For FGR - Goodbye my Love.
Today is the last day of what I have come to know as Flickr Group Roulette. I am so thankful that I came across this group and was able to participate in it's fun. I can understand why they have decided to take it down, and well, since The Rogue Players has started up, I'm not as bummed anymore. This group has helped me with ideas to do for my 365 Days project, and if it wasn't for them, I think I would have quit a while ago. Granted, I'm not as inventive as most of the participants, but seeing all the different ideas has brought a smile to my face for the short time I was a part of the group. I have plans to follow on twitter, facebook, and the new fugger blog, and possibly purchase things from the store when it's up and running. I can't wait to see what goodies are in store, and how the new FGR will progress in the coming months. :)
A little morbid, yes... but this is taken from one of my favourite books: Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers by Mary Roach. Believe it or not, it's a good read, and quite interesting and not really morbid at all. I have always found the human body fascinating, and as I have said previously, I have nearly all my life, wanted to be a forensic pathologist. How the human body works is such an intriguing thing.

Shot for today’s FGR, "I propose a toast to the hat" in "A Clockwork Orange" style*
and I cheated, I had to Photoshop in the eyelash, otherwise I would have needed to make a trip out to buy .... fake eyelashes or whatever you would use (I don’t have any of that stuff despite what others may say!) I tried a dark blue eye pencil (which I "just" happend to have) and that just looked poo, I did briefly flirt with the idea of a permanent black marker...... but that could have been horribly difficult to remove....
Lightroom: crop, export to Photoshop
Photoshop: adjust levels, saturation +15, resize, USM sharpen 150% R0.3, save to JPG.
Strobist: 580EXII @ 1/8 to camera right into shoot through umbrella, full setup here. I really should have used a rim light to catch the back of the rim and cut me away from the background but I only realised that afterwards once I looked at the shots on the PC :(
*If you've never seen the film A Clockwork Orange then you will probably think I am a complete nutter...
and one final thing... this is cropped to 16:9 ratio .... there is still ongoing debate as to Kubrick’s preferred film ratio.... so he may not have approved of my choice....

FGR and TRP were started as frolicking, inspirational groups for those doing a 365 project. Today's flickr group roulette challenge was Super Dork, so I had no choice but to play along. I had this costume lying around from a few Halloweens ago and figured it was perfect for my new alter ego, El Trojan de Oro (aka The Golden Trojan)!
I couldn't decide between this flying photo or the classic "superhero staring off courageously into the distance" photo, but my lovely wife TeeRish helped me settle on this one.

Today's Roulette theme is Words on Skin.
It has been 431 days since I hugged my brother goodbye after his Basic Training Graduation, and he was sent to Iraq. Although I did get to see him for a day in February, it's been far too long since I've truly spent time with him.
It's been a long hard journey, and I'm so very proud of him. I realize he didn't exactly enter the Reserve with the intention to go to Iraq, but he was so brave, though he was so young, only 18. Despite his convictions regarding the war/conflict, he did his job and is finally home.
Two days from now I will finally see him (for the first time since his return from the dreaded desert). So, 431 down, two to go. It will be a Happy Thanksgiving, indeed!
This is pretty neat.

I recently learned that my aunt stands on the toilet seat whenever she uses a public restroom. She's afraid she'll get AIDS if she sits down, and she's too short to squat over it like a normal person. How she avoids getting pee all down her leg I'll never know.
This anecdote is just one of many, many odd ones I could tell about her. She is weird but mostly lovable.

I started with rebecca *'s Witchy Woman but wasn't happy with any of the shots I took and ended up with this... I'm fed up of looking at it to be honest and I don't know if I like it after all the time it took!
Also inspired by clifford sax's seagull texture SarahIU used in her Hitchcockesque shot.
I've always liked Halloween - as my birthday is this week I always used to have fancy dress parties when I was younger. I remember having a black cake covered in jelly creepy crawlies one year. Happy Halloween!

There were lots of shots from the beginning of FGR that I loved but this one really stuck in my mind. I managed to take it at ten to midnight after a night out - hence the crappy lighting and rather inebriated expression.

I started an Alphabet of Life ages ago and never finished. Since FGR picked this group, I'll continue where I left off.
I stopped the Alphabet because this was a difficult letter for me. I originally thought to use Out There, because I have chosen to reveal a wide swath of myself online. Obviously, I choose not to disclose gory details, but those who care to look will find many intimacies about me. Regina Lynn called this Living Out There in her Wired Sex Drive blog.
Today, I am going with Outgoing even though that is largely a fabrication. I am the sort of outgoing person who hates the process of meeting people but when introduced can talk to anyone. I'd be awesome on the cocktail circuit, except that I dislike approaching people I don't know.
Too, I am the sort who can easily talk in front of groups of strangers. I am a favored moderator at conferences because I am fearless when presenting stuff I have no idea about. I have been in plays and musicals. But, Heaven forbid you ask me to karaoke! Even I don't understand that.
By the way, this is my wedding ring. I've been fiddling with it all day, because touching it makes me feel closer to the woman I love. She's been a champ this past week, and I can never forget how fortunate I am.

