Dominating the entrance to the temple is the kaminari-mon or "Thunder Gate". This imposing Buddhist structure features a massive paper lantern dramatically painted in vivid red-and-black tones to suggest thunderclouds and lightning. Within the precincts stand a stately five-story pagoda and the main hall, devoted to Kannon Bosatsu.

Bishop's Gate, a sixty unit condominium complex, located at 1715 15th Street NW in the Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C.
The building originally served as a chapel for St Augustine Catholic School. The property was sold in 1979 and converted into condominiums.
The building is designated as a contributing property to the Greater Fourteenth Street Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.
Decorations at the Entrance Gate lighted-up at the River Hongbao 2019 at The Floating Platform @ Marina Bay for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
San Francisco, Golden Gate Bridge after sunset. They say in summer the sun sets right under the bridge. Will have to come back to find out.

This defunct gate with brick pillars once afforded access from a cottage on Garth Road, onto the canal bank. The dead pigeon is an optional extra.

A somewhat different look at the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA.
I drove up to SF the morning after a tech conference in Mountain View and had a few free hours before my flight home out of SFO. I went to take the obligatory tourist photo of the Golden Gate Bridge but it was hazy and the late morning sun wasn't helping much. I took a few uninspired and uninteresting shots (and that's being generous) and just walked around aimlessly for a bit until I came upon this old chain link fence.
More often than not I find it's the shot I never intended to take that I most enjoy after the fact. I wonder if that's an indication of my immaturity as a photographer or just something I'll have to get used to?
Dvarapala (Sanskrit) is a door or gate guardian statue (either human or demonic) in Hinduism and Buddhism. They were traditionally placed outside Hindu or Buddhist temples and other structures to protect the holy places inside. Dvarapala is usually portrayed as a fierce-looking creature. Depending on the size and wealth of the temple, the guardians could be placed singly, in pairs or in larger groups
Here's another shot of Gate 40 at the Daytona Beach International Speedway. The truck in the background drove up as I was taking shots, and the driver kept an eye on me. Must have video surveillance.
I decided to treat this much more artistically, since it was taken in fading light with one of my point and shoots, and the quality was poor. I played around with several filters- advanced HDR, picture HDR, and rainbow, and used vibrance, sharpen, clarity, mascara and eye-brighten tools. I also used airbrush on strong a couple of times. I like the watercolor effect.
Sometimes messed up photos turn out to be my faves, so I rarely delete much. I know that I can use the bad ones to hone my post processing skills and to have fun artistically. Learning to use the new Canon 40D that Don Briggs gave me will force me to improve my photography skills. Between the two, one day I expect to be able to turn out good quality pics that are artistic as well.It isn't just post processing that is a process. Life is the longest process of all.
