Today's goodies, 5€ a piece. These GPS modules output hippo format data but they should be configurable to output normal nmea data. I'll have to wait for a couple weeks until I get an antenna to test these out. I ordered a suitable antenna from dealextreme and it's around 6€, so quite cheap GPS system to play with and use in different projects.
Once again it bothers me that my D2H doesn't support GPS tagging (D2Hs does) as it would be a nice project to interface one of these with the camera.
A composite picture showing the various positions of the ball in the minute preceeding 1 p.m. The ball is raised to the top at 1 minute before the mark (it was at midpoint during the last 5 minutes); one of the picture was taken the moment the ball was dropping (compared to the GPS time, it was off by either 1 second or a fraction of a second), and the final one taken 2 seconds after 1 p.m., when the ball had already dropped.

Police are investigating an indecent exposure incident that occurred in downtown Palo Alto on Friday evening, where the suspect followed the adult female victim before exposing himself to her.
On Friday, August 28, 2015, at about 9:53 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call from a woman reporting that she had been the victim of an indecent exposure that had occurred at about 8:30 p.m. in downtown Palo Alto.
The investigation revealed that the victim, a woman in her thirties, had been walking in the 100 block of University Avenue when she first noticed a man was following her. She walked to the City Parking Garage "R" at 528 High Street to get into her car. The man continued following her, but stopped near the stairwell as she entered her car and drove off. The victim drove southbound on High Street and stopped a few blocks away (she could not recall where she was when she stopped) to program her GPS system. She then heard a knock on her closed driver's side window, and looked up to see the suspect standing directly next to her door. He then pulled down his pants and exposed himself.
The victim screamed and started to put her car in gear to leave. The suspect continued to knock on her window and to expose himself. She drove home and called police about 90 minutes later to report the incident.
The victim described the suspect as a white male in his mid-twenties, about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He had medium-length brown hair. The suspect was wearing a light-colored T-shirt and dark-colored shorts. The victim did not see him with a vehicle. The victim met with a police sketch artist on September 1, and the attached sketch was added to this release on September 1 at 3:45 p.m.
Detectives are investigating to see if this case may be connected to any other indecent exposure incidents in Palo Alto or surrounding communities.

I checked out the car before the race, and it had everything he would need to win the "Fedex 400 benefiting Autism Speaks" race at the Dover Speedway here in Delaware. The car's inside came equipped with:
1) a GPS system in case Denny got lost on the track
2) a steering wheel
3) a gas pedal
4) satellite radio
5) a cup holder
6) EZ Pass card for those all those stupid tolls on the Delaware Turnpike
7) a photo of Joe Biden (Vice President of the US who is from Delaware)

After 5 looooooooong days, we finally got there. Delighted that we all made it in one piece, with no major injuries. What a fantastic experience! Now to nurse the blisters........... At this point (according to Craig's GPS system which is accurate to 3 feet) we had walked 107 miles (166 Km) in 5 days. It is truly amazing what the human body can achieve when you push it (eased by many pain killers and a few hip flasks charged with whisky).
You could just tell that we were scraping the barrel for clean clothes by the end. Especially me (second from left)!

It’s Saturday. I made reservations at The Ranch for 1 night. They have take-out foos but no dine-in. I looked at cars to rent but didn’t make a decision. I bought another GPS system from Amazon that I hope will be better than the two I have now. I’m also making Notes on activities to do in Las Vegas.
note width of the wings versus lenght of the spray boom..... exhaustive studies of the flow of the spray has made a smother even spray flow to compensate for propeller torque and the wing tip votices....computer adjusts flow rate as the plane gets faster when it gets lighter while GPS system keeps plane on a straighter run.....

Der Kopf und Hauptaktionär ist ein ehemaliger Minister der sich vor nichts schämt. Korruption und Intrigen sind da an der Tagesordnung. Auch die Werkstatt ist nicht besonders vertrauenswürdig. Die Instandsetzung eines Unfall MAN TGX mit Auffahrunfall dauerte über 4 Monate da machen die 22€ Stundenlohn nicht viel aus.

Did as much administrative stuff as I could manage on a lazy Sunday for the Reni shoot I'm doing on Tuesday and Wednesday. Sent a few emails, tried to call a few locations—most were closed. Tomorrow we go to Abracadabra to rent a marching band uniform.
Went for a run around the Reservoir (twice). Realized midway through that it was the Puerto Rican Day Parade that was causing all the pedestrian traffic. Came back and grabbed Movie and we went for a long walk.
I took a few pictures of our adventure on my shitty backup phone (Movie rolling around in the grass, the NYPD equestrian unit setting up camp in Cherry Hill for the parade), but—of course—I couldn't get it to send to any email accounts. I also pre-ordered the iPhone 3GS today, and will be on line Friday morning.
As I said to Marco on Facebook, I've been experiencing phantom limb pains from my missing iPhone all day.
Had a really nice dinner with Bernard, Hetty and David at B.West Cafe. We showed them the new apartment. Bernard seemed interested in helping out with Love Is Red, and I've been having a little renaissance in my enthusiasm for the project—my passion never left, but my hopefulness for financing the project waned with the economy. I'm realizing that maybe it doesn't matter. Maybe I need to follow my heart on this one.
I just hope my heart has a good GPS system.

My GPS system insisted this was Main Street, Troy, MI, even though the street signs say it's Livernois. Maps bear the name Main Street, the actual street does not. Troy itself is one of those sprawling in all directions kind of towns that started as a point on a plot and mushroomed from there without any real civic planning. It has malls and busy corners and really good schools but no downtown indentity.
I just got to get me a GPS system I'm so tired of getting lost. Lost does have its bright side though.

A GPS system picking up electric wave from navstar satellites 20000km mid-air, and it can navigate us to many places. This cycling GPS device navigating to Jurassic stratum that was made about 150Ma (mega annum=million year) before in this photograph. Colored background is a geologic map which I had translated from map of Geological Survey of Japan, AIST to garmin .IMG file by using mapwel software. Cycling route is shown as thick pink line from small black triangle that shows where I am at the moment. And the map tells that I’m in the Cretaceous stratum which was made about 100Ma before also. Thick black line shows fault, and thin black line means geologic boundaries. I love geological map showing not only scale of space but time too. It never makes me weary.
Across a lot of boundaries that was caused by universal time and many precinct to get there, and it took over 150km to a Jurassic stratum. The distance is not easy for me by bike of course. But, it is not too far if I can get to a dinosaur’s bone that may still sleeps in this planet.

Businessman Norman Surplus from Larne, Northern Ireland. He is setting off today, March 22nd 2010, on a World Record Attempt to fly around the world in an autogyro. He expects to take about 4 months, travelling approx 80-90mph over 27,000 miles. He'll be on his own in an open cockpit, using two GPS systems. He admits he learned about Autogyros reading the same Blue Peter Annual as me in the 1970's!
For Autogyro, think James Bond in "Little Nellie" in "You Only Live Twice", but without the armament. Norman is a fascinating guy and it was a pleasure to meet him. More details here

The osprey have been back here for about a week, and they have been busy rebuilding this nest. The winds of the past winter left this nest, on a platform on the east side of Cottage Grove Lake, completely bare.
Osprey are amazing birds. They mate for life, and when at the beginning of fall, they leave at different times for separate wintering locations. When spring is upon us, they both return to the site of the previous years nest ... they have amazing navigation skills, they must have a built-in GPS system.
