My buddy Jim Salge and I hiked to Victor Head to shoot the foliage. Unfortunately there is a tree right in the middle of the rock outcropping making it difficult to get a clean pano. So to get this shot: flic.kr/p/zyesAu we used our tripod as a camera boom. This is him getting his version of the shot.
Every trip to Brockville yielded a wealth of interesting trains to photograph. Here on 12 June 1983 VIA train 53, the Lakeshore accelerates out of the station and across Perth Street with lead FPA4 No. 6791 puffing out turbo lag smoke while a GMD F9B assists.

Fuji X-E3 plus Samyang tele lens (fixed at F6.3). This mirror reflex lens has something in common with the Hubble and the James-Webb Space Telescopes, at least the basic mirror technology. Whereas these space telescopes have a fabulous resolution, the same can not be said of this lens. Still, the images produced with this lens can be satisfying (as long as magnification is not expected).

In 1968, the first Christmas of our married life, we bought this set of wooden ornaments. I spent some time painting them and they were the first ornaments on our first tree as a married couple. Today they are still much loved and still the first ornaments to go on the tree.

It is rutting season and the bucks are getting active sparring for dominance. These two young bucks went at it for awhile this morning.

Sometimes, all that is needed to be noticed, is to reach a little higher, be a little hungrier, work a little harder than the crowd.
Sand Hill Cranes are quite a treat for me to see, since there aren't many near where I live. It's always at least a half hour drive to hope to catch a glmpse of them, and then it's hit or miss, unless of course, I happen to drive a little farther south to the Brevard Zoo, where this lovely bird resides!
Sand Hill Cranes are striking, but also very large and impressive creatures. The first time you see one and stand near it, you realize just how much bigger than most of the other birds in Florida they are. In fact, the only birds I've seen to rival their size, are the almost prehistoric looking Florida Woodstorks. These guys pretty much dwarf the usual herons and egrets seen commonly in the Daytona Beach area.
On the day this picture was taken, it was close to 100 degrees in the shade! I was on my way out of the zoo, unable to stand the heat anymore, when I happened on several birds grouped together, from vultures to eagles, and this crane, so I tried my best to get some good shots, although feeling pretty woozy from the heat! I'm glad I did, but I sure am glad they were all together, or i don't think I could have handled it much longer. Florida in August can be very unpleasant, and the only animals at the zoo that didn't seem to be doing too badly were the water birds, who were huddling close to their pond enclosures so they could cool down as needed!
