Small-flowered crane's-bill, Geranium pusillum (family Geraniaceae) is a diminutive annual or biennial herbaceous weed introduced into North America from Europe. Geranium ovaries are prolonged into a beak. At maturity the beak separates along its length, leaving the 5 carpels at the base, one-seeded, and separate. Eventually the beak coils upward, launching the seeds. This specimen was photographed June 19, 2008 in Marion County, Ohio, USA.

Wild Geranium is considered an astringent, a substance that causes contraction of the tissues and stops bleeding. The Mesquakie Indians brewed a root tea for toothache and for painful nerves and mashed the roots for treating hemorrhoids.
