4. österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz
Die Österreichische Citizen Science Konferenz 2018 fand vom 01.-03. Februar an der Universität Salzburg statt. Organisiert wurde sie von der Universität Salzburg in Kooperation mit „Österreich forscht“, „Schweiz forscht“, „Bürger schaffen Wissen“, dem „Zentrum für Citizen Science“ und dem FWF.
Unter dem Motto „Generation Citizen Science“ lag der Fokus darauf , wie man Menschen für die Methode und für einzelne Projekte begeistern kann.

Jackson’s book is the first narrative history of the neglected but essential period of African American literature between the Harlem Renaissance and the Civil Rights era. This was the epoch of Richard Wright, Gwendolyn Brooks, Ralph Ellison, Lorraine Hansberry, James Baldwin, and many other influential black writers. Jackson examines the political and artistic milieu in which they produced their greatest works. He looks at the tumultuous decades surrounding World War II, restoring the “indignant” quality to a generation of African American writers shaped by Jim Crow segregation, the Great Depression, the growth of American communism, and an international wave of decolonization. He also reveals how artistic collectives in New York, Chicago, and Washington fostered a sense of destiny and belonging among diverse and disenchanted peoples. Jackson is professor of English and African American studies at Emory University. He is the author of “Ralph Ellison: Emergence of Genius” and a forthcoming biography of Chester Himes.

Two pre-school children with their grandmother. Many of the families we met were children with grandparents while their parents worked elsewhere, generally for low wages. Phnom Krom Village on Ton Le Sap Lake, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia - the village is a Suwon Village, a collaborative economic development project between Suwon City, Korea and Cambodia - it includes installation of wells, public toilets, schools, and adult educational projects. Prior to the beginning of this project, the 90% of villagers were without clean water or toilets. Another project, Water for Cambodia www.waterforcambodia.org/ had placed biosand filters throughout the village to further improve sanitation.

I catch this family of 3 made up of 3 generations as they are all enjoying the rare Spring sunlights along the alley walkway outside their home. The original photo was rather over exposed but i manage to salvage some details despite the fact that it is not entire clear.
Relaxing, Generation I style. Listening to an audio book on I phone.
Mind you it is Huckleberry Finn.
Historical favorite for young boys, appreciated through modern technology.
