In order to keep track of babies while in hospital these days they get tagged, quite bulky things but necessary! Think these are Ben's little feet - still very wrinkly on day two of his life.
Huge thank you to all who have sent congratulations for the birth of our twin grandchildren - Ben and Norah. Will be adding their introduction photo today - they are so cute, but then I am very biased.

1. I should have brought a thermos instead of clear Nalgene. Hot water is given out liberally.
2. Less meds, I should have brought more, especially sore throat meds.

Some of my favorite Bat-tools from Arkham City. Batman is holding the Remote Electrical Charge(REC), a sort of taser gun that can charge motors and electrify enemies. Robin is holding the Explosive Gel Dispenser. It sprays out a literal explosive gel on weak surfaces, and a press of a button later, the weak surface is gone.

Online sources say this airplane is the first production EA-18G Growler (other names were considered for the electronic warfare Super Hornet, but were rejected, because they were also sexual euphemisms.) Those little gadgets at the front of the underwing pods are windmills generating power for the jammers, apparently.

This gadget projects an image of a green alien onto the wall.
It uses a bright green LED which shines through a thin wooden screen.
The image of the alien ranges in size from about 5in to about 6 or 7ft depending on how far away from the wall you place the unit.
Today the Hereios of the We're Here! group are shooting Boys and Their Toys, and capturing double-gadget is close to the zenith of achievement in this sphere.

Het was vannacht écht koud; als ik ergens 's nachts even wakker wordt (dorst, wat drinken), meld m'n horloge dat het 1.2 graden is...
Ik heb voor vandaag geen wekker gezet; het vroeg opstaan van gister is me niet zo goed bevallen, en daarnaast hoef ik vandaag ook niet zo ver; ik wil tot het 'Arrastre trail camp', 16 mile verderop. Daar is water en ruim voldoende plek om te camperen. Als ik iets na zes uur wakker wordt van de opkomende zon is het nog koud, ik blijf nog even liggen. Tegen de tijd dat ontbijt (wat groter dan normaal, ik begin gedurende de dag meer trek te krijgen) en opruimen is gedaan is het negen uur, tijd om te gaan lopen.
De omgeving is net als gister bos, voornamelijk naaldbomen. Het is niet heel warm, en de bomen geven regelmatig schaduw, wat het lekker wandel-weer maakt. M'n horloge geeft nog een paar keer een zakkende barometer alarm. Als ik op den duur wat hoger zit zie ik een dik wolkendek een dal verderop; dat is meteen ook het lastige aan weer in een omgeving als dit, vaak blijft het hangen achter een berg...
Over gadgets gesproken, sinds Idyllwild heb ik m'n zonnepaneeltje bij me, die had ik in San Diego in de bouncebox gedaan. Het paneel bestaat uit drie delen, opvouwbaar. Ik heb hem nu geheel opgevouwen bovenop m'n tas, dan is 'ie mooi compact, maar ook maar voor 1/3 effectief. Met de zuid-californische zon doet dit in twee dagen een 10Ah batterij opladen, netjes. Toch leuk om nog een klein beetje met techniek te rommelen :)
Rond half zes kom ik aan op de op dat moment nog lege 'Arrastre trail camp'. Als mijn tentje staat en ik aan een picknicktafel bezig ben met avondeten komt Laurin ook aan, kort daarop gevolgd door Hussein en Holly. Ik puzzel tijdens eten op een loopplanning tot Wrightwood en een daarbij horend boodschappenlijstje; ik heb geleerd van Idyllwild, ik wil weten wat ik nodig heb vóór ik Big Bear Lake in ga. Hussein weet wat meer over het weer te vertellen, hij heeft een recente weersverwachting gelezen; voor komende dinsdag en woensdag wordt mogelijk zelfs sneeuw verwacht! Even aankijken hoe dit zich ontwikkeld, misschien toch wat langer in Big Bear Lake blijven? Morgen hopen we meer te weten. Het is vanavond iniedergeval al snel koud.
