not the ideal kind of jump form (and he usually does the more horizontal style), but Biscuit sure gets some height :-)
Getting the muscle out of a razor clam is not an easy exercise as it is sticky, not easy to disconnect from the shell. This red knot knew how to do it, but as many other sandpipers and turnstones, it definitely needed a bath after the meal as parts of the flesh were sticking to its feathers.

After a good trip upriver from La Crosse, westbound wayfreight H19 gets thrown into Lakeview siding to wait out several moves each way before tackling work off the mainline at Lake City, MN. This would conclude our very productive chase of the last Soo Line SD60M on a picture perfect September afternoon over a decade ago.

Least Tern getting pissed!
Note: in no way I harassed this tern, I was actually walking on the beach about 30 yards away from their nesting site. The fact I was holding a camera must have triggered this behavior as many people were on the beach next to me. Barely cropped. Huntingtin Beach(CA)

The juvenile Bald Eagle starts to get some of his white head feathers around the time he is 4 years old, and rarely sooner than that. He may even have a small patch of white feathers on his chest still. He probably will have a completely white head by the time he is 5.5 years old. Some eagles can take up to 8 years to be so white! This image was taken at the Birds of Prey rescue Center in Alberta last year. Happy Wing Wednesday.
to nesting time. This Northern Cardinal is starting to get his bright Red breeding color.

Whether one thinks of this guy as ugly or beautiful, I think that he makes an interesting close up subject.
Scenes like this make my heart race... Taken just a few minutes before sunrise on Rough Ridge. You can see just a bit of the Blue Ridge Parkway there on the right...

Fuji X-E3 plus Samyang tele lens (fixed at F6.3). This mirror reflex lens has something in common with the Hubble and the James-Webb Space Telescopes, at least the basic mirror technology. Whereas these space telescopes have a fabulous resolution, the same can not be said of this lens. Still, the images produced with this lens can be satisfying (as long as magnification is not expected).
Getting praise for an image is always nice, but smeone who tells you the truth is what makes you a better photographer.
That's what happend yesterday, when a friend of mine basically told me in a DM that my processing was horrible. Of course he used much kinder words, but that's what it comes down to, when you are told that you killed all colors in your stars, that your color balance is way off and that the rest of the image is over saturated.
As I suspected that my processing workflow was the main cause and after some much needed reading up, I completely reprocessed the image today.
The result is... Well, judge yourself!
Am Basteir Summit 934m
Am Basteir is a vertically-sided blade of rock whose ascent is only possible for keen scramblers from Bealach a Basteir. Below the summit of the mountain is the remarkable lesser peak of the Basteir Tooth - an imposing fang of rock that can only be reached by rock-climbers.
The Black Cuillin are the most spectacular and challenging mountains in Britain. These are peaks of which dreams are made - and nightmares! Many of their summits require scrambling or even rock-climbing to reach.
