Our twin daughters turned one on the Centennial which made the day very special! Made my first trip to the UP to hike Pictured Rocks. Thanks to my wife and to all the chapters for their hard work maintaining the trail.

The trickster coyote often works in a group to overwhelm and/or snatch from their prey.

One trick I find fascinating is when one (usually the youngest or smallest coyote) acts like they are tame, injured, or even playful. Meanwhile, the rest of the group flanks you while you take photos…

Death Valley, CA really has some hardened (and beautiful) coyotes.

My wife Candice and I set out this past year to complete the full Pennsylvania trail hike from the Ohio / Pennsylvania state line to the Pennsylvania / New York line. We began our journey back in January 2016 and periodically on weekends or work days off we hiked as much as possible. We should have finished our 100 miles sooner but, circumstances throughout the year caused a delay in the completion as we finished Christmas Eve 2016. This year 2017 we hope to complete the full hike of Pennsylvania from where we left off this year. This will ensure us to complete another 100 miles for 2017 as well. This 100 mile hike that we completed was a great experience of getting to enjoy the peace and tranquility of nature.

I began my challenge on January 5th (my 65th birthday) retracing part of the Shoe Year's Day Hike in the Yankee Springs Recreation Area close to our home in Holland, Michigan. In July my hiking buddy and I did the Jordan River Pathway. Two hikes in August coincided with my dog Maddy's rehab appointments in Rockford, MI. Milo (Maddy's brother) and I hiked the White Pine Trail and the Rogue River State Game Area section (too much gun fire!), I decided to finish the 100 mile challenge by completing the 42.4 mile Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore trail to challenge my hiking legs and my backcountry camping abilities. Trying to stay local, the gap was filled with the Battle Creek section and the Paul Henry trail in Middleville. 1 day - hiking in the rain, 1/2 day at the Munising Urgent Care Center for a hatchet accident to my thumb, 2 days of cloudless skies, and the last day of muddy trail near Munising Falls and I was done!!! Great goal, great memories, great challenge. Thank you!

My wife and I first took note of the NCT when we were on a short 2 mile hike on part of the trail for geocaching this summer. After a few weeks of discussing and researching the NCT we decided to start hiking segments of it with a 20 year goal of completing all of it (hopefully before we are 70). We started the "official" work on our end-to-end hike in late August, starting at the NCTA headquarters, buying some maps, and then hiking north to Fallasburg Park. Over the next weeks we vacationed up north and completed a county (Antrim), joined a group hike, and continued sections north of Lowell. It was surprising to notice how we were acclimating to the hiking as the miles built up. We just completed our 100th mile today with a 5.6 mile hike, ending at the start of the Rogue River State Game Area at Long Lake Park. We're looking forward to putting our first achievement badge onto our hiking packs - just over 2% of the trail done for us.

Hiking the North Country Trail on Oct. 16 north of Lake Owen in Bayfield Co, WI my wife and I hiked through a 1.5 mile section of sugar maples trees in full golden color. The canopy was like golden stars and the maple shrubs carpeted the forest floor with thousands of gold sparks. A magical moment on the North Country Trail.

Dry Tortugas National Park is located about 70 miles west of Key West in the Gulf of Mexico. The park preserves Fort Jefferson and the seven Dry Tortugas islands, the westernmost and most isolated of the Florida Keys. It can only be reached Accessible only by boat or seaplane. The park is one of the countries least visited parks, certainly due to its remote nature. There is camping available but advance reservations are required.

Fort Jefferson National Monument was designated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt under the Antiquities Act in 1935. The monument was expanded in 1983 and redesignated as Dry Tortugas National Park in 1992.

Dr. Samuel Mudd who was charged with conspiracy in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln was imprisoned at Fort Jefferson. He was pardoned in 1869 after averting a viral outbreak.

Dry Tortugas has an official bird list of 299 species, bird watching is best in the spring many species are migrating through.

There is not a lot of hiking in Dry Tortugas, but make sure to brink your snorkeling gear, because water activities are plentiful.

I'm part of a local veterans group - Team Red, White, and Blue - whose mission it is to enrich veterans’ lives through social and physical activity. We do all manner of things, running, triathlons, rucking, and of course hiking and backpacking. One of my fellow teammates from Lansing heard about the challenge and we decided to take up and see how many of our fellow teammates we could also drag along. Starting out, I had a vague knowledge of what the NCT was, and I had hiked parts of it in the Porcupine Mountains and Manistee National Forest, but just by coincidence of where I was. I had never sought out the trail or really knew the full extent of it. And so on the last day of January me and my buddy set off into the snow covered trails and the rest, as they say, is history. It was a great experience and I certainly do not intend to stop hiking the trail now that the challenge is over. Plus, we only got pulled over by the Police once (in Rockford)!

Last Christmas my daughter, Hannah, and I gave the gift of a commitment to meet the Challenge 100 goal of 100 miles on the NCT. We started in February of 2015 and just kept going. We had a blast hiking the various trails around our Walker, MN home, taking with us Clover, Hannah's dog, every time, and my wife, Genell, and grandchild, Keeda, sometimes. The blow-down of trees was striking and created many obstacles. Fortunately we live almost on top of the trail and access was easy. We are a 2 Subaru family ('95 Forrester and '13 Forrester) which we used to get further out and back on the trail. We were glad to see Subaru as a sponsor. We found two spots we will visit frequently; they are so beautiful. We are so thankful for this trail and the opportunity it provides to walk these north woods off the vehicle path.

I live 1/2 mile from the section of the NCT that passes through the City of Marquette and have spent many happy hours pushing strollers, pulling sleds, riding slowly while a training wheel child huffs and puffs along with mommy and daddy. I love where we live and that stretch of trail is a big part of it. I set off this spring with the intent to do the NCT from the bridge to MQT (in segments ) and maybe not all this year. I really enjoyed the section up to M-26/Soldier Lake which I did in two consecutive weekends.....over did in two consecutive weekends. Tore my achilles tendon and had to lay up for two months. UGH! So the second 1/2 of my 100 where all done on day hikes with the kids or even just taking the long way home from work.

I’ve been having some fun lately with reflections. This cozy little lake house just grabbed my attention as soon as I seen it.

Hiked a few different areas around the state of Michigan including Porcupine Mountains, Jordan Valley, and up around the Petoskey area. We also made a visit to the headquarters in Lowell, Michigan. I hiked with my sister in-law and her daughter, what a great adventure. Had a few hikes with my husband and our dog; it's a great bonding time. Hope to continue on this adventure throughout my life.
