Historical marker for Cornelius Heeney on St. Paul's Catholic Church in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Heeney, who was a business partner of John Jacob Astor, donated the land for the church and is buried in its back yard.

There is a big error in this plaque. I shall leave that to the curious viewer to figure out on their own.

Make sure you generously S&P your tofu slices - they don't taste like much on their own, so you have to do the work!

Yes, the much loved, or much hated tofu. I had never worked with this beastie before, so I figured it was time for a go! I followed the instructions at the link below for preparation, and I am VERY pleased with the results (though no sauce next time... I like it plain).

Snowball Express XI was a great success as we welcomed nearly 1800 children and families of our fallen military heroes to Dallas for a week full of activities!

Beginning with the arrival of our generously donated charter flights by presenting sponsor American Airlines with all volunteer flight crews from all over the country, the families were taken by Greyhound motor coach and Patriot Guard escort to our host hotel, the Hilton Anatole Dallas. The hotel was filled with activities in the Teen and children lounges, and in the Gallo family lounge for the adults.

Day one began with our police and patriot guard escort to Fort Worth, completely shutting down highway 30 with a 48 school bus precession. Firefighters from Arlington lined the overpasses to wave and salute our families!

After arriving in Fort Worth, the annual Walk of Gratitude was held at the famous Fort Worth Stock Yards. The families were then treated to the Pawnee Bill Wild West Show at the Cowtown Coliseum. From there our families were taken to the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base for a private concert by Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band in a Hangar on base. Gary put on a great show as always for the families and then handed out teddy bears for all the children. Food was provided by Texas Land and Cattle, and prepared with the help of Chef Robert Irvine.

Day 2 included a fun day at four separate game centers around DFW. That evening everyone enjoyed a great dinner and entertainment at Medieval Times Show & Dinner.

The third day included our annual Talent Showcase presented by the Texas Music Project, followed by another amazing closing show by our Chief Fun Officer, David Hira.

Thank you to all of our sponsors and volunteers who help make this amazing week of tributes possible for these special families who have sacrificed so much for our nation. Please visit www.snowballexpress.org to see how you can help sponsor of volunteer for the 2017 event!

The Long Island Zoological Society in Manorville New York, is a not-for-profit organization, funded entirely by your visits to our park and generous donations. Our park is open to the public as the Animal Farm Petting Zoo. Extremely generous, friendly staff. White water rafting, hiking, horse back riding available. Delicious food. Comfortable, relaxing, fun accommodations in the middle of the jungle -- my favorite destination in Costa Rica!

Organised by the local Co-op store, their customers have donated all that money to Friends of Cathja, an immensely worthwhile charity. I only found out about them recently and am now redoing their website, live from 11 Dec 18 (www.cathja.org), doing some photography etc. The lady is an NHS anaesthetist and trustee of Cathja.

Generous queen sized quilt for our bedroom. It is adapted from Julie Popa's pattern in Fons and Porter, March/April 2008.

In generously sponsering me (see link at end) Bitrots use of the term 'tub of lard' reminded me of this gem I saw in the local Polish shop. The shopkeep has always been a bit funny with me taking shots of tinned goods since I zoomed in too closeback in 2006 and set a rather impressive display of Campbells Tinned Soups tumbling to to floor, therefore I had to buy it.

Crumpets anyone?

This generously sized, luxurious shawl is an exquisite way to add warmth and drama to any outfit. The circular flower motifs that form the back are worked in rows and are joined to adjacent motifs as they are worked. Then stitches for the garter-stitch sides are picked up along the sides of the back panel and worked as large triangles simultaneously with a lacy edging. Wear this triangular shawl pinned, tied, or wrapped in the traditional methods, or lace the side triangles through the edges of the flower motifs on the opposite sides for a secure wrap that allows the edging to cascade down the front in beautiful drapes.

By the time the Parade started by 2pm, the sprinkles of rain had mostly stopped and held off through the event. The Parade was generously sponsored by Robert Weed. Three local mounted horsemen began the parade carrying the U.S.A. and Indiana State flags. Floats and Vehicles featured the 2018 Homecoming Court, St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church, Bristol Lions Club, The Elkhart County G.O.P., Bristol Little League, New Life Christian Church, Satellite Industries, and the Peace Corps. Bristol Citizen of the Year, Ben Evans, and his family rode in Clint Yeager’s carriage. The Elkhart High School band marched and played their school song along the parade route. Other local groups and businesses like Hardings, Raber Golf Course, the Bristol High School Alumni Association, BAM Tree Service, P.L. Custom Vehicles, Michiana Jeep Club, Steve’s Gym, The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic (LGAR), Growing Kids Learning Center and some old cars, as well as a number of others also participated. Several groups of walking supporters for local political offices were Jeff Siegel, Whitney Pierle, and Stutzman for State Representative.

The seats are generous, but they aren't actually that huge. She's that tiny. And she's not thrilled I'm already taking photos. We haven't even left Chicago yet.

