Grizzly bears prefer to eat the fattiest parts of salmon that contain the most calories, including the skin, brain and eggs. Here, a grizzly bear, sitting in the river, holds a salmon between its claws, gets a firm grip on a piece of salmon skin with its teeth and pulls hard to remove the skin.

Here in The South west of England we are getting off lightly as the storm largely passes north of us.

Storm Babet batters large parts of country.

A rare red weather alert issued by the Met Office warning of a "danger to life from fast flowing or deep floodwater" has been extended until midnight on Saturday.

More disruption is expected elsewhere across the UK, with amber warnings for wind and rain issued for parts of northern England, the Midlands and northern Wales until 6am on Saturday.

The Environment Agency has issued 150 flood warnings - in areas where flooding is expected - and 194 flood alerts, where flooding is possible.

"Getting back into shape after taking time off to wallow in depression is NOT easy! Still, despite feeling like a poor job of embalming for about a week, "things" are regaining their proper shape."

One of the “biggest challenges” is photographing light sculptures ...

because most of the time you don't get the original colors because bright light colors become white or the room becomes proportionally too dark ... and the effect achieved by the artists is not revealed ...

I am satisfied with this picture ... I hope you are too ...

Sometimes when out on photography excursions, we just get lucky. I spotted this young white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck from a distance, and thought it might make for an interesting shot if I incorporated the gnarled, low-hanging branches of an ancient mesquite as a foreground element. I never expected that he would pass through in a pose that almost perfectly mimicked the shape of the branch.

♫Korn feat. Skrillex - "Get Up"

hey, we’re getting close to having the sun back — just a few more days, maybe?

"Getting up close to a particular shadow element is every bit as important as witnessing it and relating to it. This is often quite an emotionally rocky ride, especially given that we may find ourselves without our usual adult skills, at least for a time, because the wounded child in us has surfaced to such a degree that we are looking through those eyes and feeling those feelings. The key is to get as close as possible to that part of ourselves without getting lost in that old worldview, staying emotionally raw even as we name and illuminate what is occuring." -Robert Masters

The ocean moves in to cover what it left empty hours ago as a storm makes its final stand. A lone cloud hovers above the ocean poised and balanced for what will next arise.

Is it just me, or is it getting crazier out there?

I got lucky when we picked up the car at the Bournemouth International Centre as the carpark has pretty much empty and I was able to get a shot without risking being run over!

now is the time to gather up and let your teammates know you are ready to play and spirits area running high for both teams, at this point, just before the game starts (the opening kickoff).

Anna showing what a great doggy she is(when she wants to be);

So I get up this morning... have breakfast, do my thing... get dressed, put on lipstick, tie my hair back, etc... drive downtown, pay for my parking, walk to the office and... Surprise! Guess who's "not wanted on the voyage" today?

Well... it's not that they don't want me. Just that they don't need me. At least not for the time being. So... home again home again, lickety split.

I did this one in a hurry... and it shows! And... yeah, I know, lots of distracting background stuff... and the window's too bright... etc. etc. But hey... in all likelihood, I have to go back to the office soon. So I don't have much time to waste on these shenanigans. (Hmm... I seem to be channeling an elderly man today... for some reason... Next thing you know, I'll be referring to myself as a couple of whippersnappers!)

5Z99 Long Marston - Leicester approaches Lea Marston, my taking the arty viewpoint was mostly to do with getting shelter from the rain, which was sheeting down directly into the camera. 43048 and 50049 also present, The combo made a fantastic noise accelerating away from Water Orton.

My buddy Jim Salge and I hiked to Victor Head to shoot the foliage. Unfortunately there is a tree right in the middle of the rock outcropping making it difficult to get a clean pano. So to get this shot: flic.kr/p/zyesAu we used our tripod as a camera boom. This is him getting his version of the shot.

For next couple of days there will be fall photos only:)
