Route 66 Restaurant in Axminster. No idea what it’s like – we didn’t eat there.
Processed in onOne’s Perfect Effects, with the Omaha Beach filter at a slightly reduced percentage. Also used a colour adjust with a mask to darken the sign, as the reflections had rather spoiled it.
I think i've finally lost my mind! School's insane. The interpretation of this may be a bit farfetched due to that. I was hoping to use an apple, but now that i'm a college student i realize things that you want aren't always accessible, which explains the pepper. Over top the pepper sits one of my books. I started by shooting this as a tunnel but then it came to me the light cascading through the window added to the shot. Basic meaning of the picture is although school's rough right now the small reward is good grades and the final reward is graduating although thats a couple years away. Hopefully this makes sense to someone hahahahah.
NEOBALLS / ZEN MAGNETS - Neodymium Magnetic Balls (@4205) - Starcraft II's Massive Thor
This is my most complex and largest build to date.
It was designed in parts: Cockpit body, then legs, then arms, then rear guns. Then I had to redesign parts when it came time to assemble it together because of incorrect bonding assumptions and misalignment of magnet fields.
Experimented with x-beam coupled bonds to get the maximum lateral strength with reinforcements on the sides. This proved to be very string. Created a X-Beam using similar methods producing a very strong leg structure. It was capable of support the entire weight of the cockpit body w/o a problem. Had to redesign the leg to cockpit body mount point from the earlier concept because the bond was not completely coupled.
Next up were the arm/guns ... the weight was too much for the cockpit body to support so I fashioned a pair of lego-platforms for them to rest on and take the weight off of the central body.
Finally ... the rear guns ... these were a challenge in that their original mount point design had to be reworked also to make them fit correctly into the rear of the cockpit body. I changed the mount points on the guns to fit the space on both sides and added a few support balls to improve the mount point bonds. I was very surprised how they were balanced and supported only by two point sections to the body. The guns stayed in place for a small series of photos.
The design flaw was in the side bonds of the beam to the legs. The coupled field held nicely for a short amount of time and would have held if it didn't have the weight of the rear guns to support. When they were standing upright and straight, all was good. As soon as I attempted to move the platform forward (to take a video), the rear guns tilted slightly backwards and and that was the end of the leg to body support bonds ... and created the dreaded implosion.
The rear gun weight caused the entire central body section to rotate backwards and fall back on the rear guns ... taking the arms in the process. Perhaps I should have created a Lego-support structure for the rear guns to remove the pendulum force backwards ... but that would have created another view blocker like the side Lego-platforms obstructed the view of the legs and feet. Not sure if I can recreate it for a rotational video ... this took over a week (on/off to design and assemble).
Overall ... I was very happy with the result ... hope I captured enough detail to warrant some visual recognition as a Starcraft II Thor reproduction/interpretation.
This was design and built for the Zen Magnets Contest 26: The Massive Thor

Did this photo for the "get pushed" group. My push this week was from the creative Aartje_S who can make even fences and benches look amazing. THis is what she said:
"I think for you, I'd like to see something in B+W that's a little edgy and gritty. Perhaps a street scene - just try for gritty rather than pretty."
Well, I told her I had no idea how to do this, so it was a perfect push. Game on.
Found a rusting light standard outside a parking garage.
Downloaded Photomatix essentials to mess around with HDR and was able to add some different feeling to this photo. Had to keep reminding myself to stay away from "pretty"
Thanks for the push, I learned a lot!
Trying to only use scraps
I'll end up bringing fq's of neutrals.
I felt like I was skimping but looking at this pic I realize I already am planning on bringing way too much.
I've realized I suck at packing