The Shaufler Prize was established in 2021 by one of our generous donors, Paul Anderson, CEO & Principal of Workhouse Media, based in Seattle. Paul’s gift and creation of this national contest is in honor of his late friend, Ed Shaufler, who passed away in 2020. Paul and Ed shared a mutual and deep appreciation for the written word, particularly long-form journalism that tells the stories of underserved people in society. It is in that spirit that this contest, which is now in its second year, provides a national spotlight for the best journalism and journalists advancing the understanding of stories and issues related to communities of color, immigrants and the LGBTQIA+ population.

Capture of Brielle - Procession

April 1st, 1572 - the capture of Brielle by the Watergeuzen. A turning point in the uprising of the Low Countries against Spain in the Eighty Years' War. Militarily the success was minor as the port of Brielle was poorly defended by the Spanish, but it provided the first foothold on land for the rebels at a time when the rebellion was all but crushed, and it offered the sign for a new revolt throughout the Netherlands which led to the formation of the Dutch Republic.

The Watergeuzen were led by William van der Marck, Lord of Lumey, and by two of his captains, Willem Bloys van Treslong and Lenaert Jansz de Graeff. After they were expelled from England by Elizabeth I, they needed a place to shelter their 25 ships. As they sailed towards Brielle, they were surprised to find out that the Spanish garrison led by the Spanish "Iron" Duke of Alva protagonists was poorly defended. On the evening of April 1 in 1572, the 600 men sacked the port, rammed the city gates, defeated the Spanish soldiers and liberated Brielle as the first Dutch city in the Netherlands from de Spanish .

Nowadays a very popular annual UNESCO event with lots of Watergeuzen, Spanish soldiers and medieval dressed people in a city center all dressed up just like then on that historical day.

A big thank you to the participants and generous donors of the first ESCP Europe Fundraising Gala in London last week. An impressive £220,000 was raised which will contribute greatly to the ESCP Europe Scholarship Programme.

Over 100 guests gathered at the Four Seasons Park Lane for a wonderful evening sponsored by Ondra Partners and New End Associates. A cocktail reception was offered, serving champagne premier cru Frerejean Freres, and was followed by a gourmet autumn dinner.

The auction, led by Adrian Biddell, spurred great interest for the wonderful lots donated by Pierre Guénant (72), Olivia de Posson (06), Jean-Pierre Raffarin (72), Christian Marti (93), and W. Salamoon & Sons.

Around 15 alumni pledged their support to the ESCP Europe Scholarship Programme for the equivalent of eight years of study or a total amount of £120,000.

This unprecedented mobilisation demonstrates the unity and dynamism of the ESCP Europe alumni network. It also shows its commitment to support the School's growing momentum, forging a path to become the number one business school in Europe with a truly global reach.

On behalf of the scholarship students and all the ESCP Europe community, thank you!

Benefactors and beneficiaries enjoy celebrating the impact of philanthropy at the annual Generosity & Gratitude Celebration, hosted by the Development Office at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State College of Medicine.

My mother's cousin used to do bookbinding a long time ago, because she doesn't anymore she wanted to give me her material and tools, so generous! And this is only the thread, yarn and tape department there is also a small but complete transportable binding station (very cool! pictures later) and a huge collection of gilding tools (yay!!), paring knives, paper knives not to mention heaps of paper, book cloth and even some leather.

As far as the threads are concerned I am particularly happy with this silk. It's difficult to find this thickness here in the Netherlands and it's perfect for sewing my own headbands!

Generous portion - meagre pea leaves (too much stem- although soft enough to chew -not stringy and "flossy"). Deep garlic flavor.

I recently had an e-mail exchange with the creator of Scout, the application that generates these sets. I suggested that, given the way the Magic Donkey is now moving images in and out of of the Interestingness archives on an almost hourly basis to achieve greater variety and fairness to flickr's growing population, the set generator should include images seen there in the last n days rather than just at the moment of the query Scout makes.

So, the result would be "last seen at #5 @ 3:00am, March 25th, 2006" and then an image would only drop out of your Interestingness archive collection once it had not been seen there for a set period of time. This would accurately show people all of the images they have in the archive cycle, and it is now a cycle rather than a set-in-stone thing.

I think this is a better way to show people what they have in the Interestingness archives, and the creator of Scout agreed. So, look for that change sometime in the future.

The Expo is generously hosted by the State of Qatar and co-organized by the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation and the United Nations Development Programme Regional Bureau for Arab States. In the spirit of the “Delivering as one” approach, it features solution exchange forums led by a number of United Nations specialized agencies, funds and programmes that are active in advancing the South-South cooperation agenda in the Arab States region, including ESCWA, IFAD, ILO, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO and UN-Women.

The main objective of the Expo is to serve as a platform for matching capacities of the solution providers with the needs of the solution seekers, which will potentially lead to practical exchanges of South-South solutions and experiences in the region. It is an opportunity for countries in the Arab States region to share achievements and replicate successes in the context of the production, marketing and transfer of solutions in response to shared development challenges. The three thematic focus areas of the Expo are youth and women’s employment, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and water and food security.
