. He had so much fun! :)

well i didn't actually finish this years gingerbread house :( (actually nowhere near finished) and my littlest one helped it along to the trash. she decided that the chimney shouldn't be attatched to the house and when that was removed the roof fell off. so with much sadness i took pictures of the aftermath, and off to the trash it went.
Every year Dorise bakes gingerbread houses, then assembles them. Then on the next night, tomorrow, the kids all come over and they decorate them.
