It took me longer than planned to complete the trilogy. But here's the third and final instalment of my photographs of Parisi Udvar in Budapest, Hungary.
I previously shared my fortuitous experience visiting the arcade with my parents in May 2012. That piece includes information about the architecture and history of the building.

Nothing special here, just an interesting facia on a parking garage. But, it does illustrate a point. Chicago outshines every other American city that I've seen in the architecture arena. (If you have another canidate, I'd love to check it out) Each building seems to be built to one-up its neighbors, enchance its neighborhood, and draw the viewer's eye towards it. This particularly appealed to me, and is in direct opposition to the 'make all the buildings blend with their neighbors' mentality that you see in too many cities. So, just a parking garage, but the owners went the extra distance to put a unique facia on it so that it was interesting and very pleasing to look at, instead of just another eyesore parking garage. That's what I liked most about Chi-town.
For the month of September, 2009, the MSOE challenge is 'Fractal Geometry'. Fractals are self-similar: their parts mimic (more-or-less) the whole. Some of the exotic species within this mathematical family have precise familiar shapes, like the simplest rectilinear object you could imagine, the triangle. Others have organic lines like coast lines or plants. The fern is a stereotypical example; oblong leaves with branch off of veins which in turn branch off of other veins, in a self-similar manner.
In this mono print, I am comparing and contrasting the aspect of self-similarity, by combining a block printed Sierpiński Triangle (the holes in which could in theory continue ad infinitum, but being human, there is a practical limit to what can be carved) and a printed fern leaf.
During July's After Dark event guests enjoyed the Exploratorium's new Geometry Playground exhibition as well as mesmerizing aerial performances by TrapezeWorld.

I enjoy all forms of math, so photographing math seems to be a natural fit for me. Just in case you were missing the slope intercept form, here's a graphical representation of it.

My designs start with one of my photographs. I am compelled to immortalize and transform Mother Nature’s awesome creations into images of mesmerizing symmetry through kaleidoscope photo art.
I take photos that have varying texture, shapes and colors, digitally crop different angles and reassemble the crops together to create a seamless kaleidoscope photo. One photo can create numerous kaleidoscopes because each cut creates a different geometrical pattern. The finished product can create a pattern that is difficult to recognize the original photo or can enhance the subject of the original photo. This is all done freehand! This is not a result of an automatic program. Automatic programs will distort the subject. My process is unique as it allows me to isolate my subject and kaleidoscope everything else around it. Why you ask? Why turn my photography into kaleidoscope designs? Good question....the only explanation I have is this is what I see...it is simply my twisted imagination!
Oh yes one other thing.....if you run across a math teacher from Michigan...please oh please don’t tell him or her what I am doing. He or she might be one of my former teachers. If they knew what I was doing I would not live it down...you see...I HATE MATH! I pouted, cried and whined all through school about math...and what I do is basic geometry. I would never hear the end of “I told you so” or “See I knew if you set your mind to it you would learn math”. Let’s keep this my little secret!
