A little playtime in the lightbox tonight. I've owned poor Getter Black for most of 2008 and have never taken a photo of him. He deserved the spotlight.

In-camera double exposure - one with flash to the top right, a second with flash pointed at the ceiling. Only photoshopping is the eyes, which I don't think I did very well...

'everybody wanna be fly... ...till you swat em!"

Went back to the forest in search of Lyre Birds, I found this male dancing and singing on his mound about 400 metres off the path. It took me about 15 minutes to get close enough to him to take the picture. The tags are used to track the birds age and their whereabouts.

I am going away for three weeks to France, armed with camera and tripod. I will not be accessing Flickr during that time. So, please enjoy the rest of July. See you in August!

Oli loves to dive for stones on the river bed. This is a small one compared to some that he picks out of the rivers he jumps into.

Fall is (unfortunately) also a season of first colds and flu, so I made few get well cards. I used Small variety alphabeth to compose a sentiment and sweet apple image from Designer fruis clear set. Tfl

On my way west for the cab ride of a lifetime, I sought out some carriers that I have never photographed.

The KB&S is one such road. It was a Sunday evening and the railroad was quiet. Crews were home enjoying family time while the railroad's power rested for work on Monday.

The track layout near the office intrigued me. I can only imagine what this line was like to fan when Alcos ruled the rails. Like some of you, I am kicking my own ass for not visiting this unique railroad when 251 prime movers belched spent diesel.

A quick stop by the shops allowed me to get beaved by a pair of former GP40s, now normally aspirated. They certainly are not the RS-11s or C420s that once called these tracks home.

Midnight has always stolen Ben's underwear, but this game has evolved. He now tries to pull Ben's underpants off from around his ankles while Ben is sitting on the toilet : )))

The dark areas on those underpants are Midnight's saliva. It takes a lot of pulls to accomplish this feat!

See Midnight's sock steal technique in the 1st comment.

"Double the Trouble!"

Here is another set of rock' em sock 'em hummingbird territorial disputes. During the last 2 weeks of August we put out a couple of flowering plants and a feeder that attract all pollinators, but especially hummingbirds. The nectars really help them bulk up before their incredibly long journeys back south for the winter. It's a very special time of year because we don't live where there are numerous hummingbirds.... but they begin to come down from the mountains as they migrate south and we get to enjoy those little birds that like to stop by our flowers and feeder. I get up very early every morning and make sure the feeder is clean and full of the sugar water they love. I usually get buzzed by at least one hummer waiting for breakfast. They are full of attitude...or as I like to call it...."BIRDitude!" The light usually hits the feeding area around 7:30 am, and out the door we go. It's a long walk to where we sit.....about 3 feet! This summer the challenge has been to capture 2 hummingbirds engaged with each other. It's always fun and frustrating at the same time. The rewards are worth the time and foul language! Here is another set of various species having non lethal disputes.

I spent the weekend getting all the Christmas decorations out and will spend the next several days getting my home decked out for the upcoming Christmas holiday. After I plugged in some lights to see if they worked I decided to take a break and take some shots.

Hope your Thanksgiving holiday was a good one. Have a great week :-)

And now I can get the steps cleaned off easier :) Had to take a photo of my shoveling job and his snow blower handiwork.

Thanks honey!

I will thank you in advance for any comment or fave on my image as I may not always have the time to get back.
