Woody the Cat is very fond of roaming the desert. As he has gotten older, he seems to prefer hotter climates. He likes to lie in the heat all day long and particularly likes the garage on a summer day. Anyway, recently, he has taken to making trips to the desert. We wouldn't know it except that we've noticed an increase in cat litter. It turns out, Woody has found a deposit of bentonite clay near Hwy 14 about 70 miles from the house. I'm not sure how he's doing 140 miles a day because he's always in sight. I asked him about it and he mumbled something about Ian Tendo which got my interest because Ian is a character in Rick Wayne's, The Minus Faction, Episode 3, Meltdown. I didn't even know Woody could read.

I am surprised that how little this place is known and how little it is promoted by State of Oregon! Utah has the Arches on their car license plates as background, Australia advertise their Red Rock all over the place, in that sense, this place is virtually unknown!!!
It is a very serene, absolutely quiet and pretty place, naturally colored hills are surrounded by high country desert and mountains. It's hard to believe the colors and that they occurred naturally! Really something to behold! On a funny note, this place could be an ad for Valspur Paint or Home Depot! Haha!
Serenity of this place isn’t broken even in the height of the summer tourist season. This place is virtually unknown. There are no people in the vicinity, one or two sporadic visitors. The weather is really nice here, cool and dry, no humidity and thus no sweat! Hikes here are really easy as the hills are not too steep. The wraparound view is pleasing to the eyes, one can see far and wide and doesn't feel all blocked and covered by giant trees as there are few trees here. It’s an arid area and so is the climate! And the really pleasing quietness, so nice that I didn't feel like interrupting the quietness with the sound of my own breath! Yes, really! It is that calm and quiet! Had I known a bit earlier, I would have come prepared and camped two or three nights here. It's a great place for camping and hiking. Entry is free and abundant places to camp along the road. There is also a Park Ranger Station and Rest Room Facilities near the entrance. This is the drier part of Oregon, on the east side of the Cascades Mountain Range. It is high country desert and Rattlesnake country! So be careful and watch your step! I will definitely come back here, as many times as possible, although currently I am in the East Coast.

Beautiful Granite Falls in the Shoalhaven region part of the Morton National Park, New South Wales . Sadly there wasn't much water this day even after a month of good rainfalls. Still the colourful granite rock cliff face more than made up for it and is like a shining Jewel amongst the lush green eucalypt forest

Trent River is located about three kilometers south of Courtenay, BC on Vancouver Island. It is a great walk in August when the river is down and you can walk the river bed without getting your feet wet. The bank is made of marine shale. It is a magical place that is 80 million years old. It is has numerous crystal clear swimming holes and if you are a fossil hunter it is a great place to spend an afternoon banging rocks and looking for a treasure of years past.

Hierve Al Agua
Hierve el Agua (Spanish for "the water boils") is set of natural rock formations in the Mexican state of Oaxaca that resemble cascades of water. The site is located about 70 km east of Oaxaca city, past Mitla, in the municipality of San Lorenzo Albarradas, with a narrow, winding unpaved road leading to the site. The site consists of two rock shelves or cliffs which rise between fifty and ninety metres from the valley below, from which extend nearly white rock formations which look like waterfalls. These formations are created by fresh water springs, whose water is over-saturated with calcium carbonate and other minerals. As the water scurries over the cliffs, the excess minerals are deposited, much in the same manner that stalactites are formed in caves. One of the cliffs, called the "cascada chica" (small waterfall) or the Amphitheatre, contains two large artificial pools for swimming as well as a number of small natural pools. One of the artificial pools is very near the edge of the cliff.

About Yeh Liu
Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan in the town of Wanli between Taipei and Keelung.
The cape, known by geologists as the Yehliu Promontory, forms part of the Taliao Miocene Formation. It stretches approximately 1,700 meters into the ocean and was formed as geological forces pushed Datun Mountain out of the sea.
A distinctive feature of the cape is the hoodoo stones that dot its surface. These shapes can be viewed at the Yeliu Geopark operated by the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration. A number of rock formations have been given imaginative names based on their shapes. The most well-known is the "The Queen's Head", an iconic image in Taiwan and an unofficial emblem for the town of Wanli. Other formations include "The Fairy Shoe", "The Bee Hive", "The Ginger Rocks" and "The Sea Candles."

