It is amazing how minerals and volcanic ashes that were deposited 33 million years ago here have reacted with the elements over time, producing some amazing colors on the ground! Yes, I have double checked, what you are seeing in your screen is accurate depiction of the colors on the hills! Quite Amazing!
I am surprised that how little this place is known and how little it is promoted by State of Oregon! Utah has the Arches on their car license plates as background, Australia advertise their Red Rock all over the place, in that sense, this place is virtually unknown!!!
It is a very serene, absolutely quiet and pretty place, naturally colored hills are surrounded by high country desert and mountains. It's hard to believe the colors and that they occurred naturally! Really something to behold! On a funny note, this place could be an ad for Valspur Paint or Home Depot! Haha!
Serenity of this place isn’t broken even in the height of the summer tourist season. This place is virtually unknown. There are no people in the vicinity, one or two sporadic visitors. The weather is really nice here, cool and dry, no humidity and thus no sweat! Hikes here are really easy as the hills are not too steep. The wraparound view is pleasing to the eyes, one can see far and wide and doesn't feel all blocked and covered by giant trees as there are few trees here. It’s an arid area and so is the climate! And the really pleasing quietness, so nice that I didn't feel like interrupting the quietness with the sound of my own breath! Yes, really! It is that calm and quiet! Had I known a bit earlier, I would have come prepared and camped two or three nights here. It's a great place for camping and hiking. Entry is free and abundant places to camp along the road. There is also a Park Ranger Station and Rest Room Facilities near the entrance. This is the drier part of Oregon, on the east side of the Cascades Mountain Range. It is high country desert and Rattlesnake country! So be careful and watch your step! I will definitely come back here, as many times as possible, although currently I am in the East Coast.

If you, however, make the effort to come here and visit, trust me, it will be worthwhile and something that you will cherish forever.
Trent River is located about three kilometers south of Courtenay, BC on Vancouver Island. It is a great walk in August when the river is down and you can walk the river bed without getting your feet wet. The bank is made of marine shale. It is a magical place that is 80 million years old. It is has numerous crystal clear swimming holes and if you are a fossil hunter it is a great place to spend an afternoon banging rocks and looking for a treasure of years past.
I totally admit to dropping this night sky onto my silhouette of the hoodoos. The silhouette came out great but the sky was totally lackluster.
I had seen a similar firearms- free zone photograph on another website from another location in the Philippines and had dismissed it at that time as some kind of a joke. But it is apparently serious business, as this sign placed at the base of the steps shows. (Bohol- Tagbilaran, Philippines, May 2013)

Just a few steps into the climb, you come across this pretty comprehensive and informative sign about the geological formation that is the Chocolate Hills. Unfortunately, the lettering is too small,and hence a little uncomfortable to read from the distance. Yes, the sign is some feet away from the steps. This tree is growing from the top of a formation across the river from Zion Lodge. It is 1600 feet above the river.

La iglesia de Sant Joan de Fà bregues y su castillo están documentados desde el año 968. Hacia el siglo XII surgió el pueblo de Rupit habitado por familias nobles. En 1878, la iglesia de Rupit dejó de depender de Sant Joan de Fà bregues y en 1959 el municipio pasó a llamarse Rupit. En 1977 se unieron los municipios de Rupit y Pruit.

The church of Sant Joan de FÃ bregues and its castle are documented from the year 968. The church, which was the main church of the municipality, is located about 3 km from the castle. In the 12th century, the town grew around the castle of Rupit. Noble families built a new church, Sant Miquel, where they had built their houses. This church now is the parish church.
Nowadays Rupit is best known as a tourist town, because of its medieval appearance, stone houses and streets made of natural rock. There are also interesting walks and sightseeing around the village and nearby cliffs.
The "Riera de Rupit" is a small river running through Rupit and forms the Sallent waterfall when it meets the cliffs. There is a hanging bridge which provides access the center of the village.
About Yeh Liu
Yehliu is a cape on the north coast of Taiwan in the town of Wanli between Taipei and Keelung.
The cape, known by geologists as the Yehliu Promontory, forms part of the Taliao Miocene Formation. It stretches approximately 1,700 meters into the ocean and was formed as geological forces pushed Datun Mountain out of the sea.
A distinctive feature of the cape is the hoodoo stones that dot its surface. These shapes can be viewed at the Yeliu Geopark operated by the North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Administration. A number of rock formations have been given imaginative names based on their shapes. The most well-known is the "The Queen's Head", an iconic image in Taiwan and an unofficial emblem for the town of Wanli. Other formations include "The Fairy Shoe", "The Bee Hive", "The Ginger Rocks" and "The Sea Candles."

Yes, I have double checked, what you are seeing in your screen is accurate depiction of the colors on the hills! Quite Amazing!
I am surprised that how little this place is known and how little it is promoted by State of Oregon! Utah has the Arches on their car license plates as background, Australia advertise their Red Rock all over the place, in that sense, this place is virtually unknown!!!
It is a very serene, absolutely quiet and pretty place, naturally colored hills are surrounded by high country desert and mountains. It's hard to believe the colors and that they occurred naturally! Really something to behold! On a funny note, this place could be an ad for Valspur Paint or Home Depot! Haha!
Serenity of this place isn’t broken even in the height of the summer tourist season. This place is virtually unknown. There are no people in the vicinity, one or two sporadic visitors. The road trip continued through the Norwegian fjords with a trip up past frozen lakes and rivers, over a partially thawed mountain pass, and then back down to the sea.

Trent River is located about three kilometers south of Courtenay, BC on Vancouver Island. It is a great walk in August when the river is down and you can walk the river bed without getting your feet wet. The bank is made of marine shale. It is a magical place that is 80 million years old. It is has numerous crystal clear swimming holes and if you are a fossil hunter it is a great place to spend an afternoon banging rocks and looking for a treasure of years past.

Woody the Cat is very fond of roaming the desert. As he has gotten older, he seems to prefer hotter climates. He likes to lie in the heat all day long and particularly likes the garage on a summer day. Anyway, recently, he has taken to making trips to the desert. We wouldn't know it except that we've noticed an increase in cat litter. It turns out, Woody has found a deposit of bentonite clay near Hwy 14 about 70 miles from the house. I'm not sure how he's doing 140 miles a day because he's always in sight. I asked him about it and he mumbled something about Ian Tendo which got my interest because Ian is a character in Rick Wayne's, The Minus Faction, Episode 3, Meltdown. I didn't even know Woody could read.
