I have recently discovered the marvellous taste of fresh home made bread and wanted to be able to cut it evenly.
This guide took about 2 hours to design and make from scrap timber.
With a long bladed bread knife it will cut perfectly even thin to extra thick slices from a fresh loaf that I normally leave to cool for about 2 hours.
The little legs stop it from sliding back on the worktop and the thickness is varied by the number of cardboard spacers under the loaf.
Cost nothing and it works !

A dominant male pronghorn gently rounds up his herd to keep them together for the night in Yellowstone National Park.
The gentleman you see there was a tour guide who told us the story of what happened in that chapel (see the other picture I have of the chapel). The woman you see there was one of our translators.
It was while I was in Mexico that I found out I was pregnant. Since she was the only female translator, she was the one I told that I needed to get a test. She was going to keep it a secret. When I told her, we were in a jeep with four other people, two of whom were women from my church. We started on a conversation about the temperature we like to keep our homes at night. I stated that I liked mine cooler so I could snuggle under the blankets. One of the ladies said that was fine until she had to get up and use the restroom in the middle of the night. I made the comment that I had to use the restroom several times the previous night which was quite unusual for me. The other lady (Libby) said that my body was getting ready for pregnancy. Since not five minutes before I had told my translator my suspicions, I couldn't think of anything to say and neither could she, so we just sort of looked at each other. Libby caught it and said "What...no...really???" After that, they couldn't wait until I got the test to find out.
Interestingly enough, for the past two years they've gone on a mission trip, something like this has happened. The prior year, one of the team members met her husband. Last year, I found out I was pregnant. I think they're all wondering what's going to happen this coming year!
They said it was SIMPLE - it was to to get this far in ten minutes.

We left Marrakech behind us and started the first leg of our road trip in the High Atlas Mountains. Skit has pretty much the only photo we took from that bit in her stream so I will jump ahead to the next stretch- the road of a thousand kasbahs.
Aït Benhaddou was the only location where we accepted a local guide though this was kind of not through choice- we didn't really know what we were doing. We had read so many scare stories about cars being broken into that we handed cash over to the nearest local we could see when we parked. And when Assan (?) started to take us on a tour, we kind of just went along with it and spent the next half hour worried about how much to pay. Still, he didn't actually disappoint in showing us the place and it was somewhat nice to speak to a local. I think I gathered from him that a few people still live here but most abandoned the place to move to the other side of the river. It seemed rational to just start afresh rather than maintain aging buildings though it is very different from the UK where such a thing is not possible.
The Adventure Guides & Princesses program provides fathers and their children the opportunity to spend valuable time together. As part of a larger group, both father and child create unforgettable memories playing games, spending the weekend at an overnight camp, family adventures, and much more.

Guide House - Paradise - Mount Rainier National Park.
The Paradise Guide House was built in 1920 by the Rainier National Park Company, and is the park's only building with a gambrel roof.
"Our Department will repair the Paradise Guide House. This registered National Landmark is a must-stop for mountain climbers before trekking to the summit. Age and neglect have left the building's foundation slumping and crumbling. Just one old stairwell provides fire escape for the three-story structure. I'm happy to say, on behalf of President Bush, help is on the way" -remarks prepared for delivery by Interior Secretary Gale Norton - Mount Rainier National Park - July 25th, 2001. Renovation completed in 2005.