For a day trip, you are more comfy and convenient by staying in a larger town, which would be Bend, OR, about 75 miles away from Painted Hills. Mitchell, OR, is the closest town/village (pop. about 140), 9 miles away. Mitchell has 2 motels, very basic but exudes with charm and down home hospitality. They have internet and Satellite TV. But there is NO cell phone reception/signal in this area, so bring along a real GPS!!! Your cell phone's cell tower triangulated GPS service won't work here. Two stores of Mitchell close early (country/village/small town hours) and so does the only Gas station. Get your gas tank of your vehicle filled before you venture in. If you, however, make the effort to come here and visit, trust me, it will be worthwhile and something that you will cherish forever.
I was fortunate enough to spend a week this summer with my aunt exploring the sights in South Dakota. We had a lovely time: great weather, company, and food!
These first 21 pictures were taken in The Badlands National Park. It was a gorgeous place filled with beautiful colors and stunning, vistas. I can't tell you the how much I loved this place. I would have spent the whole vacation there if I could have. It was truly spectacular.
The vegetation makes up the rain forest clinging to the walls of the sinkhole.
I guess you could say: It's Fern-Tastic.

This is a view of the surrounding Bohol countryside, taken from roughly mid- way up the steps leading to the observation point. You can see at the distance the almost identical cone- shaped hills that make up the Chocolate HIlls landscape. There are nearly 1,300 hills in all, with some estimates putting the number of even 1,750+. (Bohol- Tagbilaran, Philippines, May 2013)

From this angle, the peak nearest camera was nice and green. A tourist nearly stuck her hand into the frame just as I was clicking the shutter. While I was initially cursing my luck, it did turn out quite well in the end, I think the effect is good, pointing to the hills in the distance and all! (Bohol- Tagbilaran, Philippines, May 2013)

It is amazing how minerals and volcanic ashes that were deposited 33 million years ago here have reacted with the elements over time, producing some amazing colors on the ground! Yes, I have double checked, what you are seeing in your screen is accurate depiction of the colors on the hills! Quite Amazing!
I am surprised that how little this place is known and how little it is promoted by State of Oregon! Utah has the Arches on their car license plates as background, Australia advertise their Red Rock all over the place, in that sense, this place is virtually unknown!!!
It is a very serene, absolutely quiet and pretty place, naturally colored hills are surrounded by high country desert and mountains. It's hard to believe the colors and that they occurred naturally! Really something to behold! On a funny note, this place could be an ad for Valspur Paint or Home Depot! Haha!
Serenity of this place isn’t broken even in the height of the summer tourist season. This place is virtually unknown. There are no people in the vicinity, one or two sporadic visitors. The weather is really nice here, cool and dry, no humidity and thus no sweat! Hikes here are really easy as the hills are not too steep. The wraparound view is pleasing to the eyes, one can see far and wide and doesn't feel all blocked and covered by giant trees as there are few trees here. It’s an arid area and so is the climate! And the really pleasing quietness, so nice that I didn't feel like interrupting the quietness with the sound of my own breath! Yes, really! It is that calm and quiet! Had I known a bit earlier, I would have come prepared and camped two or three nights here. It's a great place for camping and hiking. Entry is free and abundant places to camp along the road. There is also a Park Ranger Station and Rest Room Facilities near the entrance. This is the drier part of Oregon, on the east side of the Cascades Mountain Range. It is high country desert and Rattlesnake country! So be careful and watch your step! I will definitely come back here, as many times as possible, although currently I am in the East Coast.

La gran cascada del Tenes, que se puede rocote por detrás gracias a un húmedo y fresco pasillo interior, ofrece el espectáculo del agua y las panorámicas más atractivas. Cuando el Tenes llega al valle, y se une al rÃo Rossinyol, que primero salta sobre la iglesia y llena el estanque.
