On August 6, 2015, some of Houston’s most generous philanthropists gathered for the second annual University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Santa Fe reception. The event was hosted by attorney and past Development Board Chairman Julius Glickman and his wife Suzan at the exclusive Club at Las Campanas in Santa Fe, N.M.

Approximately 60 guests turned out to enjoy the beautiful New Mexico landscape and to hear the Director of the Center for Autoimmunity and Immunobiology at UTHealth, Dr. John Reveille. Reveille — a world-renowned physician and scientist in rheumatology — speak on living with arthritis and other autoimmune illnesses in a seminar titled “When Your Body Turns Against You.”

"Lb. [Dear] Paula, I hereby send you the photograph of the downed airplane, in the foreground you can see the dead pilot, an English captain.

On the left is the aircraft's machine gun. The engine of the aircraft had penetrated 40 cm into the ground. You can imagine the force with which the plane hit the ground.

Best wishes for today from your friend Willi. Somme 1916."

On the front it reads.

"The English airplane shot down by Lieutenant Wintgens x, holder of the order "Pour le merite".

I get two packets of shaving cream, a hairbrush, toothbrush & paste, deodorant (not antiperspirant...) a razor, and a "vanity pack"... I think they should have included underwear, that's what I really needed.

"Noble and generous Compton Tichborne esquire whose everlasting memorye perpetualy liveth in ye gratefull hearts of his (by him restored) family" At a guess he saved the estates from sequestration during the Commonwealth. He dyed March 17th 1657. Son of Elizabeth (Compton) www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/685409293/ who died giving birth to him 1623 and Sir Benjamin Tichborne. Grandson of Bridget and John Compton www.flickr.com/photos/52219527@N00/685408887/ whose estate he inherited. On Compton's death the estate passed to his cousin, son of his uncle Francis Tichborne the brother of his father

Compton probably erected this monument to himself at the time he erected the one to his grandparents as they are in the same style and materials

The scallop was generous, nicely carmelized on top, but a little cold on the bottm. I love my scallops under-done, but this was a little too raw. The creamed cabbage was not that great - it was cold, slimy and rather oily.

A big thank you to the participants and generous donors of the first ESCP Europe Fundraising Gala in London last week. An impressive £220,000 was raised which will contribute greatly to the ESCP Europe Scholarship Programme.

Over 100 guests gathered at the Four Seasons Park Lane for a wonderful evening sponsored by Ondra Partners and New End Associates. A cocktail reception was offered, serving champagne premier cru Frerejean Freres, and was followed by a gourmet autumn dinner.

The auction, led by Adrian Biddell, spurred great interest for the wonderful lots donated by Pierre Guénant (72), Olivia de Posson (06), Jean-Pierre Raffarin (72), Christian Marti (93), and W. Salamoon & Sons.

Around 15 alumni pledged their support to the ESCP Europe Scholarship Programme for the equivalent of eight years of study or a total amount of £120,000.

This unprecedented mobilisation demonstrates the unity and dynamism of the ESCP Europe alumni network. It also shows its commitment to support the School's growing momentum, forging a path to become the number one business school in Europe with a truly global reach.

On behalf of the scholarship students and all the ESCP Europe community, thank you!

Throughout his ministry, Jesus preached on the importance of caring for people living on the margins of society. Responding to a need in their local community, the grant-receiving congregation of St. Matthew’s Presbyterian Church in Grand Falls-Windsor, N.L. has constructed a ‘community clothesline’ in their sanctuary. At each of their monthly services, the congregation hangs new adult socks, hats, mitts, scarves and underclothes on the clothesline, which are later distributed by the Salvation Army’s Community and Family Services division. At each service, the clothesline cannot hold all of the items due to the generosity of its church members, and extra bins must be set up to collect all of the donations.

On Saturday, 3 February 2018 Veronica-Clibborn Dyer generously invited RAS members to visit her beautiful garden and adjacent buildings with Kwun Yam and Shing Wong Temples and a small museum of local field and lifestyle artifacts including deity ceramics.

In 1996, Veronica Clibborn-Dyer and her late husband Ron, formerly a HK policeman, discovered a run-down property in the hills above Nam Chung in HK’s far north-east, overlooking Starling Inlet. Some good detective work and the lucky find of a scrap of paper with a UK phone number on it enabled them to finally identify the owner and background of the building and eventually an arrangement was established whereby they became live-in caretakers of the property. This involved years of hard labour by Ron and Veronica, clearing out a lot of old rubbish, since the place had been a refuge for women, mostly retired amahs who had nowhere else to go once their working lives were over. As well as cleaning up the property to make a home and conserve the place, Veronica and Ron created the most wonderful garden in the terraced grounds. With its beauty and charm, plus its position amid some of HK’s most stunning scenery, their Temple of Peace and Tranquility is truly a special and unique place.

At the top of the nearby hill is a pavillion dedicated to the memory of Sir Edward Youde, Governor of Hong Kong from 198 to 1986. From this viewing point there are views of Sha Tau Kok, Starling Inlet and the Yantian district of Shenzhen in mainland China.

Robert Kaufman generously donated a charm pack for each member of participating chapters in the Modern Quilt Guild to use for a challenge project of our choosing.

The NOVA Modern Quilt Guild selected the Bright palate (http://www.robertkaufman.com/pre-cut/konareg_cotton_solids_bright_palette1/) to work with and each of us made one or more mini quilts (29"x29" to 45"x45"). The members were allowed to add fabric from their stash as long as the charms remained the stars of the show. The quilts will be donated to the INOVA Fairfax Children's Hospital NICU.
