Our bus was traveling through a small town in Peru when it stopped due to a festival happening in/on the only road through town. Traffic was pretty congested there and it looked as though it may take a while so a few of us hopped out to take a look. Everyone for miles around was there in their best duds. Bright colorful clothing is the norm in Peru. The icing on the cake for me was the confetti in their hair.
As we watched they picked up their statue of the Pope (Papa) and carried him up the hill. I followed as much as I could without getting left behind by my bus. Dia de Papa (Pope's Day), Peru July 2005.

FIRST TIME IN ASCONA!
The young, explosive musicians that make up the Next Generation Brass Band aspire to live up to their name, fusing traditional elements of Dixieland music with rock 'n' roll and hinting at the future sounds percolating on the New Orleans scene. Formed in 2006 at New Orleans' famed McDonogh 35 High School by saxophonist Joshua Phipps, Next Generation soon recruited established trumpeter Eric Gordon and earned its reputation in parades, second-lines, and parties throughout the Crescent City. With a sound similar to the Soul Rebels Brass Band, but inspired but rock acts like Fall Out Boy and Greenday, Next Generation cultivates a very personal style with diverse musical influences. After being featured in the documentary The Sound After the Storm, which won the International Documentary Film Award at the 2009 Zurich Film Festival, the band will be performing for the first time out of the Unites States at JazzAscona 2010.

When television became popular during the early 1950s, many families changed their traditional dining and recreational habits. Instead of eating their meals at a communal dining table, it was not unusual for an entire family to eat in front of the television set. This new TV-centric lifestyle inspired several manufacturers to market a type of folding tray known as a TV tray. Users could unfold the hollow aluminum legs and attach a tray to hold their plates while they watched their favorite television programs in the living room or den.
There is a bit of a "chicken or the egg" controversy surrounding the first introduction of the TV tray, however. Some television historians say the first TV trays were available at least a year before the advent of the frozen TV dinner. The original TV tray was not necessarily marketed as a dinner tray, but more of a catch-all for plates, books, and craft projects a user might need while watching television. When not in service, a TV tray could be folded quickly and stored in an unobtrusive corner of the room.
My grandmother kept her T.V. trays in a place in one of her closets, she would say "Kids go get the T.V. trays and then we excitedly knew it was time to eat (she was an excellent cook).
The T.V. trays were only used outside, inside we ate at the table. I do not remember ever watching T.V. and eating, I do not think my grandparents allowed such activity !