“I’m a mature student. I went to a different university when I was younger, but didn’t manage to finish. I did a string of jobs, all of which I hated, for over ten years. The thought of having to do that for the rest of my life just made me realise that I needed to change something - it meant getting my degree.
As an undergraduate, I was out for a friend’s birthday. I took a taxi home with friends, but got dropped off on Hyde Park Corner as they lived further down the road. I was two minutes from my house. As I walked home, I realised there was somebody following me. I hadn’t noticed him at first because he’d been hiding in the park, waiting. He assaulted me. I screamed, shouted and scrapped. It was on a residential street and I think he lost his nerve. He ran off, leaving me in a hedge. Dazed, confused – I didn’t know which street I was on, they all look the same round there. I rang my housemate and told her what had happened. Before I could try to describe where I was my phone battery died. Desperate to get into a safe environment, I knocked on the door of the house whose garden I was in. It was a woman living on her own. She called her boyfriend who came and drove me home. I’m so grateful to her. Imagine someone knocking on your door at 3am in the morning - who would open it? I’m sad that I never got the nerve to go back and thank her properly.
I had a female officer interview me afterwards. That was a horrible and humiliating experience. I can understand now why some women decide they can’t face going to court. All of the questions were like: ‘How short was your skirt?’, ‘How high were your heels?’, ‘How much had you had to drink?’ It just felt like everything was geared towards saying: ‘What did you do to make this happen to you?’ They checked the CCTV footage and found me getting out of the taxi, but then lost sight of me as I walk onto the adjacent road. They circulated his description, but a few weeks later they rang to tell me they’d found nothing. I haven’t heard anything since. As far as I know, he’s still out there.
The whole experience made me frightened, like I’d never been before. I went into hiding, I’d only go out if I had my housemate with me. For a very long time I didn’t go out after dark. I lost all my confidence, stopped wearing makeup and nice clothes. I know it wasn’t logical, but trying to make myself look more attractive made me feel more vulnerable so I tried to make myself invisible. I didn’t feel safe in an area I’d come to think of as home for a very long time. I was in the middle of my studies, with piles and piles of essays to hand in. I ended up having health issues, due to the stress of everything. Eventually my doctor told me that my body was telling me that I wasn’t coping, and that I needed to do something about the pressure I was under. I felt I had no choice but to give up my studies. I always regretted not being able to finish. Which is why I’m here, back again, to complete what I started, all those years ago.
I had walked that same route countless times before. I always knew that I shouldn’t really. I thought I was safe, thinking ‘there’s always people around.’ You hear stories, but you never think it’s going to happen to you. Even when it was happening, I was thinking, ‘Is this actually happening!?’ I know it wasn’t my fault but the repercussions were so massive, I just want people to know that it’s really not worth taking those kinds of risks.”
This one I thought would be a good magazine cover. Intentionally left copy space at the top for a logo. My intention was to focus on healthy eating for the new year.

This old house was recently bought by some friends of mine and they are fixing it up to live in. Can't wait to see what it's going to look like when it's finish.
The enormous Hitachi 1200 started casting basin excavation at the SR 520 Pontoon Construction Project site in Aberdeen May 2, 2011. The excavator has an 8-yard bucket and can fill a standard dump truck in one scoop.
This was the first time I had seen and photographed these guys.
This shot was taken with the 500mm and a Canon 1.4x teleconverter on a Wimberley head & Gitzo tripod set up. Amazing stuff.
Having some Lawn Fawn fun.

It's been ages since I uploaded anything - I'm just not taking many photos these days. Anyway, this one is of Abby getting a new haircut from her Mummy.
Lumi and Narnia chasing after Teddy, my sister's Labrador pup.
Too bad it was raining quite heavily.
I also mananged to get my camera to lock up, this time with an error code, so it's going back in the shop real soon.

Arriva Kent & Surrey 6402 (GN04 UDP) has been treated to WiFi fitment, joining the Safeguard bus fleet which also has WiFi.
I suspect this will have been some sort of initiative for the Uni service, which is fair enough, and people do like WiFi. However, in the wider scheme of things, WiFi on a bus which is used pretty much only the 38 and 101, which have an end to end journey time of no more than ten minutes (or occasionally the 3 which is about 20) may not be that useful!
That said, Olympian illness means Tunbridge Wells Volvo B7TL/Wright Eclipse Gemini 6125 (LJ51 DHK) is currently on loan to Guildford and in use on the 38, displacing 6402 elsewhere (presumably Green Bus school duties).
