Our event was hosted by Roundhouse, a social innovation hub and co-working space, in Allard Hall downtown. Roundhouse has only just launched their space and we were honoured to be a part of their opening celebration.

June's speaker was the vivacious force known better as Lourdes the Merry Virgin (Jonathan Busch), a beloved local drag queen.

I have been very fortunate in holidaying in a gorgeous chocolate box thatched cottage in deepest Suffolk for the last week.

Three friends and i have been allowed to stay in the second home of a most generous couple and as a gift I was asked to make a thank you card for our hosts.

I made four!

I also created a stitched paper pod for holding lavender which now adorns the massive chimney breast.

I do hope our hosts like these gifts which use flowers from their amazing garden.

Robert Kaufman generously donated a charm pack for each member of participating chapters in the Modern Quilt Guild to use for a challenge project of our choosing.

The NOVA Modern Quilt Guild selected the Bright palate (http://www.robertkaufman.com/pre-cut/konareg_cotton_solids_bright_palette1/) to work with and each of us made one or more mini quilts (29"x29" to 45"x45"). The members were allowed to add fabric from their stash as long as the charms remained the stars of the show. The quilts will be donated to the INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital NICU.

On Saturday, 3 February 2018 Veronica-Clibborn Dyer generously invited RAS members to visit her beautiful garden and adjacent buildings with Kwun Yam and Shing Wong Temples and a small museum of local field and lifestyle artifacts including deity ceramics.

In 1996, Veronica Clibborn-Dyer and her late husband Ron, formerly a HK policeman, discovered a run-down property in the hills above Nam Chung in HK’s far north-east, overlooking Starling Inlet. Some good detective work and the lucky find of a scrap of paper with a UK phone number on it enabled them to finally identify the owner and background of the building and eventually an arrangement was established whereby they became live-in caretakers of the property. This involved years of hard labour by Ron and Veronica, clearing out a lot of old rubbish, since the place had been a refuge for women, mostly retired amahs who had nowhere else to go once their working lives were over. As well as cleaning up the property to make a home and conserve the place, Veronica and Ron created the most wonderful garden in the terraced grounds. With its beauty and charm, plus its position amid some of HK’s most stunning scenery, their Temple of Peace and Tranquility is truly a special and unique place.

At the top of the nearby hill is a pavillion dedicated to the memory of Sir Edward Youde, Governor of Hong Kong from 198 to 1986. From this viewing point there are views of Sha Tau Kok, Starling Inlet and the Yantian district of Shenzhen in mainland China.

Southrop is an attractive Cotswold village not far from Lechlade, The Norman church of St Peter is next to Southrop Manor sitting comfortably amongst the converted buildings of the estate farm. The nave walls show large ares of herringbone masonry and must be of early date and a C14 porch protects a Norman doorway. The C13 chancel was added in the Early English style and in the early C14 a south transept was built which has an earlier mass dial preserved in the south wall and the date of a restoration 1747. Waller & Son restored the church 1895-6 replacing the bellcote and adding several Neo-Norman windows. A squint once used from the rood survives and two modern squint were added.

The great treasure of the church is the Norman font c1180. Its highly sophisticated sculptural form suggests French influence, figures are framed in trefoiled arcading with castles in the spandrels. To the east stands Moses with the tables of law flanked by Ecclesia with chalice and pennoned cross and a blindfolded Synagogue with a broken staff. The remaining niches show armoured Virtues subduing Vices. The Virtues names are incised above the figures while the Vice's names are written in mirror writing, Modestia conquers Ebrietas (excess), Paciencia attacks Ira (wrath), Largitas (generosity) suppresses Avaricia, Temperancia over Luxuria and Misericordia (pity) over Invidia (envy).

Our generosity may not be recognized by anyone other than God. Yet when we give freely, we not only meet the needs of those around us but we also experience the joy God intends for us in providing for others. Help us, Lord, to have open eyes and open hands to supply the needs of those You place in our paths!...Read more at dailydevotionalz.wordpress.com/2019/05/30/here-for-you-de...
