Rectangles, circles and octagons, oh, my! Found inside my husband's Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2" P900 when I replaced his micro USB charging port flex cable.

OFTEN THE SIMPLE THINGS ARE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL.

Today Macro Mondays proposes a geometric shape and the sphere in my humble opinion is the essence of perfection also as a solid shape .... not for nothing the pearl is the symbol par excellence of elegance and value.

In Japan, you can also get hot coffee (Hotto Kō-Hī or ホットコーヒー) in a can from almost any vending machine.

I couldn't resist trying one (Kirin Fire) and bringing back the empty can.

With its triangular 3D pattern, it might suggest some industrial oil barrel or something of that kind, but at the same time it looks beautiful like a jewel or a bottle of expensive perfume...

Sashiko stitching is a Japanese tradition used to strengthen and repair cloth. It is usually white stitching on blue cloth. This pattern is called Komenohanazashi - Rice Flower stitch and is on a 1/4 inch grid. There are many many patterns and the stitches should be separate and never overlap. HMM.

Saw this beautiful, custom made vehicle (built for $7,000 in 1921) on its first day of display on the Capitol Mall. Remembered the geometric theme and grabbed a shot.

This is a wire pen holder from my desk - it looks a bit dusty in close up! It was photographed in natural light with LEDs used for the highlights. There's no more than 2 inches on view. I used a macro lens with a 1.4 converter. It's been cropped to 16x9 but otherwise is straight out of the camera.

Flickr Lounge: blurry background (bokeh)

I uploaded earlier images from this sighting, but when I looked at this one I was struck by how many triangles occur in it, as well as the circles in the bokeh background, and decided to upload it as well. The wheelbug is one of the largest true bugs in North America; it can be more than an inch long, with the female generally bigger. Since it preys on pest insects, it is considered a beneficial insect, but like all assassin bugs, it is said to have quite a painful bite (pricking with its beak) if you mishandle it. Sighted on a tree in Southern Indiana.

The pair rushed up this tree pretty quickly while I tried to get good photos before they got too high on the tree. Soon they came upon an insect that the female had seen as potential prey--but I think it was a stinkbug and she tried it and discarded it. Meanwhile they also paused for a few seconds on a spot on the tree that allowed me to put a nice well-lit background behind them and get them in silhouette, which seemed like a better way to show them off since they are so very well camouflaged on this tree.

My wife Sammy's uncle was quite a talented man, and he made this chess table for us over 60 years ago as a wedding present. It consists of some kind of plastic inlays separated by brass strips. It's been quite a few years since we've played chess, but the table has remained standing in one room or another for all those years.

For scale reference, this is a nut that goes on a Presta valve stem on a road bike. It is about 3mm thick and 10mm in diameter.