The rain lashes down, relentless and unforgiving, but there is no time to stop. The game does not yield to the elements; it only grows fiercer. With every pounding step, water splashes from the earth, mixing with mud and sweat. His grip on the ball is ironclad, his face etched with resolve—there is no turning back.

For Flickr Group Roulette and Summer Feelings. This was my first 365 picture taken out in public with tripod and everything. And since I knew I would look like a loony I made Heather come with me! We had more fun than anyone else on the beach. And then we got milkshakes. BEAT THAT!

No school.
Summer haircuts.
The "beach" (in quotes because the ones near us in New England are lame).
Pretending I will get a tan.
Sleeping in.
Driving with my windows down.
Going to NYC with my family! (A tradition now, w00t).

Midway upon the journey of our life

What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,
Which in the very thought renews the fear.
I did take this photo in some dark woods but I had focus issues meaning the only one in focus didn't have many trees in it! I found an old blurry photo of leaves over a pond and it turned out to work as a texture well. I might play with it and upload a version.

I’ve been wanting to do a shot inspired by this song since just after the Music on My Mind challenge (for which I did a naff eighties song) as the next day I was listening to the Cure in the car (much more me!). I’d love to do a whole series based on Cure shots.
I don't generally remember dreams but I do remember someone quoting a statistic about the number of spiders you eat while sleeping - yuk! - so this is my link to nightmares for today's shot...

1. Els.
2. Often too curious for my own good.
3. Currently addicted to toast with honey and A Shot at Love (yes.).
4. Honest and confronting. If I feel bad about something you did or said, I will confront you. I will also tell you when you make me feel good though.
5. A movie lover but I can’t remember them. If I remember a movie months after I saw it, it means it either had a big impact on me, or I saw it again. I love movies by the Coen brothers.
6. The worst cook in the universe. I have no patience for it so I usually end up burning either the food or myself. Ovens plot against me.
7. Chicken shit but I face my fears because I’m a bit of a sadist when it comes to me. :p
8. Overly protective of my food. Taking something off my plate is a good way to lose some fingers. Els doesn’t share food!
9. A fan of Britney Spears and I’m not afraid to admit it. Leave Britney alone! :p
10. Crazy about animals. I’ve had a turtle, two cats, a dog and a hamster. Now my dad doesn’t want any animals in the house anymore (not that that stopped me when I got the hamster :p). When I move, I’m getting a cat. Or two. And when I move to a bigger place, I’m also getting a pug. As a small child, I used to be afraid of animals though. When I was a toddler, there was a dog in our town that looked like a lion. A cat once jumped into the car with me and I screamed my heart out. Then my parents decided to go and get the biggest dog they could find: a Great Dane (my parents are also a bit sadistic when it comes to me :p). She was the sweetest dog in the world. We later on got two cats, and one of them slept between our dog’s legs. I am still beating myself up for not having a picture of that.

13. A big, big fan of travelling and getting to know other cultures. My favourite cities so far are Budapest, Madrid, Paris and Antwerp. Also the countries Egypt and Turkey have a place in my heart. But I want to travel a lot more, to for instance Iceland, South Africa, Australia, Cuba, Peru, China and Japan. I also want to do a road trip across America one day. I’m going to need a lot more time and money for all this travelling though. :D
14. Afraid of heights. A friend once dared me to go into a Ferris wheel, and I did. I also almost died of fear and did not enjoy the view AT ALL. :p Later on in Paris, he dared me again to get on the roof of the tallest building there. I did but I almost fainted on the stairs up on the roof. Everything was turning around.
15. Interested in psychology and sociology, and am quite good at estimating what people are really like.
16. Currently following some photography blogs and inspirational websites, and when I visit them and they haven’t posted anything new, I am actually a little angry with them.
17. I’m very easy going and not easily angry (blogs not taken into consideration :p). But when I do get angry, it’s serious.
18. Imaginative. As a child, I had the biggest imagination, along with a whole bunch of imaginative friends, family members and pets. I dressed up as a robot and took rides with my imaginative flying horse. I found diamonds at the end of rainbows. At one point, my mum became so worried she thought I was crazy. But my grandmother told her I was fine. And now look at me! I’m as normal as a guy watching tv with a sock over his head. Actually, when I don’t know people that well, I’ll probably look like the most normal girl in the world. Boring even.
19. Very rational. But also on the edge of reason.

Today, on Flickr Group Roulette, the group of the day is Booze, Glorious Booze. I do not have a problem with that. At all. I am enjoying a goblet (because a glass just isn't enough) of my favorite wine. I am not a wine connoisseur by any means, and believe most wine tastes of ass, but I do enjoy Riesling. Don't tsk tsk or snicker. It tastes good TO ME. Which is all that matters. Plus, I am pretty tipsy after one goblet. Hurrah! My drink of choice is Saint M Riesling by Chateau Ste. Michelle. My favorite Italian restaurant charges $27.00 per bottle, but I bought it at a liquor store this evening for $12.99. Hurrah once again!

When I go to sleep, I am frequently thinking of my motorcycle. Yesterday, I received the assless chaps I wanted to ride into the winter months. So I thought I'd give you a peek of some upcoming photos, letting you have your own dreams (or nightmares, as the case may be).
