It is found throughout the temperate regions of the world and the mountains of the tropics, but mostly in the eastern part of the Mediterranean region. The long, palmately cleft leaves are broadly circular in form. The flowers have 5 petals and are coloured white, pink, purple or blue, often with distinctive veining. Geraniums will grow in any soil as long as it is not waterlogged. Propagation is by semi-ripe cuttings in summer, by seed, or by division in autumn or spring.
Pelargonium is a genus of flowering plants which includes about 200 species of perennial, succulent, and shrub plants, commonly known as geraniums. Confusingly, Geranium is the correct botanical name of the separate genus which contains the related Cranesbills. Both genera are in the Family Geraniaceae

The sour-tasting sap of the ivy-leaved pelargonium is used traditionally to treat sore throats.The buds and young leaves can be eaten and are thirst quenching. The leaves can be pounded and used as an antiseptic for scratches, wounds, grazes and minor burns. The petals are astringent, and can be used to make a wash for greasy skin. The petals can also be used to make a beautiful, long-lasting, grey-blue dye that can be used for painting or to dye wool or cloth.
‘Geranium endressii’ - common – occasionally
Stoneymeadow Nature Trail on banks beside carpark, near entrance to southern Grove of Brankumhall, margins of Woodside Glen between Glen Quoich and Glen Derry, Margins of Woodhead around Glen Quoich, roadside at Sydes Brae near Dixon’s Dynamite Store. This plant has established itself as truly wild all over the district, and is certainly an alien plant originally derived from gardens. However, some of the locations it is found growing in are a considerable distance from any gardens. The plant is characterised by being similar to the Pencilled Crane’s-bill ‘Geranium versicolor’ but the petals are deep-light pink without dark veins, and the petals more rounded with more shallow notches at tips. Plants found growing at the margins of Woodhead were found to have sharply cut and sharply pointed leaves, which are almost glabrous, this particular plant may be a distinct from ‘Geranium andressii’.

My backyard 10 May 10. This Eurasian invasive is just so pretty I can't bring myself to pull them...besides they just come back.
