A bad back dictated that I travel light to the Georgetown, Texas, July 4 festivities. No tripod. I took my long zoom lens, great for the people shots I got, but not the best choice in hindsight for fireworks - especially since the show was bursting literally right over our heads as we sat on the banks of the San Gabriel River. I had to point my Canon 60D, cranked up to ISO 6400 and hand-held, almost straight up, and the 3D effect of "bombs bursting in air" was better than anything in any movie. Congratulations to Georgetown for successfully pulling off a fireworks show when other Central Texas cities bowed to the drought and fire concerns. Well done!

The Georgetown Loop Railroad, built in 1884, connects the old mining towns of Georgetown and Silver Plume. Though only two miles apart, there is a 600 foot difference in the towns' elevations, meaning the train must take a "corkscrew" four-mile route up the canyon.

From a car show in Georgetown. It's kind of a monthly event and only lasts for a couple hours. Where as the cars were very cool and wide variety to look at, that is not my real interest. I am more interested in the gadgets and neat ornaments that you find on the car. So there are no pictures of the cars themselves. There are a couple of really old Harley's here as well.
